Seems like you had a great time Gits. Getting 4-5 turns in a Apoc game is impressive in that time span

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes

Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

I always miss getting to play in such massive games... Was my favorite way to spend a weekend. Lots of big toys

Looks like you had a blast, and the army looks great on the field! Impressive that someone had a FW Warlord... The scratchbuilt is a nice one too. Crazy to see the scale of them next to the Knights xD

LOVE the Chaos Warhound with all the freehand on it. Looks great! Props to that guy.

I love how for massive apoc games the question is not “Who won?” but “How many turns did you play?”

Not that this is a bad thing. The few Apoc games I played in were fun. But I think part of that is just the spectacle of the massive armies and cool toys being deployed. But the larger and more spectacular the armies, the longer it takes to get through the turns.

I’m sure there is a sweet spot of getting toys on the table vs. playability somewhere, although it’s going to be a very subjective point. But whatever points you play, it’s always fun to see well painted armies clash.

Indeed they are my friend. Caleb (CK Studio) even managed to finish painting my Tau'nar for me to demo it during the event. I've been the token Tau player throughout this year's Apoc campaign. Which is kind of funny given that it is the Damocles Campaign. The vast majority of the Shadow Sun's forces each game have been Eldar, Orcs, and occasionally Chaos mercenaries.

Each Apoc event is 4 game turns with 1 hour per team turn .

The rounds are timed, 1 hour per team's turn. Forces you to sometimes make choices and not shoot or move everything in favor of getting key things complete. Also investing points in bigger items like MC, tanks, Super Heavies & Gargantuan Creatures helps cut down on time to play. Also the event organizer uses 6th Edition D-Weapon Rules, which results in large amounts of models being removed quickly in the early turns.

Good call by your TO. It is a blast running all of the little guys but in the grand scheme of things its all about the big guys for sure. How did your Tau'nar fair in the game?

Given the long range destructive powers of the Warlord Titans, I didn't deploy him initially and he walked on turn 3. He cleared out 10 Terminators TH/SS + Chaplain threatening our backfield objectives & in turn 4 he blew up a brass scorpion that was contesting our midfield objective. He also drew 5 D-weapon shots from a Chaos Incursion's Warhound and Tower of Tzeech that might have otherwise targeted our units holding objectives.

My Farsight Bomb did more damage Turn 2, exploding a Reaver Titan the turn they dropped. The Reaver subsequently dropped on top of the squad destroying most of the members, with the survivors being later wiped out in the cataclysm of two exploding Warlords in Turns 2 & 3.

Got some more pics for you from the battle... apologize for the quality but these are right off my phone.

Beautiful Eldar models were there.

The Knights in the vanguard stare down a Chaos Reaver class titan that emerged from a warp rift.

The Mantis Warriors and Brotherhood of the Black Hand were occupying the right rear flank in order to prevent deep striking shenanigans, however they could not prevent the arrival of outflanking orks!

They could respond in-kind however.

My knights get swept by incoming fire from two titans and a chain of explosions caused by the destruction of the Warlord Titan in our rear. The Warlord probably resulted in the destruction of about 30% of our points (not only because of the Warlord's cost, but because of everything that died when it blew). The knights did manage to kill a single kroot though... so it wasn't a total loss.

As evening falls, most of the buildings lie in ruins (they're built so large sections can be removed to represent the fact that the building is now a ruin).

The Mantis Warrior siccaran venator continues to provide supporting fire from the rear, backed by a couple of squads of Vulcan's best.

In turn three, my two LR's filled with first company terminators came on and survived to turn 4. Alpha-group charged an Eldar command of seers on bikes.

They accounted for themselves well, through they were denied their ultimate prize by time running out!

The entire GK terminator squad died to fire and assault from the orks. The last two members (including the libby) being taken out in assault by a normal bunch of sluggas (not even a full squad).

On the Xenos side, they had their own issues with Chaos as well.

A giant Eldar flyer shows up and along with supporting fire from a number of units, destroys the second Warlord Titan... which in turn takes out most of the units we have left when it goes critical.

The Warlord's last moments...

Mantis Warrior & Allies notable accomplishments.
- my 4 knights managed to kill 1 kroot, that's it
- my venator did take out a Tau Riptide. Not a big contribution on an apoc scale, but still something. It also scored an objective at the end of the game worth 4 points.
- Shadowsword did manage to kill another superheavy with it's D weapon... unfortunately it was one of OUR knights (not one of mine though... so it still counts)
- termie assault of the jet seer council was very satisfying late-game
- best moment of the day... after being the sole surviving flyer, my little Storm Talon put the last hull point on the giant Eldar flyer during our last shooting phase, bringing it down!

