Well, if you want some construcitive critisism:
The gun looks cool but it's still mostly a Tau Melta. You should do something about the middle and/or the back part of the gun. The tank on the downside looks good, but it still screams Greatet Good to me. A few wires from the gun to his back pakc would be a good start. Maybe a omnissia oder Chaos icon to cover it up.

Just went through this thread and I utterly LOVE it. It's a great idea with tons of cool conversions, and I say Kudos to you for it!

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Outstanding all around. You've really done a great job at putting together varied but recognizable groups of figures. Looking forward to seeing the storm girlz as well - and the Chobbits are great! Their proportions are much better than one would expect.

Ok, I disappeared for nearly 2 months. Sorry about that. Some real world stuff with work and other bits has really left me drained, and I did very little painting or building. What I did do is as follows:

Baddies: The mek got some paint, along with Boss Snikrot and the remaining burna kommando:

They are still pretty far from done, with the burna being closest and the mek being pretty far. I would like to note that the angle of the camera makes Snikky's hand look a bit bigger than it actually is, but not a lot. I do wish I could put him on a 40mm base though like the mek. He looks kind of silly on the little one there.

Earlier in my absence I was working on this, which burned me out on pink so hard I haven't gotten back to her, but she is about 80% done. 80% done, and completely unrelated to this army...

A very nice model to put together and paint, and very good customer service (I had some problems with missing bits and they fixed it quickly.) Soda Pop Minis are good folks with nice products.

Finally, perhaps it was because I was lacking about half a roof on my house, I felt compelled to paint up my Fortress of Redemption, which is nearly large enough to house my two cats. Very WIP so far, and reminding me why I hate painting buildings and large vehicles, but coming along.

So, micro update. I might still add some more cables to the ad-mek guy, but otherwise I think he just needs more paint.

DarkMech is looking nice, though I'm most looking forward to seeing Snik further along and from better angles. Is his one arm supposed to be some grafted on mutie arm? Hence the odd flesh tone in this shot?

Nice progress on the FoR, but holy crap that soda pop mini is kicking butt! Beautiful bright colors against your trademark grimdark basing scheme = win

Though I do want to put a plasma round through that bunny's idiot grin and jolly little dance

Salvage: Glad you like the mek and all. I am hoping the paint is camoflaging the sourches of bits some.

As per request, here are some more angles, both of Snik and the Mek.

Snikky's arm is supposed to be being slowly possessed by a Khornate demon, his flesh becoming more and more corrupted and... bloodlettery... with every kill. I was kind of thinking of Princess Monoke, where Ashitaka's arm gets possessed by some manner of hate demon and gets more scarred yet powerful as he gets angry and time passes. That, and the Police were probably playing on the radio...

Every corpse you make
Every head you take
Every bone you break
Every skin you flay
I'm possessin you

Yes... I know... I will go report to my regimental commisar for punishment.

Also yes, 1000 times yes, that Soda Pop mini is great. A little intimidating, especially painting SO MANY LAYERS of a light color, but the model is not overly detailed, yet very finely detailed, so it isn't too nuts but still gives great results. It is pretty exhausting though, and Mayla herself is so finely detailed I have to wait till I get just enough sleep and am in just the right state of mind to really do her justice, otherwise I make more mistakes than progress. Still, LOVE the model, and I might pick up the other two as painting pieces.

Here's more pics of that.

I am glad you like the mix of pretty pink glitter princess and grimdark. I was thinking that the very delicate "Ew I don't want to touch this anymore than I need to" look of the right hand just supporting weight with one finger reminded me so much of Angela in a similar position that it worked out nicely. Sort of the robot trying to avoid getting dirty if at all possible, whether the driver cares or not.

You know given this is a Chaos army I'd be tempted to use her as a freaky scary Chaos Dreadnaught. The colours just make me think Daemon Engine of Slaanesh......

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Hehe that is a little tempting, running her as a Deff Dread in the force, or maybe Ghazzy. My worry though is that it is a fairly delicate model, with all the little flanges and the limbs themslelves being fairly delicately attached. I really think she is just going to be a show piece, maybe entered into a contest but otherwise living in a glass box.

