Yeah, look but don't touch is a good policy around OCD types with bad social skills. Its just common courtesy to not touch. But something getting knocked off because of a "gaming accident" (dice hitting it, table getting knocked, tape measure fiasco, bad arm swing), maybe you should leave the stinking Mona Lisa at home.l

Had a friend break one of my crisis suits once.

The little metal part of his tape measure shot off when he retracted it once, taking off the arm of one of my crisis suits in my dead pile.

We couldn't find the arm but I thought it was the funniest damn thing I had seen in a game.

Complete accident. Odds of it happening again are fairly low.

Another time, someone was looking at my Powerfist Kroot (with my permission to touch it. I don't like people touch my models, but if you ask permission, I'll usually let you.)

He dropped it, the "powerfist" broke off. He apologized. I glued the arm back on and shrugged it off with an "accidents happen"

If a model breaks by accident, nothing you can do but Shrug it off and fix it.

If someone just breaks a model of mine on purpose, he is not allowed to touch them anymore.

Nice and simple. No hammers, no fighting. Don't let it get to you. Some people are donkey-caves just trying to get you to fight with them or just trying to get a rise out of you. Best to deal with them with a big smile and a "haters gonna Hate".

If someone starts going through all of your models one by one and breaking them and you are at a FLGS, DO NOT get physical. Get a manager. The ass will be banned(and possibly arrested, like in deadshot's story) and you will be compensated. You get physical then you can get in trouble.

TL;DR

Leave the fighting to the Models.

I have only ever had someone break one of my models once.

It was one of those fragile spears that come with the Dark Eldar raider. Guy at the store was just helping me clean up, and it just happened to snap off. I didn't see it, I didn't really care. He apologized, and I just shrugged and glued it back together when I got home.

That being said, I used to wonder why all the little kids wandering around the local store seemed to give me a wide berth. Matter of fact, at the time I could only remember my friends who work at the local GW asking to touch my models. Couldn't figure out why for a long time, because I'm generally a pretty sociable and bright person. I always have a good time. I wondered if my models were just ugly.

Then I got an answer from the local manager one day. See, I carry a knife with me on my belt wherever I go. Not a hobby knife, a folding utility knife. It's a self-defense and utility thing. Not to mention it has a seat belt cutter and windshield peg built in, so I worry less about being trapped in my car if I'm ever in an accident. I don't flash the thing around, and I have NEVER drawn it on someone. But apparently carrying the little black knife was enough to make people wary of touching my miniatures. You'd have figured that in a hobby full of sharp pointies, people wouldn't give a second thought to the guy with the knife on his belt.

My brother had the humorous incident of a GW staff eating his Chaplain. Sort of.

He was playing a game against the store manager, and his Chaplain killed... a lot of stuff. The manager picked it up and stuck it in his mouth.

We have no idea why.

Ewww,

a good reply to that situation would be to start saying how you found these great alternative paints that contain lead, but they tend to not chip as easy so the poisoning issue is moot...

I generally let people touch my models but when it comes to little kids I tell them not to touch. The mothers usually shout at me but shut up when they find out the prices of my " little toys"
