Wow...Seems that theme is something that is interesting for so many peeps...cool!

Urgent sidenote to eyeamrai!!! Please arange the crossing roads not that geometrical exact! Would be better to have a bit of odd angles there to look more organic and grown and done by not too good architects...

Viktor - thanks for pointing that out to me. It will look better and more fitting as something built by goblins that way. Plus it will take away some of my nerves about trying to get it all done perfectly!

Forgive me now! Tomorrow I may no longer feel guilty...

I try to work that way as often as possible... but I thought this would be more fitting looking and not too clinical...

Grim - Great idea, big fan of the 'unseen enemies' idea, should be fun. That might become an issue with trying to fit it all on the smaller board....but if you go for the larger board then obviously the time taken increases.....

vik - Nice start. I think Cam has the right kind of idea, the bridge is too small for a gatehouse with mechanism.

mekugi - Ruined overpass - a classic How recently has it been demolished...has nature had a chance to try and reclaim it?

EyeamRai - The crossroads seems the more interesting idea to me, and keeping at least one section 'open' means you can connect it to further terrain later on....

Nice to see plenty of interest in this one, going to be a fun ride

by the way... while camĀ“s idea is a very good one I have currently decided to go for a bridge design more like this:

Ooh nice...lots of interesting girder work to be had there

Still considering posing and display options for the Road To Nowhere at the moment. A few thoughts to follow....

As mentioned on my thread the current favourite for display is to add more striations and some tentacles (Yay! Tentacles!) to the road surface and use one of these as the basis for support, probably reaching down to some tentacles that are reaching up from the ground. Magnetic levitation was discussed as being by far the coolest idea, but due to my lack of room temperature super conductors that's not going to happen

vik did suggest hanging it via fishing line type wire, possibly in a frame for wall mounting....The dio really needs to able to be viewed from 360 degrees so wall mounting is out, but suspension is still a possibility...maybe a large over-reaching tentacle to hang from so it can spin.

Another thought was to use one, or possibly two, smaller interconnected moebius strips to support the main one....
Now I like the idea, but in my mind that would work far better if there were mini versions of the characters posed on the smaller versions too, and I really don't think I would get anywhere near completion if I went that route.

And then depending on what route I go I'll need to decide what kind of finish the road surface will get....semi-organic is the leading thought at the momet, but that may change...

As to the actual characters, my initial idea was for around 6-8 figures engaged in some kind of endless running battle (7 seems to be an ideal number to ensure there's interest from every angle). Then I started thinking about having multiple versions of 2 characters duelling, in various states of disrepair to show they're stuck in a loop of time as well as space.....
This didn't quite give the level of interaction I want, I'd like there to be interactions across various placements. So now I'm thinking of having 3 or 4 characters, with two versions of each, or possibly two sets of three with one character outside the loop....

Nice bridge Barnzie Good to see some different designs making their way into these bridges guys.

That's OK Theo, we only wanted a few kilometres of it anyway

Ok, so after much spinning of twisted plastic I think I've nailed four characters, each with two versions, and have rough poses and positioning sorted.......now to see if I can actually build them in the poses I want. Oh, and figure out who/what they are - two are CSMs, not sure about the other two yet....that may depend on what bits I can get into the poses

Ok Red I will join for this, as long as you consider a spaceship corridor as a road "that show how our little metal and plastic meeples get from point A to point B."

here is my floor plan for a Boarding action table, and hopefully I can build the whole thing in time for this competition.

@Barnzie4Moop is that 1/4"XPS that you are using? (5mm)

Sadly we 3 dimensional beings could never see the full effect of a 4 dimensional object. Don't think to hard about it. It makes the brain squirm in your cranium.

Good stuff. Keep it coming

Everytime I see your preliminary work and read what you are thinking about the moebius road I keep thinking Eldar Webway. Maybe a Harlequin or a Death Jester or Cypher running around there would work?

Roads are cool because they let you get your stuff from here to there pretty easy. Imagine a Big Mek. sitting underneath a burning apple tree thinking to himself "I really wanna go over dere and punch dat stoopid Grot wif dat stoopid grin onnits face but dats pretty far. Wish I could just make here...dere."
Inspiration struck! So did a couple spanners but that's another story. Here's the BlooPrints for....

Welcome. And of course, please do tell everyone here about your take on the theme. Sort of an introduction thing. Keltikhoa, you ninja, you A corridor is, of course, a covered road, among other things. Grimdork has them in his entry too, only his are underground instead of in space. This theme is about casting a wide net, to encourage creativity.

I suspect cloning technology. Or time travel. Maybe both.

Ah, well XPS is eXtruded PolyStyrene a.k.a foam board. I should have spelled it out before. Sorry 'bout the confusion. It looks appealing at any rate.

MagosBiff90: I'm going to say that [potentially] edible terrain certainly fits the rule of cool. One way to have destructible terrain in game

Hmm gencon preparations have derailed any early progress, but oh well, I'll 'git are dun' or whatever it is they used to say.

Toying with the idea of doing an all elf party, but I'll probably stick with the figures I picked originally.
