@GES - Take up the Guitar/Bass/Drums - that should give you something to do with your time. Plus you could start a band with a few mates - getting together to rehearse/play gigs would give you a reason to hang out together without drinking. Plus chicks dig guys in bands.

TBH, that's how I found out about it. Well, when he was doing the straight edge and not the I'm better then you gimmick.
Aye I did wonder.
Its the same gimmick though, he's always used it, just he either does the nice Straight Edge Face version, or the Heel I'm better than you because I don't version, both are fun and I hope WWE keep pushing him as someone with that attitude (which he adopted in real life as well) deserve to be up there in my opinion. (Well on the drugs side of things at least.)
Pretty sure the Sex thing is as FITZZ said as well, the idea isn't to be against it, just the promiscuous sexual behavior side of things. I notice he's currently going out with Amy Dumas, so that would confirm that part of it.
I could effectivly be classified as Straight edge, drugs wise for ever, fags apart from one drag, since birth and booze for about fourteen years. Not sure I'd actually ever say to anyone that was a lifestyle choice though, unless I was joking.
Good luck one whatever you decide to do though, for me at around 18-19 the choice was simple, fags or booze, or more Hobby goodies, I think I made the right call looking back sixteen odd years later.

To be straight edge, you abstain from drugs, alchohol, cigarettes, sex, all that good stuff.
You know, you can do all those things and not take on someone elses label to define yourself. When I was 15 I didn't do those things and we didn't have a name for it. I can't recall who said it but there is a quote that goes along the lines of "a person wearing a uniform is an extension of another persons will".

Stop sneaking drinks... that is pretty much all you need to do.
If you go straight edge, your bound to hand out with someone that gets all preachy about personal choices... and at that point, you are merely an extension of their opinion.
Stay sober, use a condom, and get into studying bugs or something...
Everybody goes through the identity search, Jack. No big deal as long as you don't let it have longterm consequences (like becoming an alcoholic, getting hooked on meth, and having a child with another 15 year old).
Yeah, getting someone pregnant at 15 is pretty bad news. That's you fethed right there.
And drinking heavily at that age is a bad idea too. Not good for your developing brain.

Nope. I'm discovering more and more about myself as time goes on. As of right now, even Buddhism has lost it's ability to help me from going crazy.
I'm back to being religously undecided for now.

All I asked was if anybody knew anymore about it then I did, which is admittedly, very little.
i only know from what CM Punk says, and doing a quick search online.

Just make educated choices GES, employ the moral compass you already possess and display tolerance, patience and understanding in life.
As to straight edge, I lived my teens and twenties doing enough gak, of various types, to kill a rhino and I don't regret a bit of it, it proved most educational and I had a good deal of fun. In slightly older years I now enjoy that age old saying 'all things in moderation'.
Ahtman wrote:So you ask for our advice and then chastise us for giving stating you are going to do whatever you want anyway? That is really special.
I'd swear you have never met a teenager before... .
Ahtman does have a point though, that goes to the point having having the point of this thread. We are in OT Dakka, so that being accounted for... Ask for advice, you WILL get opinions, as that is the main substance advice can be conveyed through. Like through tubes and snap... on the internet.

Golden Eye (insert theme song here) needs to be 18 before he even thinks about taking the majority of that advice officially, eh? I don't have a problem with 16 being the limit for drinking, but from the sounds of it, 'all things in moderation' is a good standard to live by for a long time.

No offense Golden Eye, but this sounds sort of like when people say "hey, you know what, I don't eat very much meat, I think I should become a vegetarian!"
It doesn't make much sense. If you don't like eating a lot of meat, then don't, but deciding you won't eat any meat ever just so you can have a little title is silly.
Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

I enjoy the fact that this grew out of the ranting of a WWE character.
Anyway, there isn't anything to know. Take punk culture and remove everything that makes those with traditional Christian sensibilities uneasy. It isn't a philosophy. Its just barely a cultural archetype. One largely populated by idiots who use a sense of moral superiority to justify what are often over the top fits of violence in mosh pits.
Like most people who enjoy conformity to the extent that they need to remind themselves of it with a title they are to be laughed at, not joined.
Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh.

Get off your high horse do some research. Ok, I'll admit SOME "straight edge" claimers do this so they can claim the high-ground, only to be caught cheatin on their sig other or getting plastered on the streets. But for others, it's a true identity search. Those that pick this path, I give props to cuz it aint easy, but if you pull it off, you are the WOMAN or MAN! Sure punk is supposedly anti-establishment, but then again, dig deeper and you find self-identification and an assertion to "I have control over myself".

The general idea that most people I've know who are "straight edge" isn't so much "giving up sex",it's giving up the "random hook up", "anything for booty" mentality, maintaining your self respect and not "jumping through hoops" just because someone wiggles their backside at you.
As far as sex in a "relationship",not against the straight edge "rules".
I was thinking this was going to be about shaving choices, no more disposables / electric, so imagine my surprise.
Well, it's your life, and probably less trouble if you do this, because you aren't taking the risks that could get you in serious difficulty / trouble.
Tho WRT sex, did you consider the "technical virginity" option...
I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.

So if Scout doesn't like punk music/stops liking it just like the Buddhism and bisexual phases he cannot be/remain straight edge? I'm seeing this as a lot more about punk music than anything else.

Carefully read what I wrote. I didn't claim that people who consider themselves straight edge are hypocrites. I claimed that most people(I'll add "in my experience" here) with ties to straight edge culture use chemical abstinence as a means of justifying their sense of personal righteousness when engaging in acts of violence.

Ok. It still isn't a philosophy. As I said, its a shallow archetype that is connected to punk culture.

Well, the term "straight edge" and it's " ideology" was coined as a "punk" sub-genre,however,the music ( or being in to "punk) aren't a "necesaity",for the most part (like most things) it's just a point of view and a frame of mind.
