Thanks everyone for your comments!

Life was nasty and took almost all the hobby time from me for more than a month . Consequently no scouts and no scout car, yet. At least the latter is ready for paint, though.

The only progress on the project are two more finished troopies, which I already had built.

Tried out a kneeling pose on the first one. The second one pays homage to a 'real' alienhunter and is a must for the team.

She's never been mistaken for a man by the way. Have you?

Thanks, mate! The next one does not contain skin (because this time I was more careful with the superglue)

Please meet George, the scout car!

Just like it's bigger cousin Scrapper it's built mostly form literal thrash. WIPs are in the spoiler.

Spoiler:

Just like the Scrapper APC I started with papercraft and white glue soaked cardboard from a fish meal package.

The wheels are putty (and they actually turn). I used the mould I made for Scrapper to have more common design elements than just the fish meal package. The guards of the front wheels are from a broken water gun

Added spare plastic thrash... mini zip ties make great classic muzzle brakes.

For the design I started with a papercraft Halo Warthog file I found, which is quite obvious, but I also tried to add some other elements such as the wheels and the small window to make it fit better with the APC and give it a more armored look. As it is intended to be used in a very hostile environment it is closed (in contrast to the Halo Warthog) and instead of the gun operated by sniper bait it has an armored turret.

The turrets are interchangeable with the two turrets I made for the apc.

Left the new turret, right the smaller apc turret.

Size comparison of the scout car and the apc. The scout car is about the size of a 40k ridge runner (a little wider).

I don't know why I like this pic.

And here's the car with some of my troopies. I think I'd enjoy riding that. The name is a reference to the song 'George' by John Edmond, which I like. The song is a tribute to the black devils, the armoured car regiment during the bush war. George was a ferret, but the warthog as a basis is just so much more scifi.

In universe George has height adjustable wheels, so the crew (of 4) can go for a high speed mode with wide wheels and little ground clearance or for a rough terrain mode with maximum ground clearance and high climbing capabilities (the model can't do that, though... yet). It has flare/smoke dispensers, and using the standard turret it is armed with a twin smart rocket launcher, a rotary cannon and a larger caliper autocannon for smart ammo as the main gun.

Happy I found some time this week, the next ones will be stripped of hobbytime again. Thanks for looking.

I can't believe the geometry of the cuts to shape that complex hull out of essentially one cookie box- absolutely amazing. This, coming from the guy they won't let have a whole pair of scissors (I only get one sciz) so I don't run and hurt myself!

And as Youwashock mentioned, it is obviously part of the same organization as the rest of the hunters- fits in perfectly.

Truly nice work.

I think the trick was to cut off everything that did not look like a car.

Your Papercraft skills are seriously top notch but it's the paint job that's REALLY selling these vehicles. Increadible stuff. So impressive.

Thanks for the comments, guys! Much appreciated!

Thought I could not continue on the project due to time limitations, but it seems I can have a few days off (well mostly off) and maybe finish some minis I started throughout the year. This one is from May I guess. Time really flies...

Another Alienhunter girl (who had guessed that?). This time in caiman amor, so no abs to scare of xenomorphs.

She doesn't need abs to scare of xenos, that look she gives will be enough Great job finishing her!

Hehe. Thanks, Viterbi!

Finished some xenomorph warriors as seen in Aliens 2 (1986) today. Those are the Prodos sculpts for AvP 1st edition. Hope I'll find the time to paint the GF9 ones from 'Another glorious day in the corps' (don't add an 'e' at the end here) soon (read: at some point next year).

The warriors are supposed to be older xenomorph drones/infants. They have a ridged head and some elongated vertebrae on the tail. As far as I know they wanted a different design for the second movie and came up with this. The explanation that the ridge headed specimens are older (and wiser) came later.

I did a lot with them paintingwise, but it does not really show, especially on the photos.

The left one is a warrior, the right one a drone I painted long ago.

CC welcome!

Somewhat finished some patrol guns and their respective commanders.

WIP in spoiler.

Spoiler:

Had some pen parts left from the scratch built vehicles and built a leg. Since I also had some cheap can't-believe-it's-not-lego guns I tried to combine them.

The pen pieces with some guitar string and the fixtures of the wannabe-lego

These are the guns. They come as tripods, bought 20 for 13€. Can be found at Aliexpress and Amazon. The sellers and offers often change, though.

