I love your modelling and painting, inspirational!

Normally I do not criticise and just admire threads like this, but perhaps that's a little lazy so here it goes:

Things I would change:
More black armour on his back, perhaps the protrusions next to the central black spine would look good in black. Right now it looks like its cloth over the protrusions, not logical.
I don't really like the gold coloured weapons, they somehow clash with the other colours. I don't have a better colour to suggest though

I haven't finished looking through your thread, but the Craftworld Eldar look perfect for representing the old 2nd edition Ulthwe Craftworld before the orange details were changed to bone. I have been considering getting some Wasps and I guess some Corsairs to go with them, and trying to take a leaf out of your book on those gorgeous oranges, I might try to imitate the effect on this Borderlands 2 rocket launcher on my Corsair forces. http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130117170205/borderlands/images/9/90/2013-01-18_00004.jpg

I am intrigued by your heavy use of Charadon Granite, as I found it to be almost a "Swiss army knife" paint when painting my Rangers, as it gave their cloaks, weapons and flesh a more earthy tone to contrast with my slightly more clinical Craftworld units. I agree with what you said earlier about having a bit of leeway with rangers to make them stand out a bit from the rank and file.

I am amazed by your Scourges, I recently fell in love with the models when getting a squad to compete in a Kill team tornament (They proceeded to shoot all the angry possessed marines off the table barring one, and then bottled a leadership test and ran off the table, the filthy cowards! :-p ). I was considering a black membrane with fleshy highlights, but you've done so many tasty things with those wings, it's hard to decide what is more inspiring! On a similar note, the Magpie-like iridescence on the Harlequin is beautiful, that could be another way of painting Scourge wings. Argh! Decisions!

I would love to know how you control your paints when you thin them. I tend to find to find blending is a real pain with thinned paints. I'm always terrified that the paint won't cover and will look blotchy. I'll have to finish reading your thread for some tips.

Good to have you aboard Flame

Thanks for the positive comments, they're very much appreciated.
I like that rocket launcher - great colours, and I'm a sucker for organic-looking patterning. It's a cold yellow, so I don't know how you'd get that... maybe some white in the initial yellow mix? It might also be worth thinking about painting backwards - doing the yellow first and then adding the orange and the grey.

Gotta love Charadon Granite

Paint control = teeny tiny brushes. That way you can't overload the brush and swamp the area you're working on. If the paint's thin enough, and unevenness or blotches are pretty easy to correct.

which technique? Mostly I use glazing/layering to build up areas of soft colour... if that's what you want to look at, the last four to five pages will probably show you that

I'm taking a little break from the DEldar and doing some work on Irillyth - I wouldn't mind him being my single figure entry for 40k... if I decide to go to Games Day that is!
Usual method of thinning down the paint a lot and then lots and lots of layers, only this time just with white from the blue base.
I've also beefed up the gold work with the Vallejo Liquid Golds I got.
All I keep thinking when I'm working on him is 'Out of the ice'... the shots show the comparison between the based and washed side to the (almost) finished up to pure white side.

looking pretty sweet to far! I love the smooth transitions between the white and the blue

That detailed thigh-plate, is that modelled or freehand? Could not see this on the FW pics, the gun is blocking the view.

As Axl said, it's sculpted. It's a fairly detailed model, and pretty intimidating, but it's been a joy to paint so far

lol as I've said several times before, all it takes is thin paint, many layers, lots of patience, more than a touch of insanity and a teeny-tiny brush!

Just a little bit of work on the next DEldar - blocked in, and a couple of washes of black. I'm now realising what an awkward position she's in as I've had to go over several mistakes already! I still need to clean up a few areas of orange before I start highlighting.
This is actually version 2 - originally I had her pointy crotch-armour black-yellow-black, but it didn't look right and was too distracting. I was planning to have her loincloth the dark red, but as you can see, it's now going to be orange to tie into the yellow, and the crotch-armour is all black. Simpler, less fussy and cleaner. The plan is to keep the loincloth orange rather than yellow, just to throw another colour into the mix, but we'll see how it goes. The yellow and orange will also bounce very nicely off the blue on her base.

Damn GW! Is it wrong of me to be lusting after the eagles from the HElf sky-boat and the phoenixes? I vowed not to buy anything until Eldar or WElves came out... but as we all know my chums, I'm a weak, weak man!

thanks YL

... I managed to stay strong in GW this morning and didn't pre-order multiple HElf goodies. I am tempted with a couple of the phoenixes (cunning plan afoot...) and the boat for the Roc... we'll see. I need me some Eldar rumours with pics to convince me to spend my money on them instead!

I also had a flick though White Dwarf, just to get a decent look at the pictures of the birds, and my goodness it's rubbish. They give their products the hard sell, as is expected, but the hobbying and the painting 'guides' in particular are such poor quality! The 'guides' are so lacking in information, even I had to pretty much guess at what you were supposed to be doing, and I consider myself a fairly intelligent guy and a fairly good painter to boot.
I'm almost tempted to say that it's not worth the paper it's printed on, and coming from a graphic designer, that's damning indeed!
Needless to say, I didn't feel the need to actually purchase a copy...

The only thing that I've seen that might be legit in regards to Eldar, is a Farseer on sprue.

But I'm crossing my fingers that what the release will be excellent.

From what I hear, it's planning to be a HUGE release... I just want to see the pictures.
