And now, some colour, because when I think asteroid in SW, I think of the one from empire...

Not quite! I think next it's going to be blue for the screens etc before start to block in more shades of grey on the buildings. Then I can start to move on to planning out other lights before moving onto the osl. I'm also going to try to avoid using any metals whatsoever - not right for aesthetic, be it wars or trek. Need also to streak the buildings with muck etc and, if I have time, make up the cards and templates etc. If I can get that done before deadline, I can think about having the ship sorted to go with it, but that's really just a wee extra.

now that looks already playable... even if i have read you two´s dialogue^^
and i think you need to do some hazard stripes here and there to the flight decks and so on... and maybe add some lights here and there too...

Well I wondered about that but it's not in keeping with either the Trek or Wars aesthetic. Still, there's rivets

 Gitsplitta wrote:

You're too kind sir

So my question now is, other than griming, streaking and staining, what else (if anything) should I do?

Having it built it all up to lighter tones, I'm actually now wondering about darkening it back down again...

Looks cool.

I feel it could just just a hint of a bright color. Something like green/red flight path markers, or a warning strobe. Just something to help break up the subdued tones. I know it’s supposed to be a gritty rock base, but that’s no reason not to have a little pizzaz somewhere.

Just a thought...

I think you need graffiti on it... somewhere that the "bosses" wouldn't see. Add a little inside-humor.

What an awesome progression. That's incredible. I agree with the other comments that maybe a slight touch of other colour might help, but if it doesn't take your fancy, I think that's pretty done. If you wanted to darken it again, is it worth using a wash. I think it looks good as it is though.

it was awesome when last i checked.... and i think the fitting term now is beautiful... itdoes look like a clone wars base... i like the brighter look to...er...everything... i have to say here is a whole new art in bright painting... if you add washes galore... it turns dark and subdued all on itself... but to make it look bright and not like a stupid kids toy... that is something that calls for envy and respect...

i agree also... some red or green or even yellow details would be good...

OK, OK, Good note, good note taken on board. I do like my wars grubby but trek shiny - need to find a middle ground.

Right gang. I've taken on board your recommendations, hope you like the results! Everything's had various washes (even got some coffee based staining in there, just for Magos ), more colour and osl. Hopefully by using coloured washes and shades (sepia, flesh, camoshade, earthshade, oil, and Italian coffee) there's a bit more depth and variety.
Hangar now has lights, both at the edges to guide ships in and a series if warning lights. Really glad to have got a functional use of sprue in too!

And with a HWK-290 for scale, being the most generically Sci fi ship at that scale.

I will try to get the shuttle done also, now that I have time assuming I get the cards etc done for this, that is.

I asked eldest what his favourite bit was. He said the escape pods :

Chuffed to bits that when asked why (bear in mind I hadn't told him what they were supposed to be) he said, "Because they look like the ones in A New Hope." Good lad the old man has taught you well...

I have so much 40k stuff still that I had to use some somewhere.

Every base has to have a readily accessible exhaust port to stick a proton torpedo up right?

I really like the colours on this side

I think as well you can really tell that the towers were printer cartridges here, despite accessorising. Also, remembered to drill the barrels!

It's the overhead where the colours become most apparent, I think :

Lots of light going on here, slightly concerned there's too much. Also, now I have to get 6 best angles to show all the detailing - eg inside the airlock - and get pics on black cloth.
I should add, tangentially, that it still smells of dough

So one last round of C&C folks? thanks for all your continuing support,
Graven

Love the look of it , I get the feel for what it's all meant to be. Great use of the deadzone pieces, they really work well for the silos and other building parts, even at a different scale. Needs a video intro like all the Star Wars movies .

looks stunning mate!
i hazard even to call it finished...
my favorite shot by the way is the fifth pic you sowed... the one with these red balls glowing there... dunno what bits it where... but that part now looks very good and convincing...in a star wars universe way...and i have to confess when pre primer times this looked not very meaningful to me... talk about a change of perspective once paint hits a model...!

and... you know its printer cartridges but if you don´t know... i doubt if they would be recognized...

The balance of subtle colour points and the asteroid colouring are well chosen. The asteroid looks uniform in that it's all the same bit of rock, but with the realistic seams of odd imperfection of the ore. The lights on the hanger enhanced that greatly. Well done. A big success

Thanks matey! I am liking to use of parts out of scale, it's fun and was one ofbthe key things the original wars modellers did - hopefully a fitting homage.

Thanks for all your support in this, particularly as a fellow competitor! (you too Viktor, obviously)! Been a really inspiring contest.

OK. Last question: for background, plain black, asteroid field or starfield?
