What can I say, it's a beast?!
Rotate function dies again...
Going to get me another aerosol fix today, working in town so can swing by the purveyors of geek crack. Aiming to get primed by mid week, and lay down base colours before weekend. We'll see Springsteen gig tomorrow though, that's going to interfere

I saw him 3 yrs ago and it was a great night so pretty psyched. I really liked working on a dream, though I can take or leave wrecking ball.
I thought long and hard over coloured primer; in the end, I decided it was against my self imposed rules - admittedly I have since bought more black but it's the principle of the thing - only basic tools allowed.

Thanks Damo! The devil is in the detail, indeed. Parts wise it's standard torso, back, legs, claws and gk bare head variously cut down and hollowed out with mantic zombie torso, old old skeleton arm one side and a csm term arm (trimmed) on the other.
Local GW staffer tried to persuade me to enter this bad boy in armies on parade.
Hmm.
Hmm.
Could be a SoB motivator, actually...

For painting it Wilkinson's sells a bunch of cheap colour sprays Plastikote is pretty good stuff and acryli might mae this monstrosity more possible. I always feel Born in the USA needs the Thunderbirds as backing vocals. Listening to that track during Air Fete on RAF Mildenhall watching an F15 display team dance was one of those seminal moments.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Hehe - you guys are basically nutters...
So, it's now all brassed up:
Just a first pass, you understand. I said to Dan (#1 son, aged 5 1/2) did it look good and he said, "Hmm. Needs red Dad. On the lumpy bits."
He's absolutely right. I'd planned to do the "shards" obsidian but a glossed-up red is a much, much better idea. I'll still do obsidian for the teeth of the idol and the pit, I think, but I reckon the kid's on to something. I'm planning on using mechrite, red wash and quickshade - yay, more experiments. Anyway, hope this gives y'all a sense of it.
Ended up getting my primer from GW, got chatting (as you do) to the blue-shirt, conversion turns to how long I've been gaming.
GW-drone: Wow. You must be much older than you look.
Me: Thanks. I have a miniature of myself in the attic.
Gw-drone: ... (pause, looks puzzled)... Um... Did you sculpt it yourself?
*Sigh*
It has been suggested, also, that I use this for an Armies on Parade display. Tempted, possibly with my GKs (let's face it, I have some painted) or future SoB.
Thoughts? Anyone care to share their experience of AoP? Not usually my thing, but I'm a sucker for flattery.
BTW, nearly end of term - one week to go - comparatively normal service will resume then,

Lol graven what's it like having to put up with these uneducated savages! They don't even get obscure 19th century literary references these days. No culture. Actually I've never read any oscar wilde myself but I did read a book called Dorian by Will Self which is the totally sick and wrong 90s version. Instead of a painting it is a video art installation that gradually turns into a decrepit old junkie while Dorian just keeps on partying hard.

Oh, man! Next project, I want to see you make your own graven image! That would be fantastic! Aged beyond years, plenty of opportunity for weathering and open wound... The attic base would be really cool, too.
The Khorne temple is really coming along, btw. Better than I expected, tbh, though I'm surprised that I didn't simply trust your vision! Keep up the great work, my friend. Looking forward to the bloody red.

Thanks mate. It's a nice premise - army on a scenic base of equivalent size to rob tile, voted by store punters. Winner gets trophy and represents store at gd, and the store winners vote for their favourite. Although I do think it's amusing that according to the rules "no purchase is necessary"

Well I did make a (not very good) Ork version of myself. I do like the idea of a Graven image.
Anyway, here you go, oh ye of miniscule faith:
Bit rough around the edges, and rubbishy phone camera pic cos main one out of batteries. Still. I like the red very much, I think. Those banners are going to be the death of me - and that's when they're not falling off.
Hey ho, thanks for c&c y'all! I'm hoping for a good haul of birthday loot Monday, or at least an immolator to use as the basis for the next modular sob tank. Might treat myself to a chaos razorback or something too to make #4 (Not sure how to do exorcist #2, maybe haboc launchers in a razorback turret).
merrily we roll along,
