yeah... what kingcracker said... probably a mix of washes will get you a nice oily effect...

the statue looks nice... tho with the round pedestal of the fountain you need to make these align...

and i like those big pipes... looking very dramtic! tho i have to say with these... the trickle should be a bit thicker then...

oh, and i like the sloshes and strockes you already did with that air dry clay... nice idea that you can consider nicked

just my five cents tho

I always value everyone's 2cents Vik it's what helps us get better and learn things mate!

with the statue I intend to add a riveted plate on the base so it sits flat on the pedestal, the sloshes in the waste is actually poly filler the stuff you use to repair cracks in walls etc. it comes in a small tub and it's handy! I just dabbed a bit in there and teased it with my fingers until it looked o.k, Oh and don't fret, i fully intend to broaden the stream from the pipe Vik just needed to get my guide there!

and as for the oil effect I 'may'[i] have found something i can experiment with thinking of this as a test?

actually that nailpolish could be your winner...not good tho for picture taking as the effect will fully be able to oggle at in RL then... but well you are not only building your stuff for us

and yes...filler was my second guess^^ couldn´t tell as the stuff is as white as the clay

Im working on your oil problem currently. Im hoping/thinking that if I make the "oil slick" area painted in boltgun or mithril silver, and then wash over the metal paint, itll give it that nice anodized look you get from oil slicks. This should be fun!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
OK I got a little progress anyways, I think some type of metal paint and then oil slick colors seem to work best. I messed with a couple ways of getting them to streak but I think the best can be seen in the top middle

I just put 4 wash colors in the design I wanted quikly so they were all still very wet. Then I dipped my brush in water a bit, and just ran it through the colors from the outside inwards. I think it actually works better groin from the inside out, making the brightest color streak outwards.

This one here I used the same color of the water, with just purple and blue, so it went dark green/purple/blue. I got too much water on the brush when I streaked, but it still gives you an idea. That seemed like a better way to go with it, though adding red and yellow (as I did in the picture above) gives the slick a bit more character.

In either case though, I think metal needs to be under the slick, as it gives it that metallic look and sheen that an oil slick can have. Good luck

lol, yes Warmill that is sometimes the only way! I won't get into the old 'you should see my hose' talk we all need a good pit in the basement!

And i have some more pics for your enjoyment and this time it's a MASSIVE thank you to KingCracker! that beard (or is it a man?) took it upon himself to experiment with oily liquid sheen on a surface and I used his test as a guide and did something beautiful (i think?) I'm very happy with the result so far I am yet to add water effects to shine it up and thicken the flowing liquid from the pipe, but the trick was to drybrush mithril silver and wash with inks then let dry and drybrush and wash again until the effect is achieved as you wish!

Next up it was the statue for my fountain, i looked at my inspiration pics thread and tried to get a feel similar to the statue in there of John Glover, I didn't have hawk turquoise so I used Dheneb stone with Thraka green as a mixer, this gave it the chalky look while the green tinge still remained, i then washed parts with the green to strengthen the colour and a little touch up with Tin Bitz finished her off nicely.

Now for some not really new stuff, i did some work on the shrine, and glossed the marble again and did some start work on drybrushing the walls and weathering the steel flooring on the inside how is it looking guys?

Random pic of my Samoyed

Now a little tester for the Stained glass windows I will be working on soon, I have the actual windows being sorted and printed on good quality acetate, but the curly problem was how to add the raised lead frame around all the glass bits well, thank you those strange old ladies who do scrap booking I found an embossing pen that uses a gel to draw on non porous shiny surfaces... hmmmm, like my acetate?.... why yes Damo just like your acetate! well then i best try it out.... like this on some left over computer screens on..... acetate!

And lastly here's one for the terrain boys and girls i've been chillin' with lately .... yep fella's here's Nerdfest09's VERY FIRST RIVETS! a 1.5mm punch for $7- thank you!

Sorry there's a bit to sort through and not really exciting but hopefully enough to whet your appetite and something to talk about!

wow... that verdigris effect on your statue is looking damn fine sir! never would i have thought that adding dheneb stone to the mix with thrakka green would come to this effect! cool idea... will use that too!

and the marbellooks again very good... so i can only state that the pics are better than the last time, not really what you´ve changed

i am not really comprehending what you did for those stained window frames tho... i think i have a glimpse but not the ...er...whole picture

and nice doggie^^ had to look up the race tho... as he looks bigger in that pic as probably in RL...

the sloshes of the leakage... very good looking... i am eager to see how this will turn out when watereffects are added!

as for the rivetmaker ... are you satisfied with that product? looks like the tiny rivtes come out a but fuzzy areound the edges? are you pressing hard enough?

