Just a bit more rivets for the Rivet Throne

Viktor von Domm wrote:lol... i feel your pain... happens to me all the time... i am still a totally noob when it comes to GS....

The most painfull disaster for me is to find pieces of my hairs in GS
Well, I'm a noob aswell, but the more you do, the better it gets. Russians say "eyes are afraid, but hands are doing", so it all comes to stubborness and carefulness as always. I guess you saw those nice tips on working with GS by storag.

Well, I and storag are close friends in reality and sunk into hobby simultaneously, so it's not surprising we both appeared on Dakka at the same time.

Those goggles look amazing! I liked the "razor" sun glasses too, but these are better.

Good time of a day, everyone!

I've got a shipment from Zinge at last - those famouse flexible ammo belts. And I must say it's amazing stuff: crisp details, no molding lines, realy easy to bend and it holds the shape thanks to thin metal wire inside the belt (a very smart engineering decision!). Thus I got back to work on my Heavy guy and I think he's almost finished:

So, what do you think?

@El Vic:
Thanks, mate!
Great stuff, indeed. Zinge made my life easier. By the way, I've added a lot of rivets on the backpack

@Jake:
Thank you!
To be honest, there are just a lot of small flaws all over the mini, e.g. a bit uneven backpack, but, hey, it was a valuable experience and I want to finish this damn model at last!

@Capitansolstice:
Thanks, man!

And here's my progress:

I'm a really crappy photographer, so the pic doesn't show a zenithal highlighting properly, however the main purpose of posting this is to show my first attempt on rusty elements.

hah... he says he added rivets to the backpack and then only shows the torso^^ lol... and by the way the pics aren“t that crappy... i really like the red... it is a nice and bloody red...living almost... and the base is just cool, the tine splotch of goo coming through the pipe is just priceless...

That pipe drip is what makes this model, also your rust is very nice and real

@El Vic:
Well, those rivets are visible on the previouse picture

Not THAT crappy, but yet - crappy I should make a propper light-box.
As for the red - I'm trying to paint zenithal highlighting, from a very dark (almost brown) basecoat red to the blood red with some orange extreems.

@Capitansolstice:
Thanks!
I've spent some time to mix a propper colour for the rust and I think it worked out pretty well.

And the idea of the goo was shamelessly stolen from one of those awesome pics on CMON

this highlighting technique sounds very interesting... which eplains why you need so much time then.. of course if you invest so much time in the built up of the colors,.,,, we definatly need better pics...

oh hadn“t realised them rivets in the previous pic^^

now enlighted i see^^ i was too fascinated by the amobelt and the big gun... even a riveter can get carried away...

Zenithal is an awesome highlighting technique.

You using an airbrush to do it?

@El Vic:
Well, Zenithal is really easy and even not that time consuming, especially if you have an Airbrush. I'm just a very slow painter, smudging lazily with my brush over and over again at one spot even if there's nothing to paint already
There's a great article at From The Warp about zenithal highlighting.

Wow, that's a hell of a compliment from a Riveter!

@Horst:
Indeed!
And no, I use a simple brush and a lot of blending. Airbrush is an awesome tool, though you need a propper workspace, better with a good vent, if you don't want to find yourself in the hospital with some lungs problems... Not for my small flat

LOL... homeless servant of the emperor...now that is a new one^^
by the way... might be due to the harsh light but i think the wrinkle above the real eye should geta bit of a darker shadow...to make him look a bit more menacing? coould be of course that you already did that and the light took that aways for the pics...

According to fact that Blood Ravens don't have a planetary fortress and is a fleet-based chapter, they ARE homeless servant of the emperor indeed
That's true - he really should frown. I've painted a gray eyebrow at first, then repainted it... Don't know why. Should paint it back again.

yeah i guess that would suit him quite well... fronwing bum... lol... and do something to make the lensed eye a bit more sparkly... i think that way his face would be more "lit" up... no seriously i think a bit of enegry would make his face way more agressive...
