Sounds good, so will these Missionaries be cannon fodder for a certain Dark Apostle?

LDD - Its a great head. Its been out for what 15 to 18 years and it still standing up strong next to newer models. I didn't realise until recently that he has a capitol i shaved into the back of his head, such a great touch. Brian Nelson I salute you.

I didn't take any other pre paint shots so I will have to show you the autogun when he is finished. Hopefully that will be later today or tomorrow.

MoD - Lets not talk about the Dark Apostle.....I hate painting space marines! Every few years I forget and end up trying to paint one. These guys are in no way related to the Yggdrassillium Word Bearer project. I am sure I will finish the Word Bearers at some point though.

Looking forward to seeing these missionaries completed and whatever else is associated with them.

If it makes you feel any better Word Bearers allow you with a degree of painting freedom because of the way the Legion was split into chapters/sects.

PIP, taken on my phone. He still needs some weathering and most importantly a coat of Purity Seal to evens out/blends the highlights.

Going for something a little different with the bases on this group so will do all of them together at the end (by the end of January).

LDD - I hope you like the angles. The single shot grenade launcher is made from a short GK teleport spike, the rivets from two auto launchers and a knobbly bit off a storm troopers backpack.

MoD - its not the colour scheme its simple painting armour. Its so dull.

Casey's Law - Thanks. Ah let those claws take root!

Dreadclaw - Cheers. Its a dodgy shot but looks ok in the dakka gallery.

Thanks for the pics and looking great so far you really have exposed the I on his head nicely, also love the colour scheme overall a real mish mash of equipment just love it.

Also forgot to say the head has a more darker killer vibe now amazing considering how it used to look on the priests body.

Looking really nice PDH. Really like the way you did the skin tone, especially the shadows around the face.

Hmm... Could I bother you for a recipe for this black armour, please?

I like him a lot. The face is really striking, looks hard as nails.

Love all the little details. I think the little Elysian pad really makes him stand out.

Reminds me a little of Neil Blomkamp films with the orange.

Makes me think I need to get the finger out and actually paint my Tau Mercs.

OK? It looks fantastic! As part of a missionary team will you be adding any religious artifacts to him, or would that be at odds with his background?

LDD - Cheers. Glad the mismatch of equipment works. Its always a worry when overloading miniatures. The priests in 40k are some of the biggest killers going! I always thought that head had a desperado vibe to it.

Casey's Law - Thanks. The armour on the Governor was painted like this:

1. Base Coat of Chainmail
2. Wash all the armour in thinned Black Ink. May have done a couple of coats but cannot really remember
3. Highlight the edges with Chainmail
4. Very delicate highlights of Mithril Silver

GiraffeX - Alas I think some of those shadows are from the placement of my modelling light while taking the quick snap.

Neil - The Corpse Cart kit is a right stunner.

MoD - The orange shoulder pad is a homage to the Storm Troopers on Tatooine

Go on paint your Mercs!

Dreadclaw - This chap is employed as a scout, it is very clearly stated in his contact of employment. He is in no way shape or form being employed as a guard etc . The missionary leader does not want to defy the decree passive. This chap only employed by the church on an ad-hoc basis so wont be getting any artefacts.

Thank you very much! You know, I thought your had done that the opposite way around but I see it now. It looked like you had maybe painted it black then highlighted and weathered in various silver metals. Were you aiming for a chipped/weathered paint look and would you do it this way again? And since you are stressing the importance of ink, do you mean the old GW stuff or the type of thing you'd buy for a fountain pen?

Thanks again.

Yes I know what you mean when I try the heavy load out it looks ridiculous however you seem to have created a good balance of making it look like it all belongs.

Great work as usual Peter! That's a nice little group you've started there, and the paint so far is lovely, really like the look of the skin against the blue tones.

And excellent work with the head swap, that's still one of my favourite heads - and the one that keeps reminding me I need to get a jeweller's saw, as the last time I tried a transplant using just my trusty blade....well, let's just say it wasn't really useable afterwards........

Almost finished Missionary Priests. Again waiting to base the entire group together and add some more weather etc then.

Casey's Law - No worries. Sorry for the late reply on your question...I mean old GW stuff. Though I am sure Windsor and Newton ink would do too.

LDD - Not sure my latest addition to this group has the right balance of equipment...well he is carrying a small lockbox/safe on his back. Hopefully have some pictures tonight.

Monkey - Thanks man.My advice to save the head is just cut into the neck/torso and repair the damage. Ah good old dictionary crime....I really should be arrested :-)

Now its time for some Scooby Doo shots....

So inspired by madmartykmf's blog http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/2310/259854.page (and his Ogryns) I bought a box of Ogryns a few weeks ago. It was disappointing to open the box and see that they are really characterless and the tank tread armour looks lazy...so I had fun making him a little more unique. Having him armed with a ripper gun and wearing armour was a royal pain in the arse.

Great looking minis! The ogryn is brilliant, so much character. How did you made the hose?
The "shoulder pad" is also great. Is it taken from a tank?

Boba - Cheers. The hose on the Ogryn is made using a tentacle maker. Great tool that you can pick up from Green Stuff Industries: http://www.greenstuffindustries.com/store/c1/Featured_Products.html

The shoulder pad is not from a tank per-se but an Ork Dread..

I don't post very often, but this thread is really inspiring. Great use of bits and imagination to put them together! The Ogryn in particular is top notch (they could have made combining ripper guns and armour a little easier though!).

A few years ago I picked up an Ar-Ulric model dirt cheap from a little model shop in Portsmouth.

I have finally gotten round to converting him up into a 40k missionary. I tired giving him a death korp shotgun but couldn't get it to work at all. So as a rare treat I went with a Bolt Pistol, these relics shouldn't be used willy nilly. I see him gesticulating wildly with this symbol of the Imperium mid sermon.

A good thing about taking pictures of models is I can see some bits of plastic that need a bit of a tidy up in them.

So at least he is finished before my beloved returns tomorrow....as in I can clear the pile 'o' sprues from the living room floor. Or I would have been in for a

02Laney - Thank you. Yeah it would have been nice if GW had been able to give them armour but I they would have needed to sculpt totally separate sets of armour for rippers and mauls.

Absolutely love that Ogryn.

I've been wanting to do a conversion like that to fit them in with my Steel Legion. The only thing stopping me is the price tag on new Ogyns, lol

I'm sure eventually I'll pick some up. Your figure actually looks a lot like what I had in my head, using the Bullgryn torsos with the lower treads shaved off, but with ripper guns and the gasmask heads.

For now though, it looks like the next projects when I get settled in my new place will be some xeno-heresy.
