Hey GiraffeX no rush mate :-) it's gonna be a long journey if it eventuates! it'll probably turn into a squad or 2 of marines, some termies and a rhino or tank until I get bored and go back to my FleshEaters! then I'll give them away or swap them for other bits lol! but don't let that stop you from listing for me! I may get truly flamewrought and go totally crazy with them!

And KC I was browsing 28mm terrain looking for some of the platformers kits and I went into someones other items who was selling some and I saw these so cheap, I think you can find them under scorched city 28mm ruins? if you don't find them i'll link ya mate! :-)

Heaps of little bits done today! a undercoat here, a highlighted armour there

firstly I finished the highlights on the LoTD marines, just a very thin application of fortress grey which blended in nicely with the shade of black after the washes, the first pic shows the 2 marines on the left without the highlight and the two on the right with the highlight that just tidies them up nice like!

and a couple of the finished armour shots with all of them

just bolters and bases i think? any other suggestions?

This is my first proper freehand banner work I've started it's for a termie bearer for Kitch and I wanted to use it again as an excuse to push myself paint wise! the scroll needs a bit of work to even it up but the Sons of Orar symbol and basic layout i'm pleased with

Can you say manufactorum? ... manufra....manooofak.... ....manufaartorio.....

here's a pic

Airbrushed the buildings I built and I am pretty happy with them for a simple scheme keep in mind they're just started and not finished yet.

The LoTD are looking fantastic NF. That last highlight really makes them pop nicely. Great job on those buildings too. Wow, $3 terrain has never looked so good!

LotD look great.

For a simple airbrushing, those ruins look perfect. very realistic looking.

And really like the graffiti.

Only gripe on the lotd duders is the sprue tabs on the shoulder pads. Makes me sad. Still solid looking though.

Ah thanks guys, yeah for $3- each i'm pleased and will be pursuing a table filled ruined settlement with lots of Graffiti! any other suitable slogans I can use? and I laughed at both the captions! next i need to build some enforcers beating down on a citizen! with a can rolling away into the pool of paint (or is it blood )

Ah WM360! trust you to pick up on the tabs! I was really hoping no one would see! I just grabbed the pads from my bits and didn't pay any attention to them until painting and then i couldn't be assed fixing it! but now I have to! i'll do it today so everyone's happy (including me!)

really don't know what else to do today I want to sit down and read a book but i'm fresh outta novels! I might assemble and prime some more FleshEaters as i am slowly getting the bite to do more of my boyz again! (see what i did there) and I always have the 3 speeders to finish...... and 2 rhino's...... and razorback.......and Baal pred.......and predator.....and 10 termies....... and 20 marines

Heaps of pics today had a few ideas to start and get feedback on and managed to get a reasonable way through each one which was nice!

first up is my Russian clip together building that i want to preform a dual task by being an objective for terrain as well as a photo backdrop for models I was inspired by Dsteingass as usual and while not trying to copy him i leant heavily on his design.... thanks Dave! I also threw a few shots with the bubbling bio chambers and my Apothecary just for a bit of a 'Cinematic' feel lol

Next i propagandanised my buildings! (it's a word!....honest!.....) the amazing Dakkaite TiB whipped these up for me! he can do amazing graphic work for a small fee and even incorporate your own image or army etc. not to mention he's a bloody nice guy too! anyway here's the start of the work, i still need to weather them and dirty them up once they dry properly, again i added some mini's for Cinematics

next thing on the table of nerd was one of those things that make you believe you put off painting something for a reason! I had all my tanks sitting on my shelf for months and no inspiration until i literally stumbled across a thread using this technique which I jumped on and had a go at! in the blank parts on the vehicles where some after market producers make panels to fit I bought a box of wargames factory skeleton warriors and cut them up and then sanded the backs of parts down so they fit flatter onto the tanks, I glued the parts randomly onto the panels and then used liquid greenstuff to fill in the gaps and give it some texture!

Righto, there we go! I need to find some railings for my laboratory and figure out which direction to take with it so input encouraged also, how do i make stairs? or should i make a ladder? but i feel stairs suit better? but they take up more room? hmmm it's tough being a nerd having Nerd world issues! also need to make a dissection table

comments on my progress dudes? I need to get inspired tomorrow when i jump back on so i paint my ass off!

Hey those tanks look great! Ive been thinking about starting a random bits sale type deal next year to make some extra cash, and have been gathering ideas of things to make. And those panels you did up is an example of a perfect idea to do!

Also, love the propaganda posters. Ive seen that before and always thought it was a brilliant idea

Pretty cool Nerdo. Nicely done.

Your propaganda needs weathering... it's much too clean looking compared to the buildings.

Cheers guys! :-) Gits, weathering is on the cards mate! had to wait for them to dry first and figure out how to do it? but don't worry it shall be done to blend in with the ruins! and paint shall hit the tanks soon! I'm just about to prime them and hit the bottom with some airbrush shading then pull the mask off for the chipping!

