Something you can also try that can help with photos is to select the background to match the brightness of the mini': A dark mini' in front of a white background will end up looking too dark in a photo (in the same way, a light mini' in front of a dark background will look too light), and details can be lost.

Try a darker background (doesn't have to be black) with a dark mini', and use white (doesn't have to be white) for light mini's. Your camera will thank you for it.

Ta! I shall work on that.

Now first of all, a huge thanks to those of you that have started LOER'ing or mentioning it on your blogs - please keep plugging it!

In the mean time, to keep you keen, I've started work on the Adam West Batman:

This is a swine of a model to paint! That symbol is a total nightmare. But there we go (still need a shrugging Orkmoticon!) I emailed Knight about my Alfred with a pic, we'll see what happens, they seem very a pleasant bunch.

Hey ho, onwards we go,

Did you sent a pic of before or after your fix of Alfred? If the latter, then they'll double charge you...

While the Adam west batman is my least favorite version of him, and I even have the needed fond childhood memories of the show, I still congratulate you for the paintjob. Looks totally the part.

He looks perfectly kampy also watched as a child. Now you need to photoshop a pow, crash or bang on that pic. Or given his current age snap, crackle, or pop from the arthritis.

Kapow! Biff! Bash! Looking nice and retro!

The Damien Wayne version of Robin would make a suitably 60s-style companion for him with the right paintjob!

Small things-- like the bat symbol --are much easier to paint if you use a pair of reading glasses. Try the +2.00 and/or +3.00 ones. Gentle magnification. Just remember to take them off when you get up to move around.

That's some sad stuff. My hospital chain has a children's hospital here in St.Louis MO. The people who clean the windows outside the hospital dress up as Spider-Man, superman and other Heros to smile at the kids through the glass. They get a big kick out of it.

Thanks man. Having grown up with it, Adam West is still Batman to me It was a before pic, so here's hoping!

Thanks! And my thoughts exactly! Plus, at 50 points, he's a logical jump from a 300 crew to a 350.

Well, I might try a magnifier. My eyes are so bad (~-5.0) that suitable reading glasses do not exist. Very sad news, indeed. The humour and humanity that local cops showed when they first pulled him was supreme.

We do get that with the windows here. My wife used to work at a kids hospital (now part of the new giant super hospital that's known "affectionately" as the death star.

In other sad geek news, Yvonne Craig, the original tv batgirl (also Marta, the other orion female from original trek) has died. Sad times indeed.

Not much to report - played the Crisis variant of DC deckbuilding last night, mental, great co-op fun, and we lost with a turn to go against the anti-monitor brilliant stuff, highly recommended. Also watched a bit of Batman getting played so it's starting to make sense to me now (although there was much furious checking of rulebooks - very 40k in that regard )

Meantime, can I direct you to Dr H's excellent commission blog, where he's building me the tower for Gotham:

Cheers gang, next up from me will be finished Adam West (sigh) and back to street furniture and thence the cryo-vault!

It'll seem odd until you actually play, then it's very intuitive. Especially if you use dice directly as Action Counters, for the most part it's a case of picking up however many you're assigning to Attack/Defence/Movement and rolling them. The special abilities take a bit more learning, but when you're using half a dozen guys at most, again it's pretty fast to pick up. Keep the Bat-builder handy or simply make a list of the Counter costs for your crew's unique rules and you shouldn't be overwhelmed!

It's actually a really great game once you get the hang of it, and 'feels' just right for the setting/sources.

Good to see the Batman stuff. I have to admit I was put off by the lack of custom gangs. Fancied using some of my Dirz Mechanicus guys as a villain gang

It is an oath we honour. Thanks Paradigm. I definitely noticed that coloured dice rather than infinite counters seems to be the way to do things.
@ llamahead I know what you mean but you can use pretty much anything to be anything - all rules and stat cards are available for free, just count-as.