<3 for that last shot man, like whoa

Cheers on all the other angles, caught some stuff I had missed on the mech (helpy arm snaking around the side!) and confirmed that Snikky is about as strange a mongoloid killer as I remembered him being. Not that that's a bad thing, nicely justified by your fluff

Back to Mayla, she really makes me want to commit to the Infinity force I've been kicking around for a solid year now. But I think I'm doing Mordheim this summer instead, so a bunch of orcs that cost $ and take no time will be beating out the $$$ & time-sink of a gang of hot cyber chicks

*L* There's a lot of detail... back there...

It is a shame 40k doesn't have a tapping mechanic, with dat ass...

Glad you are dealing with Snikky. I didn't get a lot more this evening other than powering through the base wing coats and purple stockings/sleeves on 11 Stormbitches before my back told me I was done. Needs more sleep, this little servant of chaos does...

Just read through all 4 pages. Really love the entire army idea, the painting, modeling, and every little detail you put into this. I've been playing chaos since the 90's but I've always leaned more towards iron warriors/night lords. However, I just finished reading dark apostle (word bearer's book) and everything you've done fits right into your army(they turned the populace of a world into brainwashed cultists/slaves with gas-masks/etc).

Keep it up!

Those are pretty cool. Full of character. I like them all.

btw.: the original Snikrot does come with a 40mm base, so there's nothing holding you from doing that yourself.

Halsfield: Really? I will have to pick that up then and scrape some ideas out of it.
Glad you like the look of the army too. I really need to get the vehicles together and ready so I can revile these fellows to the world, or at least the FLGSs

Anung Un Rama: Snikky does come on a 40mm? Sexy... I will have to rebuild one for him quick. The fact he overhangs by nearly another 20mm makes the 25mm base sort of pointless. He pretty much wraps his arms around AoBR marines when in b2b as it is...

Also, are you finding the components of the Shokk Attakk gun a little less recognizable? That was your concern earlier and I am hoping I covered it enough with paint and some bits to conceal it some.

Thanks for the comments guys! Keep the C&C coming; it worries me when my only feedback is my own head.
Plus, if I get a little extra crazy and work on the superheavy I will post some pics of that. Because every army with half built vehicles needs a superheavy...

*possible very minor spoilers below, no important story/plot spoilers just descriptions of word bearer tactics and equipment*

I'm just starting the second book, but the sheer amount of details I never knew about the word bearers/space marines in general is pretty astonishing. Of course most of it probably isn't 100% canon, but it is a great starting point for details that make an army like this great.

For instance their use of khantankas (sacrificial blades that are built by each word bearer himself as his own personal blade, ie each blade is unique, one is curved and serrated with runes, another is very sleek and ashen, another decoration-less and more like a small broadsword, etc). They corrupted citizens of the planet to chaos through the use of "discords" (floating robot/bionic/daemon creatures that blared tempting words/screams/etc day and night). The slaves at one point were in high atmospheres working so they brought about these horrible tentacled boxes that rammed into the slaves' mouths and acted like gas masks but changed their voices to a daemonic language. They actually saved some of the citizens of the planet from certain death just to make them into slaves. They also chained them to defilers/other possessed war machines that dragged them into battle as living cannon fodder.

One of the dark apostles used flying tzeentch mantas as a living shield around him. He had smaller mantas(bass/fish sized) flowing/weaving around his body to take small arms fire and devour anything that got close and had larger(man-sized) mantas to rip apart bigger enemies and take larger hits for him. He also rode a disc of tzeentch =p. Was interesting to see their actual use of daemons in a way other than "go kill this"

Another neat portrayal was that of the kathartes (another name for a fury, but these were summoned through the consumption of live slaves). In the "real" material world they were skinless horrific things. In the immaterium they were beautiful alluring women with angel wings. Thought it was neat that these horrible creatures appeared angelic in the warp.

The description of the possessed csm burias changed my whole perspective of the unit. They portrayed the possessed as being regular marines most of the time that could "bring forth" their daemon when needed (nearly werewolf-like) to gain speed, stealth, improved hearing/sight/smell, durability(taking many deadly shots that then healed over), and cunning. I had figured them as little more than slightly thinking daemons that didn't need summoning, but this gave them a lot more depth and control.

Through all of this you feel yourself pulling for the word bearers and the side of chaos. It was pretty strange actually but it made for a really great read that made me yearn for my old word bearers army that I sold >_< (also had a small alpha legion squad and some iron warriors vehicles/troops).

Let's see those vehicles! No time for reading! Work work work ! =p
