I don't think the powers of the Warp have diminished from these pawns of the Dark Gods yet. Can't wait to here about how they do in battle!

Yeah, Marines will serve me well. I've never been a fan of Marines but after reading Vraks pt1 and pt2 and being given a free hand I'm enjoying the idea. Gonna put all the Marines on 40mm bases to make them stand out a bit more.

I'm so gonna use that freaky little girl as inspiration for my sculpt. Thanks for the picture!!

I've ordered some bits for other psykers, the empire militia has some awesome stuff to use. When the bits arrive I'll be able to piece together at least two more psykers quite easily.

A very amazing UPDATE!!

Prepare your bowels for the best update to date!!

WiP Russturm

WiP Griffon Mortar

I'm currently waiting for a few things to dry downstairs but for the moment I'll tantalise you with these. The Russturm is based on the old Panzerturms used by the Wehrmacht. Basically a tank turret emplacement. This is Vrak's codex legal. I am making a base for it as we speak and the front of it will be embedded in the ground so you won't see it but there will be access to the rear.

The mortar is something I knocked up (giggity?) for my Rhino>Griffon conversion. That's still being painted.

I will take some pictures of an Elysian sentinel I have finished painting a little later on alongside the Chimera Half-track I have jsut sprayed black. I ran out of badab black last night so painting sort of came to a standstill. Picked some up but now have to go out and sort out some car tax. Bloody governments!

For those wanting to see what else I have planned for the coming weeks, check out the August Goals thread which I keep updating as progress continues.

Ooh... I like your Griffon mortar more than the one I have been trying to put together... although that may be big enough to qualify as a Colossus!

I don't have any spare battlecannons to chop up for one though. So far I have been cutting up writing utensils for mortar tubes. I might post a pic of it in my dakka blog on here, if I get a chance. I want to see yours though, and how it matches up with the one I am doing (big thanks for the idea of using rhinos for mortar-carriers, ace stuff!).

Yeah, I saw that you stole, I mean, borrowed my idea

I did try carving up some biros before I found my spare cannons, with sexy results.

Yeah, was a bit tired of the old "use a basilisk kit" idea and seeing as though I have a few Rhinos to spare...

As for the base, I painted the mini and the base seperate from one another and simply glued him on using superglue. I did prep the base as you would anything resin i.e. soak in soapy water for three hours then dry off. I've dropped him once and he's still standing!

Is that the Savlar Chemdogs? 'cos they are flippin' sweet!

UPDATE!!

Not as crappy as the one before, thankfully. I do have some updates on my Chimera Half-Track but I shall post them in my P&M thread.

Last night I added ModelStrip to my vile Leman Russ I've had since I was about 10. I had accidently left a spatula I made from spare plasticard in the tub and this is what it looked like after spending two weeks in there:

The plastic film is the only thing intact. That brown mush is the innards of the card. Was a bugger picking that out of the tub. Lesson learned.

The stripper did managed to take off the majority of the Desert Yellow. I remember I had to do about ten coats of it as Foundation Paints weren't even little sperms at the time.

I liberated an AS-90 turret from ChaosBubbles. I love the profile of it.

An Elysian Sentinel my girlfriend got me for my birthday almost two years back. It came without rollbars (much to my chagrin) so I improvised. It's still being painted.

I stole this from another Dakkite (will credit them when I find the thread again). It has since been primed.

I've ordered some bits to make two more Psykers. We'll see how they go when they get here but they are not a priority. Also layered up my Russturm base a lot. Just gotta wait for that to dry.

I am going on a huge tank blitz on Monday and adding all the weathering effects as I hope to have all the base-coating done by Sunday night.

lol it's hardly ambitious. It's the simplest bit off painting anyone can do. Slap on a factory coat onto a bunch of tanks. Each tank only takes about 35minutes to do. I'm having to do a lot of work on the turret, it was given to me in a state. Just waiting for the greenstuff to dry so I can spray it.

Makniakal wrote:Okay, I have to ask:

I love the Havoc launchers but had no use for them in my army until I rummaged through my bitz-pit and decided to make it into a turret. The central part is made from a bit from the Land Raider sponson where the lascannons attach too only it's been put on it's side and the hinge bits clipped off.

