SO, with the Necromunda bug going around, we've started a mini Necromunda campaign in our gaming group. It's given me the inspiration to FINALLY start the industrial terrain I've been meaning to do for years. I've been hoarding parts for gas tanks, pipes, etc for years. The plan is for an industrial plant useable in 40k or Necromunda. Chemical pipes, outlets, towers and storage tanks, and multilevel buildings made out of the Necromunda bulkheads but a bit more sturdy and useful for 40k.
I nabbed these chopped up bits of cardboard tubing from a theatre get-out years ago. They're going to make 12 huge chemical/gas towers, arranged into little groups. I cut them all to uniform heights and covered them with strips of thick cardboard.
They'll have side gantries at exactly 6" (for Necromunda catwalk compatibility), which I'm making from these Pegasus Hexagon kits - ridiculously useful (and cheap) terrain sets.
And to access these, I picked up these 6" wooden dowel ladders on eBay for almost nothing - they just push together (I'll glue them when the whole thing is put together).

Is that a handrail on the catwalks?
That's not very Necromunda.
Looking good Ian.

They're 1:35 scale, so a bit too big, but they look ok, actually. The little baggie says they're made by rjmodels, who seem to be a Polish model ship company, but I can find these ladders on their website...

Looking good Ian.
ONLY A FEW. For cover, of course. All of the high-up ones are handrail free...
------------------------
So, here's what I got done
- Topped off the ends of the tubes with poster caps - added a large flight base and one of my now obsolete old Arbites round shields as a hatch.
- Grouped them and glued them to cork bases with UHU glue.
- Added 15mm plumbing elbows to the bottoms for outlet pipes
- Coated the bases with artex/instant texture.
- Sprayed them with grey primer, then a thin coat of horrible sickly green.
- Separately, assembled the hexagon kits.
- Made support girders for them out of foam core
- Sprayed with black primer, then a messy coat of silver.
- Glued them together...
I also made this scatter terrain out of some old vitamin pots I've been hoarding for ages.
I'll finish the base coats tonight, then print out and attack some hazard signs tomorrow. Then, time to start WEATHERING...

To be honest, it's a bit surprising how much I've spent on materials, and I probably could have just bought an Imperial Sector or something, but hey - this is much more fun.. --------- So, here's some weathered and almost finished pieces. I just need to drybrush the grey base and put on some leaky green fluid, and I'm waiting until a load more pieces are done before I get to that... I downloaded a load of approriate Imperial posters off the interwebs... I've also started on the next batch - some long pipelines made from 2" thin tubes. They'll sit on these concrete posts - made from spare spacers you get in the Amera hill set. (Yes, I've been scavenging cork tiling from my last Necromunda reboot, since all those buildings are being remade eventually, anyway...) And lastly, mounted an Amera river set on cork and greyboard, ready to be a green chemical river, and attached an old plumping piece as the source...

Yes, you probably could have bought an Imperial Sector ™ and ended up with terrain that looks like...an Imperial Sector ™.
But, instead, you have awesome.

AGES SINCE UPDATE. So, in case anyone was wondering how the pipeline scenery worked out, it worked out like this!!
One whole board ready to go, with finished river of goop and fences and a few bits of scatter terrain.
Now, it's almost the end of the year and Panic and I have decided to try out using a KanBan board to keep us motivated. We both have lots of weird little jobs we really need to finish.
I've started on some dead, blasted forests and some wrecked vehicles (partially to clear out my bits boxes).
The forests are the Woodland Scenics medium tree armatures. They're a bit flat to start with
But with some twisting and pruning they start to look quite good.
I've then done some vehicle wrecks (made from bits and terrible eBay purchases) and mounted them on hardboard with the usual textured surface. Any bare plastic was liberally sprayed black and brown.

Thanks guys - here's the forests ready to go. They've been given a soft white spray and then a few washes to dull them back down again. Quite sparse to the base, but there should be enough room to put models in this way!
And a few more photos of the chemical river - they were originally the Amera rivers, attached to hardboard and with a outflow made from a plumbing fixture.
I used a few layers of watered down glue to give them a sheen, and unfortunately as it dried it warped some of them, so their height isn't perfect :(
The fences are wire mesh glued to doweling posts, with paper printed banners attached.
And finally, some vehicle wrecks!
We're gonna play a game tomorrow, so I'll take some photos of these in action!
