Very rough blocking out of what will be the yellow. Everything else is going to be the black/dark red. I think you get the idea : )

No progress on painting unfortunately - the little I did made me quickly realise how knackered my brushes were, so I have some new ones on the way.
In the meantime, I thought I’d better keep the hobbying motor rolling so I decided to make up some Wraithguard I had, and just for funsies I have one of them a glaive (also because the axe looked a little silly and awkward). Still need to clean them up before undercoating.

As requested Nerdfest: layers 1-50+
Basecoated the ‘guards last night with orange, and started layering up to yellow this morning. Not as painful as I thought, even with crappy brushes. My next problem is that I’m down to the last scrapings in my pot of yellow, so we’ll just have to see how far I can stretch that!

That bright stallion kit bash is indeed brilliant - top notch work there!

Actually that orange looks pretty good just with the light grey primer there

Im a fan of the warlock on grav platform thats awesome love the blue head looks very alien. I just bought the rogue trader farseer from back in the day I might try something similar. The warlock with the green head doesn't work as well as the blue IMO because the green is quite dark. I think if the inside of the helmet was white and the outside was green it would look way better. The blue one however works extremely well as blue on both inside and outside.

I would say the paint jobs are good but you could take it to the next level with some different colours thrown in on some of the models that don't have colour variation, even though I know this is your style a couple models could do with another colour thrown in. Knee pads and little details in a different colour even something tiny just breaks up the colours makes the model look better IMO.

Good job on the fire dragons especially I think those look superb.

Call me Mr Crazy, and it might be social-isolation madness kicking in but I'm really liking the idea of getting hold of a Syll'Esske and turning it into an Eldar Avatar... really liking the stride pose and the robes, and in my maddened state I don't think there'd actually be all that much to do to turn it Avatary.
Get rid of the herald on the back thingy, obviously, but that'd be a relatively easy job, some filing to get rid of the rune on his forehead, other minor tweaks. Swap out the blade for the blade of a wraith lord and you've got a badass glaive. My initial thought would be to try and get hold of the Khaine head from the dark elves wagon kit, but having had a look at the photos (a bit hard to judge) but I think it might be a bit too big for a head swap. Greenstuff it into a conehead?

I agree with you actually, I like the idea of a Syll-eske Avatar. Actually contemplating making one for my DoK cause the stupid T-Pose on the wagon Avatar just drives me crazy.

As someone who did 3D modelling for animation seeing a model in a blatant T-Pose just looks like someone was too lazy to pose it before hitting the print button on the model.

Well, I like the idea. I don't like the fact that I didn't know that mini existed, and having looked it up I now have another need, plus some others ... Bloody GW releasing stuff when I'm not hobbying.

I think you might be able to get away with the Khaine head.

Finnan, I'd missed the fact you are based in Kent until now. Whereabouts? I grew up in Rainham/Medway and my parents lived there until they recently moved to Canterbury/Sturry.

If you are desperate for yellow I might be able to drop some off next time I take them their food shopping.

not going to be a Slaaneshi unit - going to convert him into an Avatar ; ) Started him today and he's coming along well : ) Just trying to do the head at the moment

Automatically Appended Next Post:
mini progress update on the 'Avatar' - which I have always thought to be one of the cooler concepts for the Eldar.

He's looking... pretty damn rad, I have to say. Not sure he's looking Eldary, but I think I'm okay with that. I'm mucked around with the blade back piece a bit and chopped the lower part off to be the horns/headpiece. Still progressing greenstuffing his head into a proper conehead, but it went faster than I thought (using liquid greenstuff as it dries nice and smooth).
Swapped out the blade of the axe for a wraithseer spear blade and put the big gem from the back piece on the end to balance it out.
Have to finish the back piece, the head and then stick on the topknot tomorrow.

Not entirely sure what he looks like. Badass - yes. Sylvaneth/Slaanesh/Eldar hybrid? Which I think I'm totally down for.
Pics tomorrow!