According to wyomingfox, we lost something like 24 to 21... but the Xenos did burn a few victory points to bring an Eldar revenant titan back. While it was a fun battle, it was pretty one sided. Once the first Warlord blew, we were pretty much done, once the second blew there were only a few models left on the table for us. Luckily the chaos incursion across the middle of the board gave the Xenos guys something to do so they could have fun too.

It was more like 24-21 Tau victory. Most of the points were scored by blowing up super heavies/GC, for which most of ours were earned when the two Warlord's went Nova and creamed all of your guys knights and Super Tanks . We only burned one point to bring on a single Revenant on turn 3. We were going to bring back 2 on turn 3, but the Orcs got feisty and begun the shooting phase early, which stopped us from deep striking in Matt's. Somehow we still pulled off another downed Warlord without it though. With the two Warlord's gone, there was no point to bringing back the Revenants.

Your Sicarian tank also scored the midfield objective at the end of Round 2, which contributed 4 points to your side. That is a pretty big deal as the next closest unit would have been Aaron's Jetseer Squad.

OH-I Wanna get out of here

I wish we had any sort of Apocalypse games in my area. The only place that runs them runs them poorly. My Warhound has seen 1 game.

If you were playing with the ability to burn points for revives, why not bring back the first blown Warlord?

Apocalypse limits the amount of HP/wounds that can be brought back by expending a VP. I know it is less that 18 HP because you can't bring back a Reaver.

Ah. Where I played always just disallowed superheavy or above to come back. Revenants and Trans Ctan saw to that pretty quickly.

Unfortunately no one had any warhounds out, or we could have brought back those.

Didn't realize the venator actually contributed that much. It was a pretty low priority target (as is anything without D weapons) & just got lucky that with two chances to get aced by exploding Warlords it survived both. Too bad about nearly all the knights getting aced right away, we had 9 of them and it would have been pretty spectacular to see them all charge forward into the enemy lines. The Warlords are just awesome to see on the table, but in truth they're not all that effective (in my opinion, none of the Imperial Titans are). It's a shame really. Best bet is to put them in the front and run them like mad into your opposition and just wait for them to explode.

Wyfox's Tau are mind-blowingly beautiful. I wish I'd taken a photo of the whole group when it was set up on a staging table. Makes my stuff look bush-league for sure.

These games are really well run. The strict time limits are essential to actually getting enough turns in to make it feel like a real game. Normally there's a regular pot-luck that everyone contributes to, but because it was a finale for the year, one of the guys has a BBQ business and he catered the event. Good heavens it was good eats!

Well they were painted by Celeb Wissenback, a Crystal Brush winner. Not sure I agree about making yours look bush-league, especially when you get on top of them. They were mostly air brushed (most of his time is spent masking) and certain areas quickly picked out in spot colors without concern for touch-ups. It's stunning on the table, but if you get up on it you notice a lot of flaws. Then again, if he spent his time to clean these areas up, I would probably be broke and destitute as I pay him by the hour . His free hand is solid, wish I had his skills in that area.

Guess he changed the company name to Twisted Brush Studios

https://www.facebook.com/Twisted-Brush-Studios-541106512589810/?pnref=story

You must bring at least 1500 points to participate. Normally the organizer limits it to 5000 points per person + any number of extra points for superheavies/GC. That way you are at least somewhat limited to how many smaller fiddly stuff you bring. Completely open to any number of detachments, formations, or independent units. I placed most of my stuff in a single Hunter Contingent Detachment to try out the combined fire rule.

I brought 5k of my big stuff and/or easy to run stuff.

IG:
Shadowsword
Baneblade

AdMech:
4 knights

MW:
venator
2x LRs w/ tac marines
flyer formation

And for the GK:
LR w/ 5 termies + HQ
dread knight

What made it easy is that the knights & baneblade all died before I had to worry about how to run them & the MW land raiders didn't come on until half-way through the game, leaving me plenty of time to concentrate on the rest.

Next year we'll be doing Kestrel Novum... so I'll be doing a lot of really big ork stuff over the winter.

Stompa. A gargant would be on the scale of one of the Warlords.

Someone mentioned earlier the home-made warlord titan. That's not actually home made. There's a company that produces those. Foam core with plastic on the outside so both light weight and durable. It's quite nice actually, even on close inspection.

Why I love Imperial Guard Git, especially at high point games. So much you can do and easy to move around if they are Armored Companies or Mechanized.

Orks are fun as well especially Stompa heavy and a proper Deff Dread army!

Game looked like it was a blast. I miss high point games.
