in general please people. It is just toy soldiers after all, yes ? Well played to all those involved, I hope they had/have fun at the event. Can we please keep the snide comments, cheap shots etc etc off the boards please. Ta.

But it's okay for people to do it when the person isn't allowed on Dakka to defend themselves?

Enough with the double standards, please. You guys claim to treat everyone equally, be they a "named" player or not, perhaps its about time to actually start doing that.

Right battle (dakka's laughably inconsistent enforcement of rules) at the wrong time (when they were being handled fairly).

You gotta pick your moments.

Bunker attempting to get another thread locked when it mentions stelek in a less than stellar light? No, say it isnt so...that NEVER happens! He's always so nice.

Whatever.

Apparently Dash and Stelek had a great game. Evidenced on the live feed and even on a BATREP at YTTH. Pretty much a tie, but with Stelek eeking out a win in the 5th and final turn.

Leave it alone, the guys played a game of toy soldiers and had fun. Thats all it means. I'm impressed on the way they handled themselves...laughing during the interveiw and generally being gentlemen.

Props to both.

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

Game sounded quite good from the batrep. Both players accomplished their goals and hopefully walked away from it with a healthy respect and less of this e-drama B.S. Stelek got his win (and could have pulled away more if there had been another turn), but Dash certainly held his own with the supposedly bad codex, giving the greenskins maybe a little more respect. Done. Move on.

I'd like to hear about the other three games.

Well I guess that pretty much proves my point.

So far I've heard nothing but good things about the Open. Looks like the fiance and I will be taking the trip out next year

On a seperate note, has anyone heard about the contents of the swag bag?

I watched a majority of the feed last night (married). I hope future feeds have better video and avoid long pointless shots of the ceiling and empty seats. The internet was clamoring for the Dash vs. Stelek battle and we finally got it, though sometimes we'd get completely blocked by turds in the background or get panned back to an interview.

Note to commentators, most of the viewers were there to watch the games, not stare at red chairs or listen to "Drunk Guy". I personally would have preferred to view the tables and listen to the interviews. From the comments throughout the evening, I'm not alone in this. There's room for improvement, but thank you for the feed. It was much better than nothing.

I was really hoping to get a good view of Dash vs Stelek, unfortunately the feed cut out as Stelek sat down for his first interview and also cut out minutes before they finished their game. Someone commmented Stelek have a Null Zone.

Thankfully the feed came back up and Dash and Stelek sat down for an interview. This was the highlight of the feed for me. Dash listed some specifics that effected the outcome for him and was a very good sport. He seemed to have a good experience playing Stelek and Dash's interview confirmed my opinion of him.

Then there was Stelek. My god how I could not stand this guy, based solely on his old posts here and his personal blog. I got excited as he approached the mic, ready to spam insults. Then he started talking. I was perplexed. Who was this doppleganger? How the hell was the ultimate evil being nice? He gave a good interview and came off like a decent guy, the complete opposite of what I thought he was.

I wish Stelek would tone down his writings. If he cut out the vitriol and wrote like he spoke he'd have atleast one more fan.

Stop being butthurt over Stelek, its so last year. Why aren't you playing him at the Open?

Armchair quarterbacking for the win!

You think that was attacking Stelek?

I was making an observation that from the factors quoted above that he should have crushed Dash.

I was planning on going to the Open, but unlike Stelek, my tickets would be self-funded and when I looked at airfare, it was $300 each way (and that was several months ago). Also I do not fly across the country for one day tournaments.

I would love to play Stelek, and I might be headed to SLC one of these days and see if I can get him out of his basement for a game.

Dash pretty much got crushed actually. He had nothing much left and couldnt do anything except to run back his leftover nobs back to his quarter to avoid a lost.
He could very well be tabled the next turn.

Hmm, I thought this was a 3 day event.

1- Open gaming
2- Tourney day 1
3- Winners from previous day advance to Tourney day 2

Do I have my tournaments mixed up?

1-I can do "open gaming" at home
2-Tourney day
3-No guarantees to be able to play.

Nope, its pretty much a 1 day tourney....unless you're confident enough to KNOW that you're going to come out ahead of people that come in from all around the nation. Otherwise...theres a significant amount of luck thats required for you to continue playing on sunday.

Of course...I still think its worth it to show up. This tourney is very landmarkish.

ahh I found another memeber of 'the mob'. And why are you complaining? that red chair was very sexy But aside from your comments it was a very good event and hilariously funny (except for the drunk commentary of frodo and samwise...)

And Stelek is probably always like that in person, most internet tough guys are. All in all we are all just enthusiests for a toy soldier game. We do battle on the interwebs, but when met face-to-face people are alot different.

And If anyone was wondering:

Gamble had a lot of good comments. The feed was fun, particularly the comments, but it was a bummer not to be able to actually see the game being played; just occasional glimpses when people weren't standing RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA.

The interviews were fun, though. Scooter's always funny. Justin & Andrew were great to see and hear. Stelek being a reasonable human being really helps humanize him. He should download and save that webcast/interview and host it on his own site. It would do him a world of good for people to see him interacting with other human beings like a friendly adult.

