The other option, rather than the rather labour intensive sanding & washing, you could use an exterior car spray paint such as Coversall which is tar based. They generally smell rotten and are a bit thick at times but give a nice texture to scenery. Ive used them a few times for similar and they're great.

Ok, so this lot have has a bit of a wash first, so here are the new Bunkers and Trench Ends.
The Bunkers are two part - the top part was just a shell, so I've made some firing slits and filled the inside of the slits with milliput, to give the illusion of a thick wall. The added weight also helps them stay in place on the bottom part
The bunkers or the table edge were my only way of ending a trench, so I cut up one of the straight sections and made these 'trench ends' from balsa wood and polystyrene offcuts

Well, I've been using the white stuff, as it's really cheap. I bought an 8x4' sheet from the builder's merchants at the end of my road when i started making the table, and have used it for pretty much everything. I don't know it's exact density other than it's the 'white' kind.
The blue or pink stuff is apparently much denser and longer-lasting, but more expensive...

Amera list their US stockists here - http://www.amera.co.uk/stockists.php - it seems there are currently three to choose from. You can also mail-order direct from Amera. Although the vac-formed stuff is bulky it weighs hardly anything so shipping may be less than expected...

Right, so we've been using my Necromunda terrain at the Platinum Devil tournament, and I thought it was about time I sorted out some of the problems with it.
* It's pretty unstable, but I can't glue the buildings together as I don't have storage space.
* It doesn't have a defined 'area' for the purposes of area terrain rules.
First, I glued together the smaller pieces - the bits I can store easily. I then glued together the plastic components in their correct configurations - so 3x2-panel pieces for the triangular building, the whole top half of the 'lift' building, 4x3-panel pieces for the tall building. I used superglue for the panels and wood glue to attach the cardboard.
I then got out a pile of cork floor tiles, and cut them to the footprint of each building. I sprayed the edges yellow and black with strips of masking tape, and then covered the chevron areas and filled the whole tile in grey.
The tiles are self adhesive, and I was expecting them to warp. I thought that, in the case of warping, I could attach stiff board to the bottom, but the tiles didn't warp at all. Here's some pics - I still have the big ones left to do...

Massive necro - but it's a P&M blog so should be ok - I'm about to start work on the next batch of terrain anyway.
I just purchased some of the Amera craters and hills, and the whole of this lot is going to get a thorough overhaul.
I got rid of the polystyrene hills (donated to the Overlords club) since the Amera ones are stackable!

UPDATE!
My terrain is getting a bit old, and a bit hard to store. The grey sheet is simple, but hard to store, and since making a cave section for work, I've been thinking about redoing everything with more texture. In addition, the polystyrene hills are HUGE and hard to store, so I've ordered some hollow Amera versions, which should be easier.
I've started with cutting my 6x4 board into three 2x4 sections, and gathering my trench system. I'm planning to redo all of this in one batch, and then moving on to the hills, and then more 'real' terrain. I started by covering all of them with Wickes Instant Texture - basically a tub of premixed thick plaster/artex. It seems like the perfect texturing material, easy to work with and sculpt, and can be built up. It sets in about a day, to a very solid rocky surface.
I've masked off a section of one board to be a road, and I've sculpted track marks into other areas.
I've then mixed up some standard mid-grey wall paint with sand for texture and painted everything - the inside and outside of the trenches, and all boards.
Once this is dry, I've started work on the inside of the trenches. Instead of the old mid-brown and wash, I've painted the wood sections dark brown and then gone over every slat with Snakebite Leather. It took all night, and it's very quickly done, but it looks a hell of a lot better...
Lots of work for a day! I'll be carrying on tomorrow!

Excellent update, loving those trenches. Will have to see if anyone's stocking them at the next show I go to (most likely Salute 13).
Wickes is a great source of modelling materials - got a load of the pink foam from there (Space Board is the trade name I believe) - one day I may get round to making my next load of modular terrain boards, but for now I'll just have to gaze at yours

I know there are some Amera stockists at Salute, but I can't remember who - but their website is pretty good, and postage isn't very much on account of the lightness of the pieces!
-----
More progress. I've painted the roadway black and made a strip down the middle for a road marking. I then took all three boards to my basement and sprayed very light dustings of vairious grey shades all over them. It's quite dark down there, so it looks a bit splodgy in the photo - better in real life.
While these dried I broke a load of thin balsa wood into plank-length strips and started painting them the same colour as the trech walls. I'll use them to make floor planks for all the trenches, which should make their route stand out more in our battle reports, and stop the whole board being so grey.

Nice terrain! Cork tiles are good, do they fit into the necromunda bulkheads ok?
This stuff is cheap and good for wire mesh fences/ laddes/ grates etc:

I don't use the cork tiles as 'floors' - rather I use them as bases to mark out the areas of the buildings. Not sure what I'm going to do to them in this update.
I actually used some more of the cork tiling as bases for another part of the 'trech set' - some lengths of barbed wire - these are lengths of cork tile stuck to thin card, covered with texture and with matchsticks stuck in. I've also made some bigger ones as minefields. I'll paint them up once I get the trenches themselves finished.
----
And the trenches are well on their way. I laid the ground boards, and then covered with black ink and gloss varnish so that areas look sticky. I also raided my bits box for spare parts and stuck in some objects, buried in the mud.
I've almost finished the bunkers as well - put some Imperial Eagles on the bunker roofs and some debris in the interiors. Once the glue is dry, I'll drybrush the concrete and the trenches will be done! Then on to other 'supporting elements' like minefields, barbed wire, craters and tank traps. I might even dig out some old vehicles and make some blackened wrecks...

They'll be perfect for a WW2 Atlantic wall scenario that I'm planning - British commandos raiding a German coastal gun battery, with trench system..

Ruglud, great idea to preorder. Its tricky deciding how many of each piece to bring. what sold well at Salute was different to the big sellers when we were at Derby World wargames earlier this month, preorders help us. And Arbitorian thanks, look forward to pictures, much appreciated
