I think it is a wonderful example. The choice of colours really works well. It's sharp and has so many points of detail you have lavished attention on. Good luck in the contest.

Very nice. Nice seeing the steps on the NMM on the bike, I find seeing those WIP types shots really help me understand the process better.

Thanks all. Now back to building, eh?

Added the roofing to the adobe building (finished building is shown as an example of what the roof will look like with the skylights &c)

Next is to finish the porch ceilings. Here is what they will look like,

And here is what they currently look like,

I realize that the detail will rarely be seen or even noticed, but, if I don't do it... well, you guys understand. It must be done.

Thanks for dropping by.

Phenomenal work as always, Red. And trust me, I totally understand the need to detail. It drives me nuts when I've missed something on a piece that other people are already drooling over. I think of it as the integrity of the art.

This terrain has blown my mind and put nearly every one of my own efforts to shame lol

White styrofoam covered in paper in particular is a fantastic idea. I've struggled with white foam forever, having to manually paint on a basecoat before spraying it so it doesn't melt is a real pain, and I tend to avoid foam as a result. Plus all those little pellets that come loose eventually! No longer! Thank you for the genius idea, I never would have thought of doing that!

By the foot of the Andes

Really outstanding work, adobe buildings, both finished and WIP ones, look ace.

Wood in the porch ceiling is amazing, as are the curved window casements?/frames?(Specific vocabulary is failing me at the mo!)

Great job on Penny too, hope it, (sorry, no, I'll stick with the she, too good a paintjob not to, ) hope she does well in the Comp.

Thanks All.

Now Littletower, why wind me up... Oh, wait. La miniatura is feminine in Spanish, so ella (she) is the subjective case pronoun. I see, you're just doing a word for word translation. Okay then. It would be window frame. Casement windows are those which have hinged frames so they open like doors (vertically generally, but also horizontally sometimes) The horizontal pieces separating the glass panes are transoms, and the vertical pieces are mullions. Now you know all about windows.

Some work on the skylights. Top one is done; the lower two, I am still debating the design. What you see is a mock up of what I think will be best.

Porchs are done

I hope to finish before the end of the month. The punch list is skylights, windows (maybe some casement windows? ) and doors-- do have some interesting ideas for those, and a few other details. I'm close, so maybe...

Thanks for stopping by.

Not where I should be

I like the top skylight, and the bottom ones are great, but they don't match which bothers me, not really sure why, because it does not matter, but it does.

Porch detailing is amazing and stolen, definately using that soon.

On the windows and doors. The bother I always have is working hinges that are to a scale. I can make a hinge, and I can make things open and shut, but often they are so out of scale it looks silly, which is fine in Camkierhi universe, but not in exquisite Redharvest universe. Could maybe try faux hinges and mount the windows and doors on pins top and bottom to rotate.

Anyway, your buildings are amazing and inspirational as always, and one day maybe I will pluck up the courage and do a whole building, instead of craters all the time.

Thanks Ruglud, and re: details-- I've learned to love a size 3 brush while painting the mini(s). Now I'll get a decent sable one, somewhere. HArdly a detail brush but as long as it holds the point, it works a charm for a lot of stuff.

Mymearan, tack. ( I think is the word)

Well Cam, I was not sure so I did the mock-up. I had a better idea shortly after posting the photos. I can think of 2 ways to make hinges in the proper scale, but oh, what a PITA they will be, and not very durable either. I'm still considering the doors for this building. I dislike the look of superwide single doors, but doing double doors all the time gets boring...

Here is the WIP of the skylights as they will be

I'm using one of those plastic CD/DVD cases for the 'glass'.

More soon.

Thanks for stopping by.

Gracias, Amigos. Skylights serve a purpose too. They allow units on the roof to shoot at units in the buildings, and serve as handles for lifting the roof. Form and function, gotta love it.

Skylights done, and vent almost done-- just needs some more paint.

The plumbing vents will have to wait until I figure out the interior layout. ( I should have done some floorplans when I started this building what ~18 months ago. Maybe I did. IDK.) Also waiting will be exterior wall details, like vents, &c. But Windows are next. You can see a few are blocked out already. Casement windows would be so cool on the half turret. I should give it a try. After them, the 2 doors. I have some cool ideas there.

...and until tomorrow night to meet my goal of finishing this building before the end of the month. Gonna be close.

Thanks for stopping by.

Can't believe you are still planning detail. I would part with a great deal to have a tabletop decorated with terrain of this calibre. It is beautiful.

More details!
Everywhere and anywhere, even on other details.
And especially where no one will ever see them again.

But "negative" space is also important. Larger, blank, areas help to make a model look less cluttered even though some areas may have a great deal of detail.
That's something GW could do with learning, now that I think about it...

More details!

Keep up the good work.

Games Workshop...l-l-l-learning? Hahahahaha...no.

But yeah, I could go crazy with details. The worry of durability keeps me in check though. Light fixtures, vents, all sorts of utility hook ups, trellises, planters, window planters... Things that would look great but break easily during transport or play Unless I make them, some at any rate, as scatter pieces.

 Archer wrote:

Dirty little secret Archer. You can build terrain of this caliber. No, I am not kidding. It is just a matter of patience and practice. It is all learned skill, nothing innate about it.

Windows. Unpainted though. Used clear glass this time. Explanation after the photos.

Now, white frames look nice, but check out my reference photo ( I do, in fact, steal ideas from Real Life. Try it sometime )

Blue frames will look even better. So, I used clear *glass* instead of the blue *glass* I've used on other projects. Those awnings would make nice details, come to think of it. Maybe next project. I hope to have everything finished tomorrow. Only the doors need completion-- intend to have some fun with those, and the windows need the paint. Then done, well, done-ish. (there is the matter of the interior. Fortunately the floors are not glued in place so I can remove them in order to work on them.)

Thanks for stopping by.

Uhm, okay.

Thanks, Insaniak.

Did not finish. Hobby time was interrupted by that bee-yotch, Real Life. Bummer.

This is where it stands.

The blue does look good. Goes nicely with the 'tiling' in the alcove. Of course, with clear windows, I'll need curtains or window blinds on the inside. Lol.

I need to put that mini on a shorter base too.

We'll have to see if you qualify for a mortgage first (No, I have no idea what that emoticon is supposed to mean.)

I'm calling it finished, pro tempore. Until the interior stuff is all sorted out anyways. Here we go...
First, someone asked how the roof was done. A close up.

Layers, strips of 110# paper. The vigas are cut from a bamboo skewer.
The doors, which could use a smidge more work, but after the interior stuff is sorted.

In scale, the doors are 88 inches high (41mm) Normal door height is 80 inches. That Reverend Healer is 38mm tall on a 3mm base. Reverend Healers are apparently very tall drinks of water..

Assorted views

And a top down view

Lesson learned here: Do not waste time with the cryovac styrofoam, since it does not like glue at all. A simple layer of 75# paper will do wonders with the white styrofoam found as packing material. Bamboo skewers can be made to work very well.

Now, I must paint some minis. I ordered the next Infinity book, and to get free shipping, I added some minis to the order, thus I need to paint at least that many infinity minis (7) before the book arrives so I do not fall even further behind . It is due to arrive in about six weeks. So I need to paint fast, at least fast for me. I think that Reverend Healer will be next, since it is close enough to being done that I should be able to finish it by this wee end. (Famous Last words, eh?)

Thanks for stopping by.
