(edit: someone posted before I could reply!) @1hadhq: I might do that. I am however considering getting two to attempt a coversion to a full t-hawk.

The more I see this pic the less I dislike it. I'm getting used to it I must say. But I think that turret will end up on a razorback for me. I'll add the weapons somewhere else.

I can see that. Interesting. Could anyone who is good at photoshop or something repost it without the turret? please?

Since you said please...

Though I wouldn't say it was a good photoshop, just a quick one to make a point.

You did a great job actually, it's pretty seamless!

@Lord Sythican. Yeah I think it looks better without the turret. Probably. Tbh I don't see why I care so much. I don't play BA.

oh and yes, it make a big difference, it looks for more aerodynamic now, and if you moved that vent down to be flush with the top, even more so -

Remove the turret, lower the intake and it looks a bit better. Still super-deformed, but better.

Turrets on the side, starwars gunship style would be cool, with some big ass VTOL engines mounted under them to excuse how front heavy it is with at least a nod to a need to provide lift for it lol.

Better start sharpening my hobby knife and hoarding plasticard lol

Getting there, maybe with Valkyrie wings and an elongated tail...

No. It's still a chibihawk. It can't be saved. Tell GW to go back and do it again.

That said, I really think GW should do something about the availability of FW kits that are pretty much necessities, like the vendetta. There aren't too many such kits, which I think would make it easy enough for GW make them available through their normal storefront.

I think if GW does this Flyer expansion, I think we'll see the rules within this expansion treat them more like the "old" flyers and less like really fast skimmers.

Really? I had never heard that. What is your source for this? It makes sense, though.

Anyway, I could see a flyers expansion coming in one of two ways:

1. Another WD-only expansion, like Spearhead.

2. A full-blown Apocalypse supplement, like Reloaded.

Now, it has been a while since we've seen any major releases on the Apocalypse front, so that seems to make #2 more likely. Then again, it could just as easily go the other way since it seems like GW is trying to slowly turn regular 40k into apocalypse!

Either way, I would be keen to get my hands on a plastic Thunderbolt.

Also what do you think about the parts I circled? A friend pointed out to me that they seem to stick out entirely too much. I am not sure what could be done to fix these parts, short of plasticard.

BTW I wonder which site will have the first contest regarding this kit? "Fix the Stormraven and win a Prize!"

It could be fixed. Give the marines even bigger heads.

Well its red and it can't fly. I guess that means it is perfect for orks!

To me it's rather poorly thought out. The odd turret on top, the oddly placed multi-meltas and the fragile looking wings. The tail is probably an odd part as well. Must investigate. I might get one, but convert it into a stand-in Arvus or something along those lines, leaving all weapons off.

The parts behind the left boltgun marine are the sponsons. The other side of the side-hatch may just mirror this.

Going to fix this failure in design no matter of contest or not.

I have my own idea as to how to fix the appearance. My changes would be as follows:

1. Get rid of the vent on top. It serves no purpose, and makes the Stormraven taller and even less plane-like.
2. Instead of the tall, narrow fuselage, use a wider, lifting body. Scrapping the front door lets you cut down on the height. Put two assault doors on either side for deployment of Assault Marines while airborne, and a rear door for loading while on the ground.
3. Move the wings and engines forwards over the doors.

In the end it would look something like this. (Warning: quick hand sketch!)

@Majortom That looks more like it. Having the thrusters on the side of the nose alone makes it more workable

The original pic. Hate it.

Nice MajorTom11!

Who would have thought removing such a large piece (the tail) would have helped so much?!

Lets see get 2 bright lances. Put it on the side. Need to extend it using any extra vechile frames and use the tail as the support for the back.

Well, I don't think there would be too much to do actually!

As I see it you would need to -

1. Remove lascannons from the turret, then ditch the gunner seat all together. Nothing more than a scalpel cut there.

2. Cut down that top vent, probably nothing more than a scalpel cut there also. Re-attach and fill any gaps with plasticard and maybe a little GS.

3. Design a template for the hull extension, then cut it our of plasticard. When I actually do this, I will share the template.

4. Do not install slowed tail lol, if there is a gap left, simply fill with plasticard again

5. this is the only tough part, figuring out where to get additional thrusters for the front. I am sure that if there was demand for it, I or anyone else could design something, and our good friends at Chapterhouse, Troll forged or Maxmini would be happy to cast and sell it! The thrusters themselves do not have to be identically housed to the back ones, merely share the armor design aesthetic to 'fit in'

The thing that makes me so confident about converting this is the fact that the boxy nature of marine vehicles really makes plasticard an effective, and relatively easy to make look good solution. It's not like Eldar or Tau with all the curves to worry about. If you guys want it would be great to start a blog about it in P and M when the kit comes out, and put together a template and tutorials to share with everyone who prefers their SR's looking like this as opposed to the all tit and no ass configuration lol!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh, forgot.

I picture the back end of it kind of being an upside down trailer. I.e the extensions are on the sides as seen, but the back and bottom are open, so kind of enclosing the Dread bay area. Would love to put servo arms, some kind of cabling system and other gubbins in there, something that looks like it would hold, service and deploy the dread in some kind of bungie like apparatus. (I'm kind of picturing the dread being dropped while tethered to the bungie's, and the SR would hover at just the right height that when the cords extend to their max, and just as the dread is about to 'bouce' back, the grapples would detach and the dread only has to actually freefall a few feet before he lands.)

MajorTom:

In all seriousness, you need to take that design of yours to Chapterhouse and the other Third Party groups to see who can make the parts.

Your 'shop job is great. I'd buy that model in a heartbeat. Get someone to make it for all us shlubs who don't know how to convert with plasticard.
