Just as an experiment, I just showed the picture of the mini to my partner, who knows next to nothing about 40k, and asked her what it was a model of.

Her answer was, “it’s a woman in a big hat”, she then claimed it reminded her a bit of Angelina Jolie. I thought that was a bit of a stretch, but she has a vivid imagination.

Yeah, I think GW are doing a great job generally at the moment on this front. The depictions of female troops in the Codex is really well done too, they're drawn with plenty of personality, but in-character for the faction and within the realms of plausibility of a relatively down-to-earth force. Anecdotally, and I'm sure it's been remarked upon elsewhere, I also see more photos and display models of black and brown troops among both loyal and traitor guard.

Stuff like that is great to open up and energise the hobby generally, but it also injects so much more life into a squad. IMHO, it's that little bit easier to see and play with them as individual characters rather than just a fancy dollar store bag of green Army Men.

I don't know why you guys are excited about a strong female model. All I see is a commissar with a female head.

At least Moerck and Gaunt had action in their poses, but sadly they are no longer available. Now, by the time she drops, the only ones we'll be able to get are in almost the exact same pose.

Personally, I liked Eisenhorn's sculpt as well as his rules, but right now, every special model they have released is either a generic, has a bad/similar sculpt or both. I can only hope I'm wrong by Black Library Weekend.

Be careful what you wish for. If the new SoB models tried sneaking in non-boobplate armour I think there would be a fan civil war

Dunno if it's just hype, but Element's pre order mail make it sound like they're expecting high demand and short supply.

I had trouble finding one, I was fortunate to find one online retailer who still had a couple in stock.

Chances are that like with the Eisenhorn mini from last year, it'll sell out in hours, but it will restock in due time and not be a limited release.

My FLGS was allocated 3 per location. Unless GW doesn't ship them (grr kill zone mechanicus) I'm looking forwards to building her and even trying to paint her.

Managed to get the day off myself so I can order it the moment it comes on-line along with the novel.

I wouldn't be surprised if the stores only get four or five on a first come, first serve basis and a jerk of the head towards the instore ordering terminal for those folks who miss out.

What I mean is specifically a GW store, and not an independent retailer who sells GW stuff.

Probably GW exclusive, with everybody else getting it next week.

I preordered through Element Games and they stress at a few different stages that they will not have stock for release:

PLEASE NOTE: Due to extremely limited availability worldwide, we will not be able to fulfil pre-orders for this product in time for its release date on the 23rd of February.

Yeah not sure what they were thinking about with that rule. A T3 W3 model with 4+ sv and no invun, will get squished every time before the rule even comes into effect. At least she's a cheap commissar for those that like the character from the novels.

I'd imagine most people that want to use this model will end up using it as a normal commissar (or even company commander etc)

For just three or so points more you can field her as a Lord Commissar, with superior stats, an invulnerable save, better pistol (plasma or relic bolt pistol) and a regular power sword with -3AP instead of her -1.

GW continues to write character rules for a different army. The Guard shoots. They don't run into close combat.

They need to start making characters whose combat abilities aren't diametrically opposed to the army they go in.

I'd forgive it if she was actually any good at melee, instead of having a weak stat line and a joke of a weapon. IG shoot a lot, but there are enough "charge in and stab" units/regiments that it's not hopeless on general principle. But a melee character that offers nothing to synergize with or buff the rest of the army and sucks at doing the one thing she's supposed to do? that nonsense, she's using the rules for a regular commissar.

Unfortunately I'm on 12 hr night shift, so was sleeping when this weeks pre-orders were put up. They weren't there at 7am, and I failed to stay awake until 10am, which is when they normally go up. First thing I've done after waking is look.... ALL GONE

Stock is limited everywhere. The store I visited today only got four models.

Local indie game store said their order wasn't filled, they got none in. My local gworkshop told me they got about 10 in, had sold 4 by the time I was in this morning.

Oh wow, not just the mini but the novel itself is also sold out as of right now, that does not happen often with new releases!

I find it hard to believe the book stocks are exhausted. At present it is only available as a pre order package WITH the miniature, so imagine they can't forefill that side of It.