No, Nerdfest isn't wise, he just looks at tonnes of blogs and garners methods and inspiration from veterans then gets ahead of himself and posts pics to tease everyone!

and on a side note, anyone want those LoTD I just did?

Oh my lord! sorry Casey! yes, yes of course i can tutor you in the ways or Marble-Fu

Firstly I painted the eagle dheneb stone/bleached bone and let it dry, then I got a sort brush and just painted pure water over the whole lot so when I washed with gryphone sepia (if i recall correctly) lightly it left a watercolour effect as a base for the veins, next I made slightly darker passes in roughly diagonal lines and then switched to a finer brush and started painting the veins making them darker in places, once dry I washed the whole thing again with a light watered down gryphone wash making it darker at the edges and then when it was dry again I got some very watered bleached bone and added some random passes to tone down the marble and make it appear like some of the veins are deeper, then finally a coat or 2 of gloss varnish

I can link you the tutes i used for inspiration if you wish? but if you check out the pics of it when you attempt it you shouldn't go wrong! or i can but the honored imperium set and do a step by step on the ruined eagle in the set?

now, onto todays small progress!

o.k, very quickly I began a jungle camo themed bunker with the airbrush, nothing special yet just base colours:

now onto the posters and the weathering (for you Gits ) I have so far just given them a wash of Agrax earthshade and it's darkened them down and made them look aged slightly what should I do next with them? do they need to be darker or different colours? bullet holes? what do you think?

Got some primer and shading onto the tanks today looking good if I may say so

and yes the turrets are slightly different colours i got caught between 2 cans of Army Painter primer when they changed the recipe and the newer ones are brighter than the old ones, it shouldn't have any effect on the final results though so hang tight Nerd brothers & sisters!

Those look great Nerd! They look like they were painted like they are almost made of sandstone, it has a great texture to it. You might try covering a few of the clips here and there, randomly with your propaganda posters like you did or even pipes or conduits or other gubbins, just to break up the pattern of clips.

As for the railings, those posts on the sides of your walkways make them look nice and solid, but railings and stairs should fit right on the edges of the platforms easily, and I know I ran out of those posts when building my backdrop. I needed every last one to get my diorama 3.5 wall panels high. I found when doing test shots that 3 high wasn't enough to hide the top of the diorama from the camera frame. Of course, my plastruct railings aren't really fit for the rigors of gaming, very fragile, but they look good

Thanks for dropping by Dave! Ah! so your set is 3.5 large panels high? i was considering making a foamcore extender for the top to black it out so it's removable and not too high? not sure yet what i'll do there, do you have any ideas for the interior layout? I have 5 Bio chambers and i wish to add a disection table with some buzzy saws and knives and needles and things but still have it be usable as terrain and look cool to boot!

plastruct are they hard to find? I am still interested in getting my hands on a catalog like you teased us with pages ago! I believe it's 'O' scale I need for 28mm stuff? I need some more random parts like the railings as well as stairs and ladders and some girders or crane parts for my manufactorum!

I hadn't thought of pipes on the sandstone esque buildings! but as soon as i saw you type it i knew it needs to be done! and i'm glad they do look sandstone-ish I wanted them to be easy to reproduce quickly and appear as if they've been hewn from the surrounding rock! I also just bought another 6 of the kits to make some more buildings, I might make some longer ones this time and see how they look!

Bullet holes, tears, burn marks. Maybe some patches of staining just to vary the surface color a bit.

You've seen my photo diorama, it's based on a 1foot square base, and I have 1 foot square black PVC foam sheets behind it for stability and to hide any light from coming through the little cracks and such. Plastruct being a US company, you may have trouble getting them there in OZ, but www.megahobby.com and http://www.hobbylinc.com probably have international shipping. Hobbylinc has a Japan site too, maybe that would be a good place to start. O scale is what you want definitely. Some HO stuff can be used for details as long as there are no scalebusters.

As far as layout, that is really up to you. The reason behind my layout was to give me several camera angles with enough variations in background to photograph miniatures on the same set without it all looking too similar.

@Dave: thanks again, 'O' scale I shall hunt down, I don't think my piece is anywhere big enough to have multiple shot angles for pics but it should suffice for finished images i'll have a look see on those sites you mentioned and see what goodies I find! as far as layout goes on the interior how should I set the actual laboratory up? you know, with the chambers and stuff for a good look? I've fiddled about with it but need a little input to make my decision

@Gits: yes, bullet holes are a must, i'm sure the enemy uses them as target practice I'll start drilling today! and maybe adding some burn marks on the edges of the buildings which will hopefully cut over onto some posters to add character you think that'd work for realism? I don't want to go too far and make them messy!

@Kid Kyoto: sorry mate I missed you earlier! yep, the buildings look exactly like them! but didn't come with a box and i think they're a separate kit? but it's darn versatile and I was left with heaps of parts to canabalise for other things! I have seen them sold next to Syberclicks? not sure if they're the same manufacturer but I'm liking them at the moment! certainly cheaper than GW!
