Probably, but then this guy also installed an oblivion mod that synced oblivion time to the system clock
so an hour in oblivion actually lasted an hour in real life, and if he needed to meet someone at midnight he actually had to play at midnight...

My point is that because of that mod, he unbalanced the game so much. Rushing is actually a viable tactic over turtling if done right in an unmodded game-- you can give your enemy a massive setback. Actually seen people kill off commanders before either side reached tier three.

I am not an expert on that game (in fact I'm downright horrible at it) but I have seen enough games to know that your opening moves can totally shut out your opponent. Getting a couple assault bots on your opponent's opening mass points can ruin their day very quickly.
That said, anybody who would install that Oblivion mod probably has other problems, and you can't exactly blame the game at that point...

ACUs are designed to stop exactly that - they can inflict a lot of damage. In fact, the only thing that can stop an ACU early on is another ACU, or many T1 bots.

Well sure, but time your ACU is spending to control your mass points is time that ACU is not building your T1 factories/power generators/reclaiming mass. I guess I made it sound like that can win you the game. I didn't mean it that dramatically, but throwing off your opponent's build order is a big deal.

Well, yeah. That's why building a land factory is imperative - to get those engineers. Disrupting build orders can be done in any RTS, really. RTSs that involve base building, anyway. Not sure how you can disrupt build orders in Dawn of War 2.

Resident Evil 5 was fun if you had a friend...
That said it wasn't a particularly good installment of a franchise known for 'survival horror' or whatever it was supposed to be.

Oh, speaking of Horror that is not horror : Dead Space It could have been terrifying, and indeed it was conceptually. The devs, after all, took their inspiration of the necromorph designs from the mangled corpses of car crash victims, iirc. The problem though is that they made it too action orientated and gave the protagonist too many goodies - It's difficult to be afraid when you can just put the monster in stasis and use T.K to blew it up with a barrel.

Were you on Argent Dawn? Argent Dawn is my absolute favourite community. Sure, there's nasty stuff in Goldshire, but other than that the server is filled with niceness and variety. It makes the community have a sense of completeness that is rare indeed.

Honestly CoD and Assassin's Creed.
As per a more specific example of a series I like but a game in the series I dislike that doesn't seem to stop getting praise.... Fallout 3. Simply put, couldn't care for it. Got hyped for it years after it was out. Played NV, went back and played 1 and 2. Finally got F3 to work and was super hyped. The opening was amazing. And then I left the vault and got bored very quickly. I just can't get why people like it so much. It's script is bad, the world makes no sense, level scaling gets irritating, Three Dog oh god why, didn't like the companions, and the story was so horridly bad I just quit it after I finished the main missions for a sense of completion.

I would agree with you with numbers 2 and 3, although I thought the first one did a pretty good job of the suspense, and making you jump at times. And that's from someone who has seen an unhealthy number of horror films..

Even number one was way too easy. Having a couple jump scares isn't really enough to call something "horror", to me anyway.

The only parts of the 1st and 2nd game I thought scary was in the beginning, where from the get-go the protagonist has to run from a hoard of monsters without any gear.
Well, on the first run, anyway. After that it lost it's charm.
I consider the 3rd game to be best in the series, really. They finally dropped the pretense of being a horror game, and concentrated on the already-decent action side of the game. As it turns out, it was pretty good.

I played Dead Space in a darkened room with a bloody good pair of headphones on, which might have made it a bit more scary than it would have been otherwise.
I really liked Eternal Darkness on the Gamecube, as a mess-with-your-head kind of game.

Not a fan of Starcraft. I played C&C or AoE instead, so maybe that is why.
I can't stand Final Fantasy. The mix of the story and the look (and sound), just no.
I dislike CoD now, but I loved WaW and Modern Warfare on PC. But now multi just sucks. If the servers would allow more people in a game it would be better, but 8 on 8 on some of those maps is just dumb.
Not a fan of Elder Scrolls, I find them to be boring. But I love Fallout 3 and NV... probably because I prefer firearms to swords.
I have grown to dislike GTA, I loved Vice City, 3 was alright. I much prefer Saints Row (and I don't care how silly they got, it is exactly what I wanted out of it)
And I have never been a big fan of Counter Strike. I played a lot of it, and I was fairly good at it. I much preferred Day of Defeat, which no one played last time I looked.

Have you ever played Fallout NV with unarmed combat and high luck (and jinxed). It's hilarious the amount of devastation you can cause without drugs. Admittedly I almost always opt for firearms (still wish they could make energy weapons better)
I remembered, reading this, another game I could never get into. GTA. Not really that I hate it, just never got into it. I rather like Saints Row. It started as a copycat that leaned on comedy a bit more, veered off and didn't stop. I didn't like SR3 all that much but 4 just hit the right cord passing the crazy zany into silly fun (plus it is a better superhero game than most superhero games)
