Watched Batman 89 with the kids the other night so excited to be getting DrH's amazing bell tower, and it galvanised me into doing some more on the deco frontage. I hadn't really appreciated how like the shrine the front of Gotham cathedral is - or rather, that gw had clearly modelled it on the Burton.
So anyway, with that in mind, the building continues.
Encouragingly, without even being told, the 7 year old saw it and said "that looks like the church from Batman". "But it needs the bell tower."
As a rescue project, it's going to have niggles, but given that it's a ruin a few cracks only add character, right?
Ensuring the floors are strong enough to support metal minis is going to require some creative thinking. I suspect deadzone rails will come into use once more!
I plan to extend the lower floor out to double depth, so there's not as far too fall - still a potentially dangerous fall, though not guaranteed lethal.
Also, the first mausoleum is done:
Abandoned the scaffolding. Happy as it is the wrecked one is in for a prime just now as is the vault.
Got my replacement Alfred. Very impressed with their customer service. Now debating whether to decapitate him...
Cheers,
Graven

 No takers? validate me dakka!
Anyway, more on the interior floor sections:
This gives is a range of points of access, vantage points, levels etc. I still have some concerns about how much weight it can support but there are beams etc in place. Getting there. I've tried to create the sense of something large collapsing through it, which I think is there, with the sloped floor giving logical access to the level above. Need to make door lintels and get doors on, and then get on to gargoyles, drain pipes and other exterior features again. Keen to get the build finished this week as the LOER contest is nearly done so I'll be building prizes for that!
Talking of building, got the next 2 bats figs built :
Tbh, aside from some upside-down drying, firefly was a much easier build than Nightwing, who needed his neck trimmed and arms very delicately handled. Still, lovely toys. Going to have a lot more brick litter for firefly, but I really love the new semi-scenic plastic bases from Knight. Nightwing will likely get some cathedral off cuts to things together. Colour wise, Nightwing will be standard black/blue. Firefly I think I'm going to tend towards dark browns with yellow accents, muted smoky tones rather than too Wasp-y.
Confession time - I have a K-Wing that I haven't even touched yet! Ah, the perils of new game distraction. Actually, it's partly because I'm loving having more substantial projects to work on, but also it's nice to know that I have something that I can do quite quickly if I'm in the mood to do so.
Anyway, until the future!

The Cathedral looks spot on matey, great idea for the broken down flooring forming an access.
On supporting the floors, arched buttresses bud, very gothic, will look in keeping and easy enough to make.
I am a little amused nad confused by why you want to lob of Alfreds head?
All looking great bud.

Thanks bud. Yeah, buttresses may be coming. As for Alfred, it's the replacement one I got from Knight. I may in fact just him to a mate as a means to corrupt him into the game

the mausoleum looks amazing!!! first read at the mobile and forgot to comment... argh^^
the scheme is fantastic, has that sad looking vibe to iit that is so typical with all batman stories...seems in the batman universe all hope is gone.
the cathedral is developing, at the first inner pic i was worried the floor was too narrow...but you solved it in building it further!
where i have my difficulties with is the barred up windows...that is suggesting it has been taken over by bums and so on...
also...off with his head and make some more awesome models by yourself!
and curiously i had t look up firefly...never run across that character...and mind you i read quite a lot of the old batman comics by byrne too...

Yeah, pillars and buttresses for the floor. Both are used extensively in churches and cathedrals.
Surely, Firefly should have burnt wood on his base, not bricks...?

The thing is his hover base is a chimney, so I reckon a ruined one fits. Burnt wood will feature.
I realise I forgot to post the state of the exterior:
And the other side of the mausoleum.
Some form of buttressing will follow.

I never heard of firefly either, or copperhead, but I'm a marvel nut not that big on DC. That's probably why I've been able to stay away from the game so far, even with you and Para both doing great paint jobs and bringing the excitement.
As for John Byrne... He is my all time favorite writer/artist of comic books. Might be because we have the same birthday , he just has a few years on me. If you never read his Next Men series it was a good read. Unfortunately I dropped out of comics before I got married and then heard Byrne had continued/picked the series up again later but was unable to find copies anywhere. He also has written some books as well, I'm not that big on paperbacks, but his stories in it were pretty good.

Stand by... They already do a Marvel line in 35mm (not to mention the mind-blowing 70mm ones, make sure you're sitting down or the large scale Iron Man will floor you!) and there is a Marvel/ DC Supers crossover game in the works...
That and some Marvel guys they do could easily be counts-as'd into the Batman game. I'm still considering a Spidey (Miller Batman), Daredevil (Nightwing) and Punisher (Red Hood) team at some point in the future.

So, first of all, my little bit over at bigcomicpage.com, Geeking Out, has attracted the attention of Knight miniatures, who are delightfully going to send me "a couple of starters" to review
And so might as well get on with some stuff!
The basic idea for "Ivy's" Mausoleum:
Out the roof as well. yay/nay?
Possible gargoyles for the cathedral?
Quite nurgling ish. Not sure.
And... what's this?
Win internet cookies! Guess now! It's a... riddle

Not a clue. I'd wager Joker though, as that's going to have a degree of mass appeal. Dunno about a Bat but you'd think one of Brucie.
