Glory to the Twelfth! Glory to Angron!

‎"Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls. The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does. That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Thanks though no, I don't do commissions. I only paint for fun and doing this as a job would definitely take some of the fun out of it.

Well I managed to finish off my third vindicator last night and took some pics but the camera ran out of juice as I was about to transfer the pics. Had to wait till this morning for the battery to finish charging and transfer the pictures. The leftmost vindi is the one I initially painted and I can't remember if I gloss varnished it or not - judging from the pics, I didn't. The other two looks shinier in the picture but in person, they have a more matte finish as they've all been sprayed with dull cote. The shininess in the pics is probably from my otte light bulb which is positioned to the right of the pic. One on the right is also missing its headlamps which unfortunately is the way the unit came when I bought it off someone. Anyway, here is the line breaker:

Also, another pic of all the armor I've painted so far:

Stunning. The weathering and grime is well done and adds a lot to the finished models.

One of the best BA armies I have ever seen.

i also like that even though it is BA you aren't just focusing on all the new hotness but are doing lots of core units and models: dreads, rhinos, tanks, tactical marines, etc.

This seems to suggest you love the army/chapter itself and not just what the band wagon crowd and army jumpers are excited about...

i wasn't a fan at first, but i am glad that i kept scrolling though... this is some very good stuff!
just one question about the varnishing. could you give a little more detail about what varnishes you use and how you use them. i have always been a little bit scared to varnish, read too many horror stories about bubbling and dulling of the paint job... but it is such a necessary step in the process.
again. great stuff! can't wait to see what you do next.

Thanks. I'm more of a collector/hobbyist so I picked the army I felt was the most aesthetically pleasing. Also a big fan of red though not in the bright hues BA armies are painted by GW. Not sure exactly what the band wagon crowd paints but I've got just about every possible unit for the BA's purchased so I'm sure I'll be painting them soon

I use Krylon Gloss varnish. It's really cheap (about 3 bucks a can) and never had any frosting problems. I'll apply one or two coats of this followed by one or two coats of testors dull cote. Again no problems with frosting on the dull cote in any weather. I'm from Vancouver and it rains here 80% of the year and dull cote has always worked flawlessly. I tried Army Painter Matte Varnish as well but that frosted almost right away, even when doing it indoors so I would avoid that.

Matrim wrote:i REAAAAAAAAAALLY want to know how you have done the weathering on the Dozer blades. it just look so sexy.

Weather for the blades is first shaded by airbrush. Then I pick out large scratches along the edges with black, filled in with boltgun metal. Then I do a drybrush of edges with boltgun metal to further pick out the edges and show more wear. Finally the dirt is stippled on using a large brush with Calthan Brown. Very easy and since I don't use any pigments, it's all tabletop friendly.

No, never played a game in my life though I'm open to the possibility later on once I get more of the army painted. Right now I"m just a hobbyist/collector and would never think about ebaying this army. Spending too much time and effort to sell it off right now. Money isn't an issue with me since I work full time at a well paying job.

Not a problem, I'm happy to share my experiences. Good luck with your airbrush. First few months might be hard trying to get used to it and learning the techniques but once you have a handle on its use and maintenance, the amount of time it'll save you and quality of results will definitely be worth it!

Ah, well actually I think I'm quite slow. I only manage to do about 1-2 vehicles a week. I've got a ton of models lined up for painting, still need to finish off my furioso dreadnought, then have Dante and Corbolo to do. After that, I might look into assembling one of the dozen or so boxes of SM BA units I bought earlier. I buy faster than I can paint!

Kitbashed an TLAC cannon turrent tonight for a razorback. Not sure where all the parts came from, mostly from the DA ravenwing upgrade sprue...here's the result:

Also took some pics of my display case. Got my BA on the 2nd level of my Ikea Detolf. Running out of room and had to move the Drop Pod to the third level. Still missing my dreadnought as it's on loan to the LFGS after winning a painting contest.

Here's a shot of my top level - just a random mix of all kinds of models from various ranges:

Don't know about the rest of your subs but if you ever have a slow painting day and fancy showing of some close ups of that top shelf I'd be a very happy bunny.

Very impressive progress as ever Egg.

The arm is from the missile launcher in a devastator/tactical squad. Basically, it's the left arm of the marine that's used to brace the launcher.

I know about that arm, I was inquiring about the arm holding the plasma gun.

I know about that arm, I was inquiring about the arm holding the plasma gun.

It's a normal arm that normally holds a bolter cut up and reposed so it's straight.

I use an Iwata Revolution BR. It's only about 100 bucks so it's quite cheap but dual action with gravity feed cup. thinking about upgrading to a new airbrush soon, might get an infinity.

Haven't had an update lately since I got Fallout New Vegas. It's been sucking up all my painting time. I did manage to get some painting in this past week to finish off my DC rhino. Quite happy how it turned out with the skulls on the top and rear hatches. Also working on Brother Corbulo which should be done in the next day or so.
