Plenty of nice stuff there neil. Glad to hear you got yourself a bit of spending money too
The retro guard are looking nice so far, and what's that yarrick's standing on?
Nice to see you thinking about the game again, and nice pics of your game with Bailey - I'd forgotten about your drop-ship till I saw it in one of the shots.
Nice fluff and art as always.
For the next mini's you post we expect a 360 vid accompanied by sound.
@Monkey THANK YOU SO MUCH ! That is simply awesome ! It actually freaked me out quite a bit , really haunting the way you splice the pics together, like a horror movie..
I really dont know what to say , .. i guess i better break out the video editing suite . Its pretty cool seeing another interpretation of the audio .
so when is the next one out .. we demand a sequal .. in 3d..
how did you edit it ? with what software.
@Tipios and @ozymandias cheers guys , you better stick around we go 3d next
@ vik yup that vid is something i want to see more off^^ yep me too, i say now he has revealed this kinetic creativity we dont let him stop .. cyborks in 3d pleae monkey.

Subject: Re:Neil101's 40k Manufactorum Update cadian lucky 7's ,sound art ! and now video from a monkey
Heh, 3D cyborks is a little beyond my ability I think you'll find, that was just a few of your pics shoved into Windows Movie Maker, all I have available on my laptop.
I'd been toying with the idea of a fig-vid for a while, I might play with that a little more, get some more minis in there.
Oh, and what did you use for your audio? Software or synth?
if we are talking vids here.... with so many great minis around i demand you to make a movie like in the WW reviews you got in cinemas...with a yelling speaker...hard rolled "R"s and all the crappy pics that you got there... anyone kow how you achive these errors in ..possibly GIMP? that would be very apreciated...
note that this is just for showing and not that i am feeling related to the portrayed opinions in this vid...for all that i care the brownshirts got it way to easy in those days...
Wow, Neil, talk about feast and famine! So many nice things at once
I'm really impressed with the Yarrik conversion - finecast has been around for a while now, and I'm a little disappointed that people haven't been REALLY taking the models apart. He looks great, really good choice with the legs (or are they sculpted?)
The others from the squad (though your picture is tiiiny!) look good too - like you've got the character of the older models with the dynamism of the new ones! Do I spy some FW hazardous environment stuff in there? Ace use of the ancient HB!
I am also a big fan of bits like this:
"Whilst wearing the mask recite continually the Possession of Faith and the litany of protection ( Refer to Emperor's Benediction ) to ensure the seal remains intact. The Emperor protects."
Just so imperial - your technique for putting on the mask is to tighten straps A and B, then pray the damn thing works. And it's totally what you'd be doing in that situation anyway
Your ambient sound is fantastic too - really creepy. I'm writing a little bit of fluff at the moment about an unlucky jackal team exploring a vast underground storage facility. I played your little excerpt quite a few times for inspiration of vast industrial emptiness. I don't know what you've done, but it just seems really mechanical! hope that's what you were going for, anyway
Sorry if that's a all a bit bitty - just wanted to comment on all the new stuff! Great work, and keep it up! Great to see you producing again

Subject: Re:Neil101's 40k Manufactorum Update cadian lucky 7's ,sound art ! and now video from a monkey
Thanks all for the comments guys , really cool to see the sound stuff went down well , keeps me on my toes doing new stuff.
@Monkey thanks again for the vid , i have watched it several times now , hope to see the cybork version soon mate
@Vik Hey mate , unfortunately my video editing software , is now vaporware until i reinstall it , then achieving those errors is rather easy as they come as plugin filters , i think its possible to create an image in Photoshop or gimp at the same resolution as the vid then overlay it.
@scarper Hey mate , Glad you like the audio .. the mechanical sound you described was exactly what i had hoped for .. i think the blight drones would be quite mechanical and clanking beasts.
Yarrick still needs work but i am still very excited about this little project , the cadian lucky sevens or unlucky sevens have really captured my imagination , , i long to see them as they might appear in some Hollywood movie all dirty and disheveled during battle, they are as close as i will get to the old imperial army idea i think.
So been working on the Lucky seven Regimental command squad , I have played around with lots of permutations and i have settled i think for a five man squad , that should enable me to go to town on each model and really personalize them . i doubt this squad will be rules correct as i am going for a more artistic vibe rather than game ready.
I thought it would be cool to use at least two abhumans , and i opted for an Ogryn and a beastman, as they scream imperial army to me. i noticed though the newer ogryns use automatic shotgun ripper guns where as the old ones used a gun that resembled the autogun but bigger , i know this was also called a ripper gun , but is obviously not a shotgun , ?

