Haha, should get them to graffiti up the final product... 40K Yoof style
BTW, I like it, looks nice and solid as well as playable. It reminds me of a castle wall section I once made for my WFB Empire army - long since gone now unfortunately (the wall that is, still have my army lurking in a box somewhere...)

NOW...was the demand for an update... ok...granted it is a rather late now...
but here it is...
i worked on the railings...
i worked on the turret idea...
i worked on the stairs to include an idea for a subteran entrance...
here are the pics...:
the work on the turrets proved to be a bit difficult...
as i wanted to have this fortress with butresses... i know stand before the problem where to put them... the walls as such are too crowded then with doors, butresses AND turrets mounted on the walls too... i could build small towers... like you get in penitentiaries...
also i cant really decide about the weapon systems... atm i am using q-tips as barrels for a what-not weapon system...
here are my tries...:
i think they look too weedy for 40k... your thoughts???
and here is the placement problem...just imagine a full tower where these turrets would be attached to...
cheers, vik...
and your input is definatly needed!!!

Very cool indeed. Although I envisaged those as sliding rather than opening on hinges. I like the way the gun emplacements echo aegis lines but the armament needs to be... Boxier, I think. I love the interior stair as well, I was worried the treads were a bit large but they've grown on me. Great job.

The triple barrels on the left look good. 'Meh' to the others.
The weapon shields look very nice but I don't think they work well overall since the fortress looks awkward with them on the corners.
Thumbs up for the subterranean entry point!!

i too think the guns need to look more heavy ... i need to see to it...
and my wife was also liking the tripple version the best...
and graven... yeah... now that you say it... those doors should be sliding ones......hmmm... but i wanted to have doors that could be opened...
at JB any ideas where to use them then instead? should i get rid of the butresses then?

I don't know. The gun ports look out of place on top of the wall. Even from a functional point of view, they don't make sense. Think arrow slits on parapet walls - unless you're planning on doing a whole series of them. I think they want to be stuck on the sides of your fortress (like the GW bastion). What if you blocked out the space between the buttresses and put a couple there? It would make the shape of the building a bit more dynamic and give it a little more functionality (firing arcs and the like). Couldn't you just plop a Predator turret on the corners? Maybe build them up 2" (1.5-2x the height of a SM) so there's a sense of a space for a guy to fit in there? Also, I think you're right about the straws. I would group them into mini-guns at least.
Regardless,I really like the arches and I love the double/double doors.

Perhaps you could shorten the buttresses to half their height and position a turret/port centered above each buttress.
You wouldn't want the turrets/ports too low anyway since defenders want to discourage sneaky attackers from dropping explosives into the ports and weapon tubes.
Which doors is Graven recommending as sliding doors?
...and where is the League of Extraordinary Riveters to ride in and save the converting day?

well i at least can follow you with the bastion setup...
the current gun ports on top of the walkways is just a very dirty mockup.... it is meant to be a stand in for a full tower...where i then stuck on the gunports...
a bit like this one then...:
only more modern looking of course^^ Automatically Appended Next Post: JB wrote:Perhaps you could shorten the buttresses to half their height and position a turret/port centered above each buttress.

i think he refers to the main doors... the teethed structure... the interlocking of both wings... that look usually you get for sliding doors...
and the butress idea i think could work quite well too... in fact i have toyed around with that idea too... tho i was hesitant to cut up the already done work again...
and yep... the league... seems to be all sleeping....?

I like the three barrel turrets well, but how about a larger bore gun.
Perhaps some ground level emplacements. At least on the three sides without the door. It could be accessible from underground and then you don't have to do any cutting.

and again my vocabulary got bigger... had to look up bore... can´t understand that i didn´t knew about that word!... you are right... i have to use something else... the barrels have been nagging on my nerves for the better part of yesterday and today...
i´ve played (cut down to size) with one butress today... the following pic (look below...) i want to hear your thoughts about!

HAHAHA!... well... so i gather you never heard of the fulfilling calming/ soothing methode of riveting? reaching a calm valley amidst this pushy and shouty world? rivet zen...after you placed around a hundred rivets in one session you will know it

vickers... yeah... that sounds like the way to go...!and thanks for the praise for the underground entrance... i felt it was needed... tho atm i get a strong star ship troopers fortress feeling from the build...i wanted to suggest that the fortress is more than meets the eye at first glance...
oh
yeah... there was that thing with the butress and the gunport...
looke here :

I like what i'm seeing so far, nice work. I can just imagine an Imperial Guard detachment held up inside, while their besieged on all sides by an unrelenting Tyranid swarm.
This could lend itself well to a modular building type approach, as you can build more structures of varying types and construct yourself a customized complex with each building interconnected via underground tunnels.
Are you going to be using any kind of textured paint, for that heavy industrial concrete look?

yers.... ... the buttresses are indeed a bit crooked...all will be soleved once the fortress and all its parts are glued into place... sand PVA basing will eaqual out all crooknesses
and i am atm working on more impressive weaponry!

brilliant idea... this could be a really cool setting for a hide and seek scenario 40k style... start in one fortress and then get attacked.... once overrun by oposing forces you run for the next base...
as for the textured paint... i do own something like that... tho atm i am still trying to figure out what the material of the build should look like.... concrete or steel?... for concrete i have researched some good looking methodes already...

Vik, it's looking good, but you'll need to put something next to the buttresses otherwise attackers could get under the turret and have a somewhat safe spot.
Maybe some toothpicks used as spikes, or little boxes to look like claymore. Or the smoke launchers from marine vehicles to use as defensive grenade launchers. Nothing says keep back lick grenades.
And your English is better than my German that I learned 20+ years ago and never got the chance to use .