Ha ha, yeah. She's a party animal and thus must have party animal friends who destroy houses. And since I'm Mr. B&Q I've been dragged into fixing it.

Elysian sentinels are supposed to come with rollbars but my girlfriend ordered two of them for me and neither came with them. I only found out a few weeks ago when I finally decided to build them but by then it was too late to complain :(

Foundation paints are simply fantastic. One of things GW actually has done right. I use them as both base colours for reds, beiges, whites, etc and as a top coat colour for some gasmasks and for my flesh as Tallarn flesh is by far the most realistic flesh colour GW actually do.

I'm really interested in how this list is going to turn out... Exceedingly impressive painting and converting skills, some of the best I've seen.

Sorry if I missed this as I was reading through the thread, but do you have any ideas for what type of HQ your army will be fielding?

Also, have any fluff for this army yet? That's my favorite part about any army.

Thank you for the kind words and for looking. I am slowly piecing together my HQ around everything else. I've almost finished my Exhaulted Champion (leader) but as he is being entered into Figmentia 2009 I don't want to make him public just yet. I will post a pic of my HQ squad thus far after I've entered him.

As for the fluff, I have been writing it down when I get bored on the toilet so it should be ready soon.

Thank you, also, for the kind words. Really helps me get a wiggle on and complete things. As for the bits, I like the West Wind Production 28mm heads you can buy. 1:35 infantry kits are perfect for weapons while 1:48 kits are perfect for equipment such as pouches and entrenching tools.

Thanking you muchly, Dr. D. Yeah, I love those launchers and bought a bucket load. I couldn't find a place for them until now. I've almost finished painting the turret.

FoxPhoenix135 wrote:So how is the Griffon coming for you? I'm kinda stuck on mine.

Well, Griffon is coming along. I seem to be taking it slow with this one. It's almost base coated and I've somehow lost the mortar. It's on my floor somewhere but I'll be damned if I can find it. Here's a front view of what's there. I'm using the front hatch to house on of the crewmen (the spotter/commander). The loader/firing chump is standing in the rear. It's too small in there to hold two guardsmen leave alone a squad of Space Marines. I am struggling as to where to put the heavy bolter.

Bit late on the old update, I do apologise. Got a new car last week and because my girlfriend has gone up north for some work experience this week I am trying to do as much as I can to my army and do up the car at the same time. Got electricuted earlier as I neglected to disconnect the car battery while swapping the radios around

Anyhow, I have these works in progress to show you. I'm gonna be blitzing all of my baecoated armour tomorrow with pigments and, if I have time, mud. That's eight tanks!

I have had this for well over a year sitting on my shelf unpainted. Finally basecoated it yesterday. It's been based codex grey with a wash of ogryn flesh. Will be pigmentising it tomorrow (as well as giving it tracks).

Almost done basecoating the Exterminator.

The Russturm is coming along better than I had hoped. Pigmenting it tomorrow. Base looks a tad bright but don't worry, will be dulled in the weathering process

I was given this by ChaosBubbles last Friday. It's, err, missing some bits. So I'm trying to decide what to do with it.

My choices at the moment are to either buy the replacement bits off of BitsandKits and make it Alpha Legion or turn it into a Minotaur-style artillery piece:

Part of me is saying go for the cheap Land Raider, especially since it'd help when you expand the Alpha Legion later. On the other hand, I'd like to see you turn it into a Minotaur, just to see what the finished product looks like.

Of course, when in doubt, go with the bigger gun. On that basis, my vote goes to the Minotaur.

I don't see why painting a space marine tank needs to be boring. You can apply exactly the same weathering techniques as you do on your guard tanks. This would also help to provide visual coherence. Plus there's lots of fun you can have with chaos symbols and iconography.

I just find Space Marine tanks so plain and boring. If I'm not interested in what I'm painting I do it a bit half-arsed. Guard tanks are more interesting to paint and build.

Mine was glued on as well, lol. I just ripped apart the tank and bashed it in with a screw driver. That'll learn it to mess with me.

I picked up a '98 Vaxhaull (Opel) Corsa. Scuffed to buggery so I'm pretty much stripping it back and repainting. Hubs are drying as we speak. For some reason the radio I picked up is cheaper than the Corsa standard I was gonna buy from the scrappy. Comes with USB, AUX, CD and SD slots.