that beastman looks cool, love the fur you GSed...
the standard bearer... why has he cloth or something else around his lasgun? poses are all very scenic! but for some resons the mini of the bearer doenst work for me as i cant really understand him...there seems to be some undecernible features around his head which makes it hard for me to picture what is what... maybe a better pic of his face head section?
the medic looks super cool and reminds me a lot of the vostroyan one ... that because i think the arms are from that one?^^
oh and i spotted a powerarmor bit on the beastmans back...will he be getting a backpack of some sort? as again for the standard bearer... i guess priming will sort some problems of my imagination^^
@Vik The standard bearer is my usual raggedy style, i wanted to recreate the imperial army , so i used a old lasgun , they used to have triangle banners on them, but i rehashed the idea in my own style.. the headress is just some toweling wrapped around his head under his helmet like in these pics
ah ok, i had thought that it is something like cloth underneath the helmet...didn´t know and hadn´t realized the old imps used to have small banners attached to their guns...ratger stange idea... but old style is old style and you can´t argue with that^^
New additions look sweet. You really have a knack for those ragged, flowing bits of material
Glad you liked the vid, I'm actually playing with another version of that one, it was the sound that inspired me, and I've not got anything else useful/inspiring to hand. Go make some more audio I ripped a few more pics from your gallery and did a bit of re-mixing on your file, so if anything comes of it, it's all your work
And now I need time to watch the rest of Kin Dza Dza too
Viktor von Domm wrote:didn´t know and hadn´t realized the old imps used to have small banners attached to their guns...ratger stange idea... but old style is old style and you can´t argue with that^^
True, don't get me wrong most didn't , its just the old plastic las gun was so long (like the old muskets i imagine was the look they were going for) that they looked a bit strange just by themselves , especially as they didn't come with a stock. I added a stock to the banner guy but because he was holding the gun single handed, i thought it looked over long , i enlarged the banner to compensate for this. But having said all that , I am not overly happy with him , i like the loose raggedy feel , but i think the pose isn't classic enough for a regimental HQ command squad. i think a less busy model would work better probably. Gonna look at the old banner guys again to try and capture that feeling. I appreciate the crits mate as i am pretty proud of the beastman as i think it looks quite a lot like the original packmaster and wouldn't want to drag the rest of the squad down , with a poor banner guy .
@monkey i actually made a tutorial this time fro the raggedy green stuff as a few people have mentioned how i achieve that effect. just dint have time to post it up last time.

