Sigvatr wrote: The fight is far from being as hard as so many people claim. Both enemies heavily telegraph their attacks and their attack pattern is very limited.
By themselves they're not that hard but together fighting you at the same time it's different. Spend too long attacking one and the other will jam its weapon up your ***. Not good times that's for sure.
The fight only becomes difficult if you are either underleveled or if you want to fight Smaug first in order to get Ornstein's soul (then again: why would you?), as Ornstein will always be in your back. Especially STR-fighters (such as Melissia) can get in trouble as attack animations (normally) are very long. Ornstein, however, is rather fragile and has low defenses, making it easy to take him down by your usual circle-strafing. As usual, however, STR-weapons are at a disadvantage and need to be quick on their toes as the window to start an attack is shorter for them. There really isn't much to say or give advice about the fight, it's pretty straight-forward with no secret tricks.
In case that anyone doesn't know it yet, there's an awesome song about Dark Souls; "Lordvessel" by Tanouki Suit. Careful, it has light spoilers.
I have a rogue (backstab character) and currently i'm using fairly lighter armor to give me quicker reactions. The armor is a weird mask and an outfit that's reminiscent of the spanish inquisition from monty python. Perhaps i haven't leveled enough or more likely haven't gotten the right gear? I'm using a spear mostly. I find the demon's spear to sometimes be useful in some fights if only because it has a longer reach than most spears. That thing was a freaking god send against those giant demons in the lava pit beyond the topless spider queen chick.

Also this is relevant to 'dark souls' ;P.
There's some cursing so maybe NSFW but it's great. A friend's sister quoted it once before and i would never have even known about this without having seen it at GW.
Oh and look at the 'show more' part below the video. He has some funny stories with it usually.

In general, get as close to the fat roll limit as possible (50%) or go less and take the salto ring for extremely fast rolls and therefore a lot of invulnerability frames when rolling. Unless you're a STR character, of course, albeit even those can roll well.
Spears are bad weapons in DS as they have slow attack animations, low base damage and mostly bad special moves. The only good one is the Silver Knight Spear.
If you want a DEX-focused character, you should look into either the Great Scythe (sucks in PvP, though), Uchikatana or the Balder Side Sword. Highly recommend the latter as it has a superb moveset for both PvE and PvP. My wife preferred the Great Scythe was I always kicked her butt in PvP as its moves are very predictable.

I got 'dark souls' when it was still for windows live i think and the port showed xbox commands for responses to things in the computer version. It was a very lazy port and it was confusing as sh*t. Knowing wtf is needed for what and knowing what each thing does would help tremendously. I sorta figured out on my own but there are bits they really should've thrown into the player's manual even if most casual players cast that aside and never read it i would've liked knowing what stats mean what without going through the slow process of finding out on my own.
I find your opinion of spears to be strange. They seem to handle larger creatures fairly well in my experience. You just have to poke them with it and fall back a little and do that over and over till they take enough damage to die. Demon's spear was really good back when i first used it. I pretty much slaughtered all the monsters i faced with no more than a couple deaths on my part possibly.

Btw unrelated but how was that animated batman movie 'the dark knight returns'? I only saw clips of it myself but from what i've seen it looks good. One of my friends said it was from arguably the best batman comic ever made.

Finished my last x-com run and tweaked a couple of things. Going to try to use different combos of abilities and squad composition this time. No squadsight in the zone snipers either, too much of a crutch, at least 3-4 times last game she single handedly clutched a bad turn by nuking upwards of 5 enemies out in the open (cyrsalids, muton brawlers that had been softened up, etc), too easy lol.
Can you have more than one shiv on your party? I'd really like to run a squad of mostly SHIVs for fun, but I've never even checked to see if you could take more than one (didn't even research them last time).
From Software is well known for doing extremely poor PC versions. DS1 was unplayable without mods or a controller, DS2 was a mess without mods / controller on top of From Software even porting graphics 1:1, resulting in terrible graphics on the PC.
Spears just have a far lower damage potential than a lot of other weapons, e.g. the ones I mentioned above. The Demon Spear, for example, has the problem of dealing mixed damage thus never reaching the top damage values other weapons can get. On the other hand, it offers a good bit of security due to being the longest range weapon in the game and the terrible, terrible hitboxes. Dear lord, the hitboxes in Dark Souls are awful. Spears in PvP are rather looked down upon because of their terrible hitbox and because of forcing the opponent to a very specific playstyle (aka roll around). Very good vs. fat rollers, but prepare for hate
I wouldn't know, haven't ever seen a fat roller in pvp in DS1.
All the PVPers I've seen are pyromancers.
Out of eight player invasions, all of them were pyromancers. All of them used the exact same tactics, and pretty similar buids.

