A very good execution indeed! You really have a knack for robots mate! But I must agree with the base issue - a more universal one would do better (not that the current is bad in any way ) You could paint it in circles, like the energy is evenly spreading from the point where the beam hits the ground. Makes any sense? This way it'll still be in one colour theme with the arena part but won't look misplaced on other terrain.

And about that idea of mine...

This is what I mean by stained glass as I don't know how such things are called in english

There are special paints sold at any art-shop for those. They are semi-transparent! My thought is that using them on clear plastic might make a good looking holo/energy-field effect. What do you think?

I got what you meant Storag my mum used these craft paints, the only issue with them is they are really quite thick in consistency maybe a bit bulky for this scale.

However the idea is a cool one and with a little experimenting could or at least might work, and you were correct it is stained glass in English

ok...where to begin...

thanks mates... it really helps to up my spirits! much needed... first day at work... after FOUR weeks of illness and holidays... man... the kids at school were all crazy... dunno why... seems to be a tradition

well... graven asked if i should aply a wash... and a slight weathering... on this one i have to disagree... the whole arena is a crisp and clean scene... imagine the green grass of wimbedon or the soccer statium... no chance that before the games start the grass is not super mint...

and storag... i actually have a large amount of these thick craft paints... for energy effects these might really be a cool thing to experiment with... you can easily mix them and get nice swirls that way... the only problem with these i see is the constant happening of bubbles... i can´t say how many pictures of these, here named window colors (as the are used for possibly decorating windows...) i have done already... with young kids you tend to do that... even on tiles in the bathroom we have small pics of this...

so yeah... i think i will do some try outs... could be a cool thing...

as i said above... was totally drained after work so i only watched some telly with my wife...

hopefully more tomorrow!

cheers, vik

I might be wrong but my guess is that it's a standard GW flyer base + support pillars and lots of cutting/sanding to make the surface "icy".

It was carved with a dremel..I can see the tool marks, but they must have wet-sanded and then buffed it back clear again. That's a LOT of work!

I saw a conversion where someone casted a stealthsuit in clear resin. He then painted it half way going stealth so there was that cool energy line rippling through the mini. Then the clear parts were buffed clear. It was one of the coolest minis Ive seen in a long time. Too bad I dont have that picture anymore

i totally see the flying base... you see the lil pip in the middle...looks like a navel to me ... the whole thing done with a flying base...

the hardest part is like sanding a diamond... keeping the sanding to the level where you get the shape you are looking for but keep enough substance to the material...

tricky...

at dave: tho for someone that has the knowing of milling...a doable job maybe?

and KC...indeed that would be a cool mini!

Decrepit Dakkanaut

oh yeah, completely doable, but like KC said, it would almost be faster to make a mold and re-cast it in clear resin.

if you are a caster ...

tho having such a mini would be bound to be cool...

you should think of asking galorn to cast you a rangerlike mini in clear resin to go for a stealthboy conversion so to say^^

No, while it would be cool, it's really not practical in game-terms, you can just place a token next to the fig wearing the Stealth Boy, denoting that some special rule is in play, such as -2 to hit or some such

Even if he was, it'd look cool enough to be worth it anyway. The main issue would be bubbles though.

Also sneaking nightkin = clear resin.

I understand that bubbles are only an issue if there are no proper equipment. Gonna ask Jake what he used for the bottles.

That super shiney one looks like the one I was talking about...minus paint of course

But how cool would that be? I think the rule of cool would over ride the anger of casting said mini.

Yeah, they should make the next ones clear. Probably won't though...

Well i find that the the stealth suits are some of the most fun models to convert/reposition.

more so then the bigger suits as the tend to look way to bulky to be flying where as stealth suits look just right in full flight
Spoiler:
check my blog for the newest member of the stealth suit family which i crated for a friend