The feed was fun, we were all busting out jokes left and right.

Hulksmash played as Wolves vs. Danny Internet's IG. He went second and still won, which is saying something. Typically against an alpha strike IG list, going second is the kiss of death. Both he and Danny Internets were very cordial and seemed like cool dudes (although I know Hulk in RL and can say he really is a good guy). My one complaint is that Danny Internets was neither bald nor screaming! False advertising!

Seriously though fellas, in regards to this little feud, chill out. It's a game. We love the game, it's fun to get behind people whose persona or gaming philosophy we identify with, but honestly, stop the cat fights. It makes us all look like a bunch of whinny bitches.

Who gives a gak if some dude says one codex is da weaksauce, and dude 2 says: no wayz brospeh, dis codex be da win!

It's an opinion. Nothing more. If you want to prove something, you are not going to do it with words on an internet forum. The more you rail against all the "idiots" who don't see things the way you do, the more you polarize the community.

You really want to prove something? Go play the game like these guys all did and see what happens. Win consistently with a lit or build or strategy and people will listen. Talk a lot of trash on the internet and you look like a douche bag.

Everything besides playing is just comments from the peanut gallery and not worth a damn. Fun to jibber jabber, but doesn't prove anything, so drop the billy bad ass attitudes. Unless of course your name is Billy, and you happen to be a bad ass.

Hats off to those who played, looks like they all had fun. Drunk Guy was funny...for a while! Stelek and Dash played sooooooooo slow. No wonder they only got 5 turns, they were moving at a glacial pace. Took twice as long as most of the other games.

And, I must say, as much as Stelek rubs me the wrong way with his gakky internet attitude, he seemed decent enough in his interview. I felt at least a little bad for him when everyone started calling him fat and commenting on his man boobs while he was reading the feed during his interview. That was pretty brutal.

I think his tone is just a gimmick to stir up controversy, to be honest. I think he wouldn't be as "notorious" if he spoke nicely.

The man boobs thing is pretty uncalled for, but I don't disappoint myself by expecting class from the anonymous internet playa-hatas.

Stelek, Dash, the outspoken sorts bring most of this on themselves, but they at least appear capable of taking it as well as dishing it. I have noticed a sustained campaign of "stop the in-fighting to save the hobby" posts and while I agree with the sentiment, there's nothing wrong with healthy debate and disagreement. Folks just need to return to the "healthy" part.

...Bunker, calm down.

I was one of the ones making fun of him in "The Mob" chat. I'm a avid supporter of Stelek, but I remained neutral on the game outcome and poked fun at everything I could.

I mean, we're just staring at a computer screen for a few hours, we had to liven it up, do you blame us?

I mean, it's just satire for the hell of it, but Drunk Guy (Scooter of Inner Circle Gaming Club) made the night worthwhile for a bit. (Till the end of his ramblings with Frodo (Chumbayala of Blackjack and Hookers blog)

We were just having fun poking fun at everything else. "DOWN WITH THE WHALE IN FRONT!...Oops that be Stelek."

I mean, I don't get offended at that crap, we don't mean anything by it either and lo and behold, the game result was close.

I think both sides are happy here, yes? I know I am.

Thanks those of you who are bitter about it, we were just trying to have fun on a Friday night, both camps of both sides of each battle got along and we just had a grand time.

Beginnings of unity?

Oh and I has not the manbewbs.

But! I was shocked Danny neither was Bald nor Screaming on camera.

I don't think he generally makes personal comments about people's appearance. The part that crossed the line was when they sat down for an interview after the game, and the screen was turned towards them so they could read it, and a couple of guys made nasty comments about his weight. It was just unnecessary and inappropriate.

Its just small people being small. They're the same type of people who come on places like Dakka and talk gak just because they know he's unable to defend himself here.

Incidentally, they're also the people who use his lists and ideas and try to pawn them off as their own.

Danny Internet and I had an awesome game. And in a fine sense of irony Dan won the Ren. Man (Overall) today after going 3-1. I was so excited when they announced the winner was 3-0 going into round 4 with a nicely painted army and a great guy I was thinking....did I win Ren. Man? and then Dan won

Honestly he earned that award though. Great tournament and a ton of fun. I personally hope I see a lot more like it.

Sorry if I offended you or came off as child-like in my post. Just trying to keep the thread light-hearted

1) Again, sorry if I offended you. I was just refering back to the chat room which some peole jokingly called 'the mob'

2)I also judge by actions, but that wasn't enough in this situation. IMHO, people should act on the internet the same way they act in person. Some people disregard this and act completly different (most of the time obnoxious) on the internet just because people don't know them. To me, that's like bumping into a stranger on the street and then cursing him off for running in to you. With Stelek's attitude (which was very good) in the Interview I will take this senerio a step further. After this bump in you go to your work and find out the person you ran into on the street is your new co-worker. Even thought now you come off as very approachable and nice, their first meeting with you will mar your relationship.

3) Sorry for the mis-read on your post, that was my bad