Cool i shall start tinkering again , i was thinking of trying to get an orky sound next , as it could be used with your guys and GDCK at some point. think it might be tricky though without it sounding too silly tbh.
and for all those who don't know what kin dza dza is .. shame on you
also managed to prime he beastman before the weather changed for the worse.
so I have been thinking about board games space crusade and advanced space crusade/tyranid attack or space hulk to be precise, for a while i have wished that GW would reissue space crusade and its squeal, as i really liked its all in a box mentality, i think there is something about boarding actions in space that is eternally exciting.. in fact a game combining a tactical element like BFG and a boarding action would probably be my favorite thing tbh , A five man squad pf hard arses , either inquisitorial henchmen , dark eldar raiders , space marine tactical squads terminators , orky pirates even nids etc.. would all work very well in my opinion ,for small skirmish based battles , i a thinking of making a simple rule set for this idea , but my biggest stumbling block is the actual board .. I would prefer a simple all in a box affair that takes only minutes to set up , i think the simplicity is the key factor in what i like about this idea, no setting up that takes an age , just quick fun battles with exciting narratives . I suppose this is the game i would want to play with my boys in an ideal world. But i Know there are rule sets that cover this in the present 40k but i find it difficult to learn new rules , and i guess they are not narrative driven. Maybe i should just cherish the memories i have at playing the scouts vs nids, or imperial fist vs chaos dreadnought instead of trying to reinvent the wheel and do it all again.. then again there is that amazing sm assault pod on forge world now
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/CAESTUS-ASSAULT-RAM.html
That beastman is really nice, feels like a big improvement on the original. Is that part of a marine you've used as the chest plate?
I've wanted to do a beastman guard army for a while and that is very inspiring, I did have it down as a project in the long distant future but your making it get closer and closer....
The beastman looks great! The original is one of my favourite IG models (I can't believe you can't use them anymore D, and I genuinely feel like you've improved on it! An awesome homage, and some really nice incorporation of the marine parts. Plus some grade A fur sculpting!
The standard bearer is also ace! The flag looks brilliant and the posing is top notch. The head wrap is a nice idea, but I'm still unsure at the mo - I'm sure painting / a few more angles will bring me round to the idea though Really love all the true scale stuff you're throwing out at the mo
i see, too long for an undressed look... talking about the lasgun lol...
well i still think the baerer could be saved... something fishy is maybe the pose of both arms "highfiving" doulbehanded with full hands... mebe bring the gunarm down and the standard arm is high for morale...you cant have both...^^
the assault ram is a verrrry interesting pice for a starting position for a boardgame... of course with sufficient 3D aproach...like the starting field of the monopoly...potentially looming this idea....if it werent for the hefty price...
as for my criticism... i really know i couldn´t best you in a tight corner if my life would be hanging on a thread^^ but i see when something is good and when something could be better...doens´t make me a nice person, but thats just me.... but WHEN something IS good.... and believe me this thread is full of that stuff....then my laymen eye is directly conected to the typy fingers and lets everyone know...thats just two sides of the saim coin... the false penny that i am^^ peeps by the way that i don´t critizise i have deemed unworthy and not up to betterment... so feel privileged about me pouting about your work^^
mate you know i love your stuff^^
For the standard bearer how about just removing the bayonet and gun-banner? That might clean it up a bit, and reduce the length of the right side.
Heh, I know what you mean about an orky sound. I grabbed Audacity and the minimoog emulator, been playing around but nothing really works (of course I was never a genius at beat-creation and it's been many years since I've played about). I need to re-build some adio/visual clip libraries. I was thinking of just some background industrial and battle noises in the end.
@ GiraffeX Cheers Mate , yes the chest plate is from a chaos marine and the back ids from a space wolf , although i have changed the front now to a imperial Aquila as the emperor dictates the beast men are really nice , but they are rather small , i have lengthened mini considerably to make the heads look in proportion, although the space wolf heads suit them great at regular size did another one earlier but will post it when its out of the blue tack stage
@scarper thanks scarps.. I never owned one so its like a homage for me , i have really tried to up my game with this squad i am getting tired of rushing through the models and not really pushing myself. I consider this to be my attempt to improve and slow down phase i enjoyed making it so much i have decide to create the original three but a twist going from really feral to grim-dark , the pack master is in the middle
@Hey vik , that asault ram would look cool art scale with a bunch of heresy era troops jumping out the back into a space hulk. I have remoddled the standard bearer twice now and i am now satisfied with the pose , i think although the look was too busy before and the head too small. will post pics of the new pose when on to the green stuffing as it will probably change again before that
@monkey i did remove the bayonet , and it was an improvement but it was still too busy and not dramatic enough for a regimental bearer , more like a standard infantry guy tbh. so he is redone , much happier with the new pose , now i just need to replace the blue stuff with green
that mini moog is great fun, john carpenter did assault on precinct 13 with one i think and probably all his other synthy sounds but you will probably be better creating you own sounds, just grab the mike and get wailing i found gverb in audacity to be the most useful effect.
have you checked out
James Tenney
really proud of the work i am doing on these guys , i have never worked as diligently as i am on these five. i hope i can learn a few painting techniques so i can do them proud thanks for looking peeps!
like i said before i love this commisar conversion i'll probibly take the bases of it and expand apon it, also thats one of the best imperial beast man ive seen it looks exaclty like the classics just amped up you know

@rogue wolves Cheers mate its been a bit of a learning curves for me , patience is my worst enemy , every time i think i have finished i think no go back change something for the better , take your time still rushing through , by most peoples standards, but for me its an age would like to see what you do with yours when you do it
Aye up dakka. did a little more with the regimental standard , not happy with the right arm length and will make it shorter and better proportioned.
still some tidying up to do , but i think its a better pose now, especially given the importance of the regimental colours in the caddian 7th fluff
The ogre heads arrived today so i can start playing around with the ogryn now , well after i finish up the apothecary.
now that standard bearer me likes^^ the double handed hold to the banner is much more realistic! also i like how you yet again (?) used a wolven head? they seem to be so versatile in your hands!!!
the GS work is really something you have a hand for! the chestplate of the beastman is now a really cool version i like very much!
as for the music shown.... the remind me a bit of the music from planet of the apes.... the real thing and not the new versions...
this stuff back then creeped me out quite a lot.... which means it is a good choice...^^
@monkey thanks mate , i redid the flag bearers arm so its not as long now
@Tipios cheers mate , be warned the green stuff messes up your table doing that tut
@PDH Thanks Pete , gonna paint em up in muted blacks and greys with a hint of white and red i think . either that or faded camo green with orange
@VIk Cheers matey that vid me me smile from ear to ear, and yes that music is quite chilling.
update time .. still working on the HQ guys , but progress as slowed due to a pretty nasty chest infection , could be from chopping up that FW Ogryn without due care So i messed up the medic and might bin him , or do a different model maybe radio guy? but i am pretty happy with the ogryn .. not ecstatic but pleased , i think the head could have been better in hindsight , The ogryn's muscles are massive and i had to re sculpt a whole side of him from scratch. I opted for a twin drum barrel for his ripper . which turned out quite nice . Also redid the standards arm to make it shorter.
going for the not quite renegade ogryn look , but on the way there for sure . those nurglings can be pretty persuasive
painting next , think german ww2 meets killzone helghast , for these puppies .
