Z brush is a great tool. You did a great job on the 2 heads. Are yo planning to print these?

Maybe one day, it would have to be something really awesome though. I think I will know it when I see it type thing, but definitely won't spend 500+ on anything short of spectacular!

There are online services that will print things like your head on a high resolution commercial printer for a few dollars each: http://www.shapeways.com/search?q=28mm+head&type=product

I despise shapeways... everything I tried from them was like sandpaper in finish, it can't compare to photo resins... they say high res, but compared to what you or I would be used to as mini painters they are hideous. Ymmv, and maybe they drastically improved in the past couple of years, but 2 years ago it was terrible.

The difference between materials is huge. In my limited experience stuff in frosted ultra detail is definitely paintable, but you're a much better painter than I am, so I could understand if you were a lot more picky.

EDIT: My test prints (other people's models) from almost 5 years ago, I think they offer an even higher detail material now:

Yeah the frosted ultra is ok if you get big enough, still needs tons of sanding or crazy repeat primering though.

Compared to photo resin though, it really is basic. Photo resin comes out like a FW cast right off the bat, smooth as a babies bum with about 5X the resolution.

I am super picky definitely though, not gonna lie!

I recently got some Lamenters Shoulder pads in the clear resin. They look good though I haven't had a chance to paint them yet.

interesting figure holder.. What is it? Looks like the bar keeps you from smearing it accidentally?

The bar serves multiple purposes -

1. keep your greasy, cheetoh covered fingers off the model, preventing any paint-repelling build-up of finger oils

2. allow you to grip from all angles without impeding the brush

3. allow you to rest your brush on it, steadying it and reducing hand shake

Cheers, very pleased with the results on it... I hesitate to go too high contrast on robes always (don't like blending all the way to white, especially on low relief pleats for the most part) but I find they have ended being successful. Lots of blues and greys in the shades, lots of fluorescent pink and orangey flesh in the highlight -

Lovely work on the cultists. robes are just the right amount ofhighlight. no more no less! The figure holder thingys are a cracking idea. defintely gonna have to make a few m'self

Take a look at the KS for sure, really enjoying them!
