Yes and no. It's a good idea in theory, but I also don't want to be giving the impression that "These are the official public mob farms, none of the others are/don't bother making one yourself". People shouldn't be dissuaded from playing around with a fun build just because one already exists.
Have it more of a community thing than some darkinnit decree. I think it's better if people make clear signs & directions in game. If a path to some public spawner is complicated or convoluted, simplify it. If people don't know about some public spawner, put up some "advertising" signs
Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

"You need not fear us, unless you are a dark heart, a vile one who preys on the innocent; I promise, you can’t hide forever in the empty darkness, for we will hunt you down like the animals you are, and pull you into the very bowels of hell." Iron - Within Temptation

I swear I think those two have a hate-crush on each other sometimes.
I have a problem. I've been trying to figure it out myself for a few days and I'm coming up blank.
I've made a automatic cobblestone generator and everything works fine for the most part. Only problem is after the generator cycles for a little bit of time the piston "locks" itself. It glitches and has a second "piston" bit appear and it locks open and doesn't work. I'm not sure if I wired things wrong or what. Anyone had something like this before?

@ DA's- that does sometimes happen on multiplayer servers- something about the cycle time of the gen getting clogged up with the server lag (because everything you do has to go to the server, then get processed, then come back to you- depending on your internet speed, the server load and your own computer's processor speed, this can cause issues.)
non-piston cobble gens have similar issues, with the lava or water updating before the other and causing trouble.
GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

We can use this guide here for building a good mob grinder. It works automatically, so all users have to do is turn it on with one switch and collect resources.
I can allow use of my land for it, and I can setup facilities such as a mine and factory for crafting any needed items.
I think this is a great idea.
As a discussion grows in length, the probability of a comparison to Matt Ward or Gray Knights approaches one.

Thanks Anvil. The Lag sounds like a likely culprit as it seems to happen a lot less when I am offline. It also does it often when I use my kill switch for the system. It seems to affect it somehow but I dont know why it would cause that to happen.

You want to get to Ma55terfett's? There's a route from 0,0 in the nether as I recall, however its still quite a walk even there. If you can't find it in the nether I suggest you just keep moving in its general direction and come out at whichever portal you think is closest then walk. However other than to look at his home the only reason you'd want to go there would be the Blaze grinder. Wanting to make Ender Chests or something?
There is a nether portal located at x=369 z=436
There is no path there from the 0,0 hub so finding it is up to you. You can make a tunnel from the 0,0 portal if you wish or you can walk overworld.
there is a bit of a walk over to the grinder so I wouldn't go at night.
There are two dirt structures around the mob grinder, they have a chest, a bed, a workbench, and 2 furnaces, as well as 64 torches located in the chest. You are free to use these two dirt buildings for temporary storage or rest.
You are not welcome in my house or village without an invitation from myself.
You are not welcome to anything in any of my chests.
Please do not build anything and if you chop down a tree then plant a sapling to replace it.
You can keep whatever you get from the grinder, its a little slow so I usually afk and watch movies while I'm collecting stuff.
I've heard Minecraft compared to hard drugs... dont get it unless you have spare time and will power to stop when you need to . The game is basic in the sense its blocky and cartoony but the sheer size and scale makes up for it- you can literally make anything you want- your imagination is the limit!
I just helped my brother make a castle with a harbour/port and a huge galleon/ship- took ages but from a little distance looks like a ship moored to the dock.
Long and short of it, its worth the money just watch you dont become too addicted

A reply to the original topic after 549 pages? :O
In other news, we now have a second statue of a Kiip.
We get them every two dozen pages or so, still neat to read. In summary, if there's a long ass thread here on dakka, don't assume that its stayed entirely on topic. =P
i dont think i even read the OP....... just hit the ground running!

Noobbomb, sorry my Internet lost connection, poop the gunpowder in my place beside spawn, it's the area Witt the Walls directly behind the spawn in the small ocean. It also has the stairsdiwn to bedrock, there big and easy to notice.

Fett, would I be OK to use the mob grinders, on the same terms? Or, put simply, are you making them available for public use as well as just to Inq. Wotsisname?
