by all means... go painting!!!.... it is always a leap into cold water for me too after a longer period of time of no painting...

Ruglud wrote:Vik, you didn't go Pink :(

Oh well, I'm over my disapointment now... Paint job looks good, but I personally think some weathering wouldn't go amiss. Maybe some simple sponging over the edges, even if not rusty, there will be paint wear to show the bare metal underneath - also some gimy oil streaks here and there?

well...to be honest... i don´t own any pink paint

i think some sponge weathering might be possible... as for oily streacks... that would be a totally new thing for me...

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away...

oily streaks, how about holding the model so the nose is up and tail down, than a dab of black or brown ink where the streak starts followed by a drop of water, then let gravity take over?? Should rub/wash off easily if it looks odd after you've tried it

hmmm.... yeah... that would do the trick...

Yeah, aircraft weathering really needs to be directional to look right. Gravity would leave a scalebuster drip shape, using a wet or dry paper towel in the same direction would work.

Not where I should be

Have not done it in a very long time, but used to use a straw and blow the ink in the right direction, gives a "blasted out the exhaust" effect.

Funny not used that since 1:72 airfix days. That was a long time ago. Must remember it for myself. LOL.

I'm always surprised that I can paint better than I thought after having a break.

I like the blue look its not seen often, was starting to wonder what colours you were going for

looking forward to this

actually you are not really far away from my own feelings atm.. i recently got me some quite decent brushes and i try to think before dipping the brush into the paint... so... with a more steady brush control... yeah... i think my painting is actually getting a bit better... but still...the first strokes are always ladden with fear

well that blue was way to much collecting dust... i fear tho there is not much left of said hue to be seen after the weathering

LOL...thankfully i wasn´t drinking while reading that... so... endless luck till you find yourself a razor and free your fingers then?...hmmm... i call that dedication for friendship

dsteingass wrote:Uh oh...Vik's on a roll!

you bet mister

so....

( a german band that makes quite good and moody rock )

at first i started with the sponge on weathering with vermin brown...at first this went quite good... but i had no real clue... so i made the paint too watery and ruined it almost...
when everything was dry again i used a mix of mithril silver and boltgun metal and drybrushed and feathered it around like crazy... well it´s also one of these akward moments you just had to see for yourself i guess... but in the ned it didn´t look too shabby (well actually it did... that was the whole point, innit?^^)
and then i used the blue wash (diluted even... so much for a learing curve today^^) in the end i added some decals... some upside down skulls for the gunner to keep track of his kills... and some old roughrider decals that had a certain orky pirate vibe for me... and they are yellow... which kinda suits the scheme...

so... here are the pics... a bit many ... but i toook with and without flash for you to see whats what...tho i think i need to make daylight pics... these are not the pics that tell the whole story...

and afterwards you see the first pics of the crew in WIP...

enjoy:

and the crew...

cheers, vik

Mostly, on my phone.

Great start mate! I would say next just be brave and go for it - get a drybrush of vermin back in it, maybe some directional bolt gun metal streaks too, and some thin oil wash streaks. It is always vaguely terrifying but, you know, you just have to go for it

That looks great Vik! The shading is nice and varied in color, but dark enough. The Grot in the last picture looks like he's wearing a baseball catcher/umpire vest.

Great job Vik, I think these grots are hilarious and fit perfect with the plane. I'm on my phone right now so I can't see the grot clearly manning the bolter, just the boots, but looks like he's holding on for dear life.

oh... i had more of a rugby player feeling... but i see what you mean... the torso and feet are actually skaven bitz... i trimmed off the tail part and well... a bit of LGS to get rid of fur and presto... heavy armored grots ..ok...he probably gets called big foot by his chaps...

actually the bolter manning grot is a bit in an akward state... due to painting needs i have him ´armless^^... the arms are attached to the bolter but the rest of the body is treated seperatly so... he is currently NOT holding on for dear life... but soon...we gotta have faith

Well with Orky things, it generally is accepted that there is a lot of weathering, dirt, battle damage and rust. But you can do as much or as little as you like.

On that note, have you seen Gitsplitta's chipping, weathering, rust and soot tutorials? They're very good and easy to follow. Worth a look even if you don't use them now.

i only know of gitsplitta´s basing tut... the other ones i need to look into...

and thanks not_u... tho... i have to say the blue metalic look came straight from the pot... so not that big an achievement^^...

but i did a bit of a thinking... i wasn´t in the mood to further weather down the bird... so what to do to make it orky?... right... add some grafitti...

here are some pics... and the big courtesy goes to theo...as his idea is now to be read on the bomb... (hopefully i didn´t step on your toes with the slight variation i used... i respect every bodies beliefs... no mocking was inteded...just general high spirits!)
