i became pretty much straight edge when i started uni much to the bemusement of my friends and girlfriend (now fiancee). i don't drink, do drugs, or smoke i didn't do it out of fear of becoming an addict or because of religious reasons, i did it because i went from an average student in school to a top end student at uni, i get more thinks done and am far more healthier (going on 3 year straight edge)

the one worry most people have is that they think they need stuff to have fun, you don't need drugs or booze to have a good time and you still have common sense so you know were to draw the line.

if its what you want to do it try it out, but don't go out and get XXX tattooed on you in the first week

If my parents saw I had a tattoo they'd beat me to death, so I don't really think that's a problem.

I still can't get over that there is now an actual 'title' for this kind of outlook and that you can buy T-Shirts. Someone did a hell of a sales pitch.

I agree, why do you have to put a label on yourself? By all accounts I would be "straight edge" too, but I don't need to call myself straight edge to be it. Why should you? Having that label carries with t stupid social stigmas. Don't bother going around announcing it unless you're specifically trying to get some kind of reaction. Just say no to things that go against what you wish to do and call it good. You don't need and "X" on your hand to be yourself. The label is crap.
