I purchased three kits to use for myself on my Pre-Heresy Thousand Sons army, as I'm converting three Stormravens to be big enough to stand in as Stormhawk dropships (not a lot of info on them, but they carry a bit more than 12 marines from the descriptions in the book "A Thousand Sons".)

?
You're suggesting that once the initial rush runs out that you won't be restocking them for a month or 2 at a time? You really handle stock in this way?

As much as I'm sure you'd like me to send you my money immediately, I'm sure you'll have stock on hand sometime in the next month or so, and if you don't, I'll just buy something else from somewhere else. I can't see you not attempting to have stock on hand of something like this for quite some time, though.

They're a small company probably run out of one of the owner's homes (correct me if I'm wrong, Chapterhouse) who probably do this as a side job instead of full time. In addition, they seem from their posts to outsource their production of the actual kits and therefore probably order kits in lots for a bulk discount instead of individually. When they get a critical mass of orders, they place the order. Welcome to the world of NOT-multinational publically traded companies!

And like any business, I'd imagine that they do their best to keep stock of items that would have a constant turnover. While in 6 months time he may only order them in every so often, it would make more sense to keep stock that constantly sells on hand.

Like he won't be getting in stock of them anymore in 2 weeks or a month when they're likely to still be selling well for the near future.

I found him suggesting/telling me to "order now because other people are happy to wait and he won't have them in stock later" as rather rude TBH. I don't give a whatever if other people are happy to pay now and get items later. I'll order when he has stock, just like I do with everyone else I buy crap from. I'm sure a few of the other resin people here don't do this as a fulltime job either, but what I've gotten from at least 2 of them in response to similar queries have basically been "we should have them in next monday, so order then!"

I don't have the money to throw around on paying in full for stuff that will ship at some point in the future. Well, I might do, but I certainly don't have the inclination. - But hey, he's welcome to send them out to me now and I'll pay for them when I get my next paycheck!

Hell, if he has them in stock in a couple of weeks then I'll buy a couple. If the next batch is sold out instantly again then I'm sure he'll get some more in quicksmart, and I'll buy one of those ones.

Everyone needs to relax a bit. Let me explain how I handle stock.

Thursday are final invoicing of orders and pack for shipping day.

Friday is head to post office and ship out the 4-7 totes of packages.

Metals I manufacture myself, and usually do this once a week (monday - wed) to keep up stock. So at most you have a 1 week wait if we are out of stock of that item (I dont have time to cast every time we run out of something, I wait till a certain day of the week to do so).

Resin kits are manufactured by a couple of companies here in the states that have the facilities to mass produce and mold up resin kits.

I get weekly shipments from these companies that usually arrive Thursday while I am packing - just in time to be included in outgoing orders. Sometimes they come in on Friday while I am out shipping orderings.

As far as our website goes, I keep items "orderable" as long as they are in production. I do my best to update the "availability" time of each product to indicate the actual wait if they are not on hand for shipping that week.

If you want to wait till we have available stock for the Storm Raven kit, I know you will be waiting a while.

The Simple Fact is that many customers are already placing orders, even though they know we dont have stock on hand. This means that they are first to get any products we get in. Once those customers are taken care of, and we have any on-hand stock left, I will change the "availability" of the Storm Raven kit to "2-3 days" showing we have them on hand instead of the "14 days" showing we do not.

Chances are that if you do decide to wait till they are "on-hand" then you will be waiting a month or two since other customers are paying for the ones that come in weekly ahead of you.

I am sorry if you do not like that way of handling orders. I can say it has worked fine for the last 3 years, and will probably work fine until the new site is up and going with its real-time inventory status.

For What Its Worth - this is my full time job and I support my family on it. That is why I respond so quickly to pretty much every email and phone call I receive.

I have found Chapterhouse studios to be very professional despite the small size of their company. How they "manage" their stock is not the concern of the consumer, as long as the consumer is made aware of the potential delivery time prior to purchase, which they are.

I have emailed them a number of times and always receive prompt replies. For a company that runs from a garage I think they handle themselves very well and I can not fault their professionalism, your attitude however, sucks.

I don't know... I mean, I'm a CHS fan and I think Nick's a great guy. Big fan here.
At the same time, though, scipio has a valid point. Maybe he's not articulating it in as friendly manner as many would like, but it's perfectly valid.
Do I agree with him p.o.v? Nope. Not at all. That doesn't mean I begrudge him it, however.
When CHS puts out something I'm looking for AND I've got the scratch to spare that I'm not using to save up on Battle Foam (LOL), Nick will be seeing an order from me. As it sits he just has very little product I'm in need/want of.

Keep trucking, Nick!

It sounds to me like he is belittling the efforts of the studio, if this is not his intention, then I apologise, but to criticise a small company who have had to fight the good fight against the evil corporation and make products that customers want and will get for reasonable prices seems unjust.

As an example, I'd go to chapterhouse for a pre-heresy jump pack alternative before being ripped of by Forgeworld. If I have to wait a week or two (which invariably I do being in the uk) to receive them then i have to wait. I'm happy to wait knowing that ive saved money, got a good quality product and am supporting a company I hold in high regard. GW, whilst creating a gaming system and a world that I love, do not inspire any kind of loyalty due to the "evil corporationess" of their actions.

This is a forum, and people are entitled to their opinions but sometimes people need to get things in perspective...

I'm not going to get into my opinions on IP protection. Suffice to say that characterizing two companies trying to make money that are in conflict as good and evil is beyond ridiculous.

Yes, no doubt there was not the slightest bit of hyperbole in the original statement.

That said, your lack of interest in the propriety of GW's legal actions aside, the fact is that while GW's product quality may not be uniformly disreputable, their corporate culture reflects defects not evidenced in any of their competitors.

As an aside; I'm a little mystified how engaging in morally questionable actions (which using the threat of spurious litigation to threaten and possibly destroy your competitors certainly must be considered) is rendered value neutral but the perpetrator's status as a corporate entity.

I guess I don't consider protecting your IP to be spurious. Are GW supposed to take into account whether or not the companies they consider to be infringing can afford to be taken to court?

Again, this thread doesn't need to become another one of _those_ ones. If you genuinely think that characterizing a third part gaming parts manufacturer as some sort of folk hero isn't a: how several people actually see the situation and b: completely absurd then good luck to you. I'll spare you the condescending emoticon.

Honestly, in terms of personal impact,GW executives don't post in other manufacturers Dakka threads making snide remarks about quality, so they have one up on CH "executives" in my book.

Can we please keep this thread free of conversation on IP, evil corporations, legal battles, and the like? There is another very long thread for that...lets keep this thread focused on the models CH is releasing

That's a service that Dakka provides to any manufacturer, with varying degrees of fervour.

CH is the only company I'm aware of that provides that service to it's competitors.

Chapterhouse is still a user and their complaints regarding other companies bits are just as valid regardless of what motives you assume. Would you rather have Nick get on another Dakka account and criticize in other threads? At least he's being up-front here.

This is, rather, largely beyond the point.

I largely appreciate Chapterhouse being up-front and honest about the inner workings of his operation. Makes him seem much more human. I've ordered twice from Chapterhouse and I have only good things to say about their service. Being able to whine and complain in a Chapterhouse thread on Dakka with Nick actually listening makes it all the more favorable.

I wish you continued success, Chapterhouse.
