Any of you read Black Summer written by Warren Ellis and
drawn by Juan Jose Ryp?
I'm re-reading it, and it's the kind of work that you wish had been
more than a self-contained story, but you understand why it isn't.
Basically an enhanced vigilante kills the president and his former
teammates try to take him down. However, they are being hunted
as well. They reveal the enhancement process in a series of
flashbacks that shows you how the Seven Guns was put together.
Good stuff.

I read the first TPB and was quite dissapointed. The art looks like a water color painting and doesn't fit the atmosphere of either setting. The story takes way too long to get going and even when the Doctor reaches the Enterprise, it's not as fun as it should be.

It seems like Marvel's AR stuff is improving. I stoped using it when it just seemed to be showing me the pencils underneath but now it seems to have taken the place of those old-timey footnotes that said things like "See FF #217 -Helpful Bob".
All-New X-Men has been a page turner for me. Cyclops has truly changed, he has fully gone into The Magneto school of thought but can't admit it. Having the original X-Men around shows him and the readers that. We've seen lots of young superhero startup groups stories and Ultimate style rebooting stories but I haven't read something like this. It's like combo of the two. They've managed to keep all their continuity yet have a young fresh team but not of new no-name characters.
Meanwhile, also digging my Walking Dead and Invincible as usual. Automatically Appended Next Post: Ya, so of course right after I post how Marvel AR is pretty good now the time I use it Diamond Dallas Page tries to sell me Yoga.
What....the.....Feth?!?!?!?
Talk about a mixed bag...

X-Men sounds interesting. Can I assume that one can just jump into the new series, since it's a re-launch?

Well I would say it's the fallout of AvX both emotionally and storyline wise. That shows his downward spiral. However that's a bunch of comics so you could just click:

It's not so black and white, which is why I think I like it. There's a lot of names you could call Cyclops but simply evil is an oversimplification. Nonetheless he's become very unxavier like yet still thinks he's an X-Man.

Cyclops started getting darker back in Ages of Apocalypse (not to be confused with Age of Apocalypse) where Apocalypse gathered 'the twelve' with the intent to possess Nate Grey. Cyclops saved him, and became Apocalypse's host body. Cyclops' heroism clashed with Apocalypse's mind and both characters were temporarily lost and amnesiac, until Jean and Cable hunted him down and forcibly separated Apocalypse from Cyclops. Cyclops, however, retained a small piece of Apocalypse's personality, and that is what gave him his darker side. Also, Xavier was a clone. Who cares? The Shi'Ar cloned him once, they can do it again.

I think Cyclops began to go downhill when he cheated on Jean Grey with Emma Frosst. That's when I began to dislike him. He'd go on to make many questionable decisions afterwards and no doubt having Emma in his ear (well head) had something to do with that.

This also happened post-possession by Apocalypse. It's arguable how much is/was his fault, Apocalypse's influence, and Emma Frost's manipulation. Personally, I raise an eyebrow to him tossing aside the woman who risked her life to bring him back from the living death he was in, plus redheads are hotter than blondes...but it's also hard to keep going back to bed with a reanimated corpse. Maybe that caught up to him?

Just read two more issues of Court of Owls and it's still amazing. I think this might be my favourite Batman story since Hush. The way Batman is almost beaten and then gets a second wind and beats the crap out of Talon, smashing him through marble walls through sheer force of will. Wonderful. I'm totally buying a trade version once my brother and I are done with the story in the regular series.

Picked up Superior Spider-Man #1 and Thunderbolts #3.
I have to say that while I was sort of okay with the large amount of talking in thunderbolts #1&2, #3 sucks.
It's half advertising, and the only action scene lasts 2 panels, with the rest of it being exposition. They introduce a long standing character for no reason other than to make it so that the actual villain has a famous name, and you definitely know that it's a famous name, then kill of the character with him having said "muuhhh". I'm very tempted to stop buying it.
Superior Spider-Man on the other hand was very enjoyable, it added a new angle to the Spider-Man character, surprisingly it has more blood than thunderbolts, (that says more about how slow thunderbolts is than Spider-Man) and has some amusing villains.
Also to those who were predicting that Parker would return sooner or later (quite a big spoiler here, seriously don't read it if you don't like spoilers)

So, "Young Justice" is back with new episodes this morning.
I only found this out when it started 10 minutes ago.
"Young Justice" is over, and they're set up for the next arc. Definitely gonna be interesting.

Hey Manchu can you recommend me some Dredd comics?
I just watched the AWESOME new movie and have the urge to give the series another chance. I read a few a long time ago but was really turned off by the art so I never really gave it a fair go. I think the artwork has changed from what I read and considering your avatars I'm guessing your knowledgeable so I'd like to try again.
On Topic I just finished "Supergod" by Warren Ellis. Quality stuff IMO. Recommended if you're not burned out on the anti-hero genre, but appreciate a send-up.
Then again Transmetropolitan is my 2nd favorite comic ever so I am biased.

IDW is currently printing Judge Dredd comics and collections in the USA. Their first hardcover retrospective is a collection of Brian Bolland's work -- some good stuff in here and an excellent format. I had been buying the American reprint of the complete case files before 2000AD cut its deal with IDW, otherwise I'd he all over this. http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=14593&disp=table They've also got a book of new JD stories rolling and I think issue #1 came out last week. http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=14275 I can't review it because ... I haven't picked up my pulls from the past two weeks yet! Here's a review from someone without fan baggage. http://talkingcomicbooks.com/2012/11/judge-dredd-1-review/ If you want current JD stories otherwise, you'll need to find copies of 2000AD or Judge Dredd Megazine, which some US comic shops offer or can get for you. A direct sub is not very affordable. I had the Meg to my door for a year and honestly didn't enjoy it much. The magazine-style of both books somehow puts me off, which I'm sure will get British eyes around here rolling. The biggest problem was I didn't think the stories were very strong and the art was kind of flat save for one Judge Anderson story, which looked like something out of mid-90s Heavy Metal (minus bare titties).

They said his name as Virgil but he's not Static yet. But it does look like there was no problem with the license as some put out. I'm happy about that. I'm really curious as to any new characters that may be created too. I'm betting on the one kid becoming Apache Chief!