That water turned out purdy good so far! Hope it looks even better with the water works on it. And agreed, that Marble is just tip top. Too bad Orks arnt really about the pretty marble work. Maybe Ill try it out on something someday, because that looks great

Ah thanks guys! :-) I've just layed down my first coat of water effect on the waste pit, it kinda looks good for a manufactorum spewing out an oily mercury! pics later today!

@Vik, yeah the rivets are a bit fuzzy only in one spot though so it shouldn't be too hard to clean up, also I'm not sure i have the correct plasticard to punch them from? I had to use a textured one i had lying around which may have had an effect on the finish? and you had to look up my Samoyed! really? you never seen one before! and that's my little girl Issabella :-) she's about 23kg and roughly the size of a soft fluffy Husky! Osc is my boy he's nearly 30kg and about the size of a slender female german Shepherd! they are my constant modeling companions!

And thanks Gits and Not_U, glad you are still kicking it Nerd style! the statue turned out better than i hoped, I looked at the verdigris pics and it was chalky and quite white so i figured correctly that dheneb stone would help! and the wash just tints it nicely :-)

@KC: dude you need to do a website hosted by 'The Beard' where he gives opinions and chews people out about the hobby! you two could interview each other! all you need is some of those googly Muppet eyes to add to the hairy beast!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh Vik, about the windows, so you get the 'whole picture' what I'm planning is to add stained glass windows into the frames on my shrine of the aquila, i wanted them to appear as real as possible so printed paper was out, I talked to my dad who owns a marketing printing and advertising agency and he can print me some stained glass windows on the same clear acetate as i had the computer screens printed on, so i used a spare screen to test some gel pens i found to add the raised lead that joins the coloured glass together in a real window, they'll work really nicely I think after having a play with them, when you draw on glossy non porous surfaces it leaves a raised line about 1mm or so high, just waiting for the print outs in a couple of weeks when my folks get back from thailand!

ah... i see... now all is understood... i bet under these conditions the stained windows will look awesome... ther gel pens then will have straight lines for you to follow... this was my main thought here as your try looks rumply^^

and using embossed PC for rivtes... an abomination!!! better use flat... then this effect will not happen again... you can also start with cardboard rivtes... on that scale it probably wont matter material wise but you need then superglue...which might cause other problems...

and i had to look up the race of yon doggies as i confused them with these:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_Spitz

a bit understandable^^
but as you stated their sizes i see why this is not to be confused^^

and hopefully both are well behaved... my kids are^^... somehow touching dads stuff on the desk is a sakrelig they wont commit... and believe it or not i never told them off... i never needed to...lucky me^^

Thanks Leo, it was pretty easy to do and worked well for a first attempt, i'd do it slightly different next time but I'm pleased with it so i won't bother re doing it and do I have a table? well, sort of I bought a Realm of Battle board and I started it earlier this year but I've had to put it away until the weather fines up in my neck of the woods, it's got the majority of the base colouring done but I've been inspired by local dirt hills and now want to create a landscape that resembles my own lacale! then it shall be filled with cool terrain and then i start on a cities of death board

Just wanted to bounce an idea or two off your heads guys,

as i'm terraining it up at the moment while i'm not in a painty mood I want to create an industrial zone for my board, the theme being that there's a xenos biology lab hidden amongst the factories and due to the warzone it's been revealed! omg!

so what other smaller industrial things can i build to represent the part of the city? pipes? vents? smelters? and any ideas on how they could/should look i'd be grateful?

my mind is ticking.... onto my days off tomorrow! :-)

Crane sounds good too Vik, something different and a good oportunity for me to add bunches of rivets on something and make you guys proud I'm hanging around! lol :-)

so can anyone point me in the direction or tell me what i need to fill my clear bio tubes with resin? they're only fairly small so i don't need much, i'm thinking now to tint the resin a bit to make it visable in the tubes and give it a look like there's an agent in the liquid preserving them!

this is them:
