Well...they are, but that doesn't mean everyone that plays in tournaments is a douchebag. It's undeniable though that when there's a cash prize involved some people will try and pull some gak to win it.

Which is probably my biggest pet peeve, people who knowingly bend and break the rules if they think they can get away with it. But the biggest one is people who touch other peoples models without permission.

Lord Maleval wrote:Then again, maybe I am just a cranky !

No, I'm with you, too. There are many different ways to properly paint miniatures, there's no one method to rule them all...and I find the fact that people have actually been discouraged from painting because of dicks who insist that they have to do it the "GW way" or not at all disgusting.

Tim the Biovore wrote:.People who fully read rulebooks and codices in LGS

I try not to do that. I practically did when the new Tyranid book came out though, lol...I walked around the store with it, reading all the new unit entries and stuff, and then ended up putting it back at the end of the night and went home (though I did leave with about $80 worth of stuff regardless).

But then I went back a couple days later and bought it, lol. So I don't think they really cared.

The fact that that if you start a new version of a thread that comes up a lot, you get shouted at for not using the search bar.
But if you post in an older thread (that you found using the search bar) you get shouted at for thread necromancy.

It basically means that newer people cannot discuss older topics without being complained at.

That confuses me in all honesty... more than likely if your do some threadromancy your commenting on something, where as when you start a new thread its questioning something. In which case you could have used the search bar for a thread about the same topic, and more than likely in that thread, the answer to given question has already been answered so theres no need to state your comment in that thread to do some evil thread necromancy. If its a new question on a related topic than I can understand. I personally dont mind people starting a new thread even if there was an old one... especially since I myself find the search bar so freaking hard to use >.<

People who quote pictures that were just posted on that same page of a thread. I get it if you are referring to a pic from page 1 and you are replying on page 5, referencing the material makes sense. Don't do it if you are the first reply since that pic was posted.

Also, people who quote walls of text from a previous poster. It was to long to read the first time, you didn't need to post it again just to reply" lol yeah".

People who do not take the time to find less expensive alternatives to buying directly from GW.

No, elitist crap would be to say that you MUST buy your toys from X, and that every other option is inferior.

How is it elitist to be irritated with people who are essentially wasting money? For every $100 you spend at GW directly you could have gotten a free box regiment by simply buying the same things from a third party retailer like thewarstore.

It's not like you are buying black market hand bags. You are buying the EXACT same product, but by buying it from GW you are paying premium prices for a product you can get damn near wholesale.

I suppose then that people shouldn't buy from wal mart when they can go direct online and pay full retail at a manufacturers website. Premium pricing in economic times like this is a blatant waste of money, and yes, people who waste money are a pet peeve of mine. Call me an elitist for trying to get the most bang out of my few bucks.

But you weren't saying there are alternatives, you were saying it actually annoyed you. Sorry, I just had visions of you watching someone go up to the counter in GW and steam coming out your ears.

A few other things I hate:

1: I hate it when a physics discussion takes over the thread. For example, in another site, someone had modelled a Broadside Battlesuit to look like it was firing a Railgun like a sniper rifle: the very next post was along the lines of "include some recoil into the design", with next posts discussing wherever Railguns fire solid projectiles and would therefore produce adequate recoil.

2: When people get too into the fluff. There's someone on Bolter and Chainsword who posted an idea of a Grey Knight Warhound, and someone criticised his idea, discussing the "ethical reasons of deploying a GK Titan, where a daemonic incursion would provide enough reason for Titan deployment..." etc. The same person blasted the idea of a Thunderhawk Squadron, as they thought Thunderhawks wouldn't be used in a Strike Force, as they would use their bombs to clear landing sites etc. These people need to come back to reality and just enjoy the hobby.

3: GW put articles on "Painting Space Marines" into every other issue of White Dwarf. Last week, I took a random selection of White Dwarfs, just for a quiet read. Out of about 8, there were about 4-5 with almost the exact same article on Painting Marines. Has GW finally ran out of ideas and are just trying to pad out the mag a bit?

People who complain about a product because they believe it infringes on another companies IP. If you're a lawyer with a specialty in the field, that's one thing. My money is that there is maybe, MAYBE, one of those here on Dakka. You can talk. The rest of you, stop saying that something is gonna get shut down when you don't know how much they've looked into the legal ramifications of their product.

I always thought those comments were made in jest at GW's recent onslaught of all I.P. infringements and not as a serious warning.

You'd be surprised at the amount of armchair lawyering on warhammer forums.

Interesting that you rarely hear about IP infringement with other companies, perhaps because their products are not priced to the point where players consider acts of piracy just to play their game.

Would you willingly associate with murderers, rapists, or alien invaders? Tournament Gamers are all of these things! Vicious grasping WAAC scumbags who will stop at nothing to win a game! They'll arrange for your family to be murdered just to distract you enough for them to win! Be warned! Be aware! Shun these foul abominations wherever they may appear!

There are two to my knowledge. They rarely comment though. I think it hurts their brains when they get armchair lawyers arguing with them.

That douchebag at Games Day UK who told me he was building a 1:1 scale Emperor Titan.

So you all know, I'm the kind of guy who loves being as donkey-cave. I have no problem balling people out in public.
If one of my mates makes a dumb comment, I will tear him limb-from-limb for it. I know it makes me a pretty poor friend, but I do it all with a smile on my face and my friends know I'm doing it purely to get a rise from them, not to be mean.

I appreciate that doing this to strangers is often very, very mean. This guy did not look like he could take it. All I could muster was an incredibly smug look and "Yeah but you're not going to, are you?"
I then turned to my two buddies, whos eyes lit up expecting me to rinse this guy out, and I just said "Can we go now, This guy's getting on my nerves."

To this day, I heavily regret not pointing out how much of a smellgrim this guy was being. Not out of the math/construction logistics argument, just the fact he clearly thought he would look cool if he said that. What. A. Douche.