So, a bit of work:

Started my 6 street barriers and 1 big road block. There will be chipping! pleased so far, feels odd to be painting them blue though

Street Lights have begin. Much washing and glowing to follow.

And... Ka-POW!

Seems fitting to end on a 60s character today

Knight have mailed me to say yes, they see the problem with Alfred and are sending me a replacement. Now do I:
1) Decapitate my current one, and turn him into Red Hood (like I need another gang!)
2) Decapitate the new one, and ditto.
3) Keep him and try to trade him for something else (he is a promo, after all, though somehow that seems a bit cheeky)

Another question, about the cryo-vault. Just now it stands to be square and single-story. I have enough bits to make it either 1/3 deeper or add another half story. A half story adds more play-fun, but would it make any kind of sense, do you think?
Ah, questions. Riddle me this, and so forth...

Adam looks good! Nice basing too!

As for terrain, I think you should go for whichever setup gives most perches/hiding spots/places to fight on ect. The game can be very interactive in how the terrain impacts your play, so anything that adds to that is good.

I have no clue about set-up, since I don't know the rules. Yet. I am hearing all sorts of good things about this game. Curiousity piqued.

I like the streetlights. And you've reminded me I need to make some of my own.

The reading glasses actually act as magnifying lenses for this sort of thing, so, even with your eyesight, they should work. Try a pair of off the shelf reading glasses. There are those binocular magnifiers too, but I find those uncomfortable and not very convenient to use. The reading glasses really help me.

Sad news indeed about Yvonne Craig. I enjoyed the TV series much more than the movie. ( with Michael Keaton). Never bothered with any of the subsequent films.

Nice start to the terrain.

Good job on Adam West

I would wait and see how the new Alfred compares to your repaired Alfred. If new Alfred is significantly better than repaired Alfred, then use him as Alfred and find a new job for repaired Alfred. Although it would be a shame to chop off a head that you worked hard to repair.
If new Alfred is not much different to repaired Alfred, then there's little point in replacing repaired Alfred with new Alfred in the role of Alfred. Then, new Alfred needs a new job, and while it is a bit odd to get a replacement Alfred and then continue to use repaired Alfred, if there's little improvement over your repair work, then consider it a free mini' to pay you for your effort in repairing Alfred. Therefore you can do what you like with new Alfred, be that trade him or chop him.

I hope that is clear, Alfred.

As it stands what other terrain do you have that is over a single story, other than a 3 story tower?
If height and climbing is important, you should have something to climb.

A quick note on terrain height, while I think about it. There are basically three 'height brackets' for the game in practice.

Objects up to 5-6 cm high, pretty much anyone can climb, if they set their mind to it. Objects/levels about 7-12 cm high are only really being climbed by models with Climbing Shoes or similar, which mostly have to be bought as upgrades rather than coming stock. Anything above that and under 30cm is into Batclawing territory, which are again rare outside of upgrades or Bat crews.

Obviously, you want a mix, but too much mid/tall stuff is going to make batclaws very powerful. Just something to bear in mind.

I'd say option 3. The work you've done on repairing his face is great and it would be tragic to destroy that. If they didn't ask for the old one back then your free to do with it as you please, and the new one is compensation for time and trouble. It's not like you photoshopped the pic to get an extra promo.

I've just bought the boys the Keaton movies as a box set. 4 for £10, should keep them quiet, though they love the Adam West movie. I'll try the reading glasses trick.

Yes Alfred, will do Alfred I think having a higher piece will be good, also, because if I can get it at 30cm from the top of it to a point on the tower, you can bat zip line between them

So, more works:

The low barricades impede melee only. The big one however will block a road well.

Got to have street lights! It's dark out there at knight

Some more solid obstacles, LexCorp and Wayne Enterprises crates.

Definitely got my money's worth out those free deadzone scenery sprues

Oh, yeah, big new mini.

It's pink. And coming in February.

Well, the collector in me is pleased now to have the set of Offspring, at least. It's hard to pick them up on eBay.