Yeah, pyromancy is very useful because it can be used without requiring any high stat.
Sadly, with the DLC, balance was thrown completely overboard. Once you reach higher levels, you will exclusively see dark magic users who instantly kill you with one hit.
I know that my Naian is in a faction, but then I made a second character to play with a friend, who's Firran. I couldn't communicate between the Naian and the Firran, but when I made the Firran myself, we were in the same starting zone.
Archeage is faction based like WoW. Each faction has 2 races and the 2 factions are hostile to each other.
i tried to add your main to my friends list but it was coming back with player not found.

Ambitions is a good choice, I think. It's got more substantive content than some of the others. Personally I also like Pets, but that's just because I like... pets.
One that I would not recommend is Supernatural. The new life states aren't that interesting, and the zombies it adds are such a huge pain that modding them out is the only reasonable option.

Hrm. I might have misspelled. It's not the best name I've ever come up with, after all.
I'll see if I can just add you next time I'm on.

Other than that, she also recommends Ambitions for being able to work at home.
I see. Ambitions it is then. Thanks guys!

I've heard that the vampires in Night Life can also be a problem. If left unchecked, you'll reportedly end up with them overrunning the community.
Defeated O&S... pvpers in dark souls are jannoying as hell, appearing every time you're trying to summon help for a boss. And they're always powergaming donkey-caves, too. I should go offline when I play.

Yeah, they would do that. Night Life was in general buggy as all get out, which saddened me, because I liked the city setting. The Sims has always been a bit too suburban for me.
I thought it was kind of fun building towns waaay back in the day until the citizenry got pissy over stupid things and I may or may not have neglected to repair their homes after natural disasters... I've never gotten the appeal of the newer games where it seems like you just play the one person and customize your house or whatever.
May try SWTOR with a friend for a bit, was gonna buy it when it came out but never did. I figure it's F2P as long as I clutch tight to my wallet, shouldn't hurt to check it out.
The only thing about those games that would potentially interest me is all of the tragic ways your little dude could meet their end... and I'm not creepy enough to buy a game *just* for that reason At least not yet.... But seriously, trapping some poor dude in his bedroom boxed in by espresso machines so he can't get to his bed and dies of exhaustion? So mean.

Removing the ladder from the pool while a sim is in it is a popular version of what you're describing, from what I understand.

Aren't there versions now that come with everything bundled?
Actually, hold on...
*opens up Steam*
Keeeeeeeeeeeeeey-righst... that's an expensive game. Over $439 for the full game.
Yeah, forget that...
Yeah, I only picked up The Sims 3 back when it was in a Humble Bundle. Got 2-3 of the cheaper expansions I'd use (University, Nightlife, Ambitions) and it still cost me more than I'd have liked. Sims 4 isn't getting a look in from me at all, not since they further gutted the base game so they can sell you back its features in yet more Overpriced DLC™.
Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

flamingkillamajig wrote: Why's everybody so crazy for 'the sims'? I haven't played since the first ones. What's changed? Can't say i'm really into it though but i am curious.
I like the Sims because I like designing and building houses and parks and things like that. I've never found another game that quite scratches that itch; where you can go in and design every feature of a home, right down to the paper towel rolls, and then have people live in it, seeing how well the design works.
It's not my favorite game series, but I've got enough out of it to justify what I've put in, for me.
If I'm gonna go design a house I'll probably do it in a version of space engineers so heavily modded that there may very well be more mods than game.
(which also covers what I've been doing when I haven't been playing dark souls)
Automatically Appended Next Post: On a related note, time to dive back in to dark souls and figure out what I'm gonna be doing now that I have the lordvessel.
Vereor nox.

Don't mean to be 'That Guy' but i pummelled them on my first try. And i don't use cheap tactics like Havels armour, sorceries or iron flesh.
The hardest boss for me was Capra demon, as it's a pretty cheap fight with a long walk between and most player characters, mine included, don't have the stats to wield the good gear they've picked up yet, unless you're a noob and you're using the drake sword lol. I couldn't beat him legit and had to hide on a window sill pelting him with fireballs (a cheap exploit i discovered myself thank you very much ). I also found the Iron Golem fairly difficult but after a couple tries i just gave up and summoned the Tarkus guy.

I beat the Capra demon on my third try. For me hardest boss was the Stray Demon. That damn magical blast....
Easiest boss was the Golem. I didn't even HAVE to fight. I fought because I wanted to make it go faster
