Very little in contemporary Fantasy is, these days. There's only so many variations on 'Dwarf' that you can make and still have it be recognisable as an archetypical Dwarf.

These make up for any lapse in originality through being quality sculpts, though.

yes. But when someone made the variation of "Naked Dwarf with Big Axe, Tattoos and Mohawk" 20 years ago, and it was actually new back then. It kind of raises a red flag for someone else to be doing it now.

Oh I forgot, it's not GW doing it, so it's ok. Because it lets the people that "quit" GW still hang around on the fringes and yell about "quitting GW", even though they've been "quitting GW" for 10+ years now.

Really? You don't think 20 years is long enough for it to become just another standard variation of Dwarf?

Oh I forgot, it's not GW doing it, so it's ok.

I've never had a problem with GW borrowing ideas from elsewhere, either. Pretty much everything GW have ever released has been based on established fantasy and scifi archetypes.

In a word? No. Especially when the "Dwarf Slayer" has become pretty iconic in GW's mythos. You know, that whole "Gotrek" thing.

I'd have thought that dwarf gyrocopters were the most original thing GW brought to the fantasy dwarf concept. Slayers are essentially just Norse-style berserkers with the addition of orange Mohawks (originally not always orange, OR mohawked - they came later as "must haves") and the slayer oath fluff (became an oath-cult later). The tattoos were sometimes referred to as woad warpaint as well back in the day.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Worglock - it has indeed, though the ideas around it took a lot from Norse and English ancients/dark/middle ages archetypes.

Good old Bill King, eh?

Agreed. Can't we just enjoy great sculpts and a great paint job for once without all the usual drama?