Multiplied the leg with oyumaru and putty, because I did not have enough pen parts for what I was trying.

I tried to give the commanders holo projections of their guns, which I cut from a transparent plastic package. Didn't like how it turned out and decided to add real guns... Kept the holos just in case.

Everyone knows the sentry guns the marines brought in Aliens (1986). They did an ok job, but I find walking guns might do a better job patrolling a perimeter, so I decided to build something I'd call patrol guns. Tripods are cool, but have you seen them walk? I did not dig that, so four leg crawlers it was.

Got various guns that can be mounted onto the chassis (see WIP). Of course they are posable for dramatic pics (not included) and the rotary cannons can rotate. They might also be usable in full scale battle operations.

One commander has a comm (with a video call from Carlita), the other a motion tracker.

Thanks for looking! CC always welcome.

Excellent work- really like the patrol gun platforms! I'm digging the hologram units for controlling them also. Perhaps the unit commanders could hold a tablet flat in their hand, with the holo projecting straight up from that? In any event, more than perfectly acceptable just as they are- what a great force you're putting together.

Those gun platforms are cool and their commanders great. Love the video comm and their plasma pistols, but I think you should revisit the hologram idea in the future, it's a cool concept.

Thanks a lot! At first I was thinking it should be projected out of the gauntlet, but I don't believe it clearly turned out to be a hologram of a patrol gun crawler, just some blues thing on two triangles. Might be clearer if it was on a tablet.

Thank you! Yeah, I will keep the hologram idea in mind. I love the idea, but the execution was lacking and I tried a number of different painting ideas for the holograms and liked none. Maybe one day I'll have a printer and can do them in transparent colored resin. I was also thinking to maybe make a command center, where I could better use the hologram idea.

In a sci fi setting I would rather expect combat info to be projected onto contact lenses (or directly into the brain), but that is hard to model. A starwars type of hologram could look good on a model, though.

Hope I get some more done before the end of the year. Cheers!

Finished another Alienhunter in caiman armor. She looks quite angry after so many months waiting to be painted.

And here's the 'squad' of (a little more) heavy troopies for the cheerleader effect. All in drab olive now to fit in with the rest of the bunch.

Also made another collage of faces I didn't include in the last one or finished later. Quite happy with 'em.

Thanks for looking. One more mini to finish this year and I'll call it done.

That’s it. 2020 is almost done and it’s time to briefly look back. For me it was a very stressful year, much too much work, almost seems my life-work-balance had the extended holidays I dearly needed. Consequently, I’ve hobbied much less than I would have liked to.

Started the Alienhunter girl gang in April/May and I have finished in 2020:
- 22 troopies
- 2 vehicles
- 4 walking guns
- 15 xenomorphs

Well, that’s not really much, but given the girls are almost exclusively putty and the vehicles are card board, there must have been more hobby time than I thought. And I am mostly happy how they turned out.

I usually don’t do new year resolutions, but if I would have one also with regard to the hobby, it would be to not rush things that much. Especially the paintjobs seem to get better, when I am more relaxed (what a surprise).

With regard to the Alienhunters, I am not sure where this will go. Got a lot of ideas such as a gaming board, jump troops, scouts, something with flamers, a flyer, a command center, a gym, many more aliens also of various franchises. I’d also like to add some background story… Much more than I can hope to do.

Last not least, this is Kat with her digital sword, she’s the last of the troopies for this year.

Spoiler:

Ok folks, thanks for looking and all the comments and gallery votes. See you next year and wishing you all a good and healthy start into 2021.

Cheers, Max

Cheers! Let's start with some boys

New year, new faction I guess. Some more kind of native Alienhunters, the Predators (also called Yautja by some). I think I have enough Predator minis around here to start an entire army (though I don't think Yautja do that) and started this year with painting these three young bloods from Prodos Avp second edition. They come in one piece with practically no mold lines... really impressive casting. Also td;dp (too much detail, didn't paint) .

What a lovely face.

He's actually trapped his foot under those pipes and skulls and is rather unamused.

Training for the olympics.

Look at all this stuff. Imagine trying NMM there.

These three are unconverted. For the next ones, I'll try to do a little more.
