This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

A couple years ago I created a "for fun" stealth themed list that consisted of a counts as O'shasera as my +1 HQ and a Shas'el with a positional relay, 3 full stealth squads as Elites, the required Fire warriors as 1+ troop choice but my other 5 were full Kroot squads with Kroot Hounds, for Fast Attack I took 3 Pathfinder squads and for Heavy I took 3 Hammerheads.

Fluff wise it was the remnants of a Tau force that was forced to crash land on a Kroot world after a disasterous space battle with Orks. Because of their limited recources they were forced to fight a stealth war with the aid of the local Kroot populace.

Tactics wise I outflanked every single Kroot, infiltrated my pathfinders and used their marker beacon and markerlights to help my Stealthsuits deepstrike in and take out tanks or markerlight for my Hammerheads, Firewarriors moved up and took an empty or easy objective and I usually sent my shas'el out with a plasma rifle and fusion blaster as an opportunity hunter. The list actually didn't do that bad I mean it was by no means perfect but the reason it worked when I did it was because of the Kroot. It was just a fun list but I love Kroot and always take them.

Also on a side note if you outflank your kroot your opponent has 2 choices.

1 he can ignore them which then they'll run around holding things up in cc, they may not be able to kill a heavier tank but if
it's stuck in cc then it can't shoot and if we've learned anything from gaunts an opponent with a large number of attacks can kill almost anything.

2 he can divert some of his shooting/ force to take out the kroot which means that's 1 unit less being focused on your Firewarriors.

Sadly I think with the current rules Kroot will never be the great cc unit that they are portrayed to be in fluff. But that dosen't mean they are useless

True, and they're I 5 so they can strike before Smurfs and then if the Smurfs kill some kroot i can take out the hounds so the carnivores can get their attacks.
