Recurring themes of the series of the series include 'God is Evil' while Lucifer is portrayed as a noble demon.

As an example, in SMT II, God's avatar - YHVH - is portrayed as an uncaring and ruthless tyrant whose ultimate goal is to create a perfect world...without free will. Lucifer's avatar in that same game - Louise Cypher - is portrayed as a 'Benevolent Boss' on the other hand.

Japanese media has actually shown a remarkable number of misconceptions concerning Western religion, but not that shocking. We show a similar level of confusion concerning eastern religions. Granted I'm not sure if SMT is an example of that. I remember reading something once about Gnostic undertones in the SM series of games which fits to a very loose extent the series motifs.

Spoiler:

You kill God's avatar in all three endings of SMT II. Granted, the Neutral Ending has YHVH cursing you to a fate worse than death (indirectly confirmed in SMT III) for defying God, though in the Law Ending he takes his defeat (and death) in stride as a noble sacrifice to create the perfect world, while Lucifer will protect you from God's vengeance in the Chaos Ending.

Just pulled my Record of Lodoss War DvD's out of storage if that counts. If you don't know what this anime is, you are missing out on some classic cartoon action.

And, some original Megaman the show. Still remember watching that on t.v. sadly.

Looked up Record of lodoss war and started watching it.

Does everyone in the show have EXTERMINATUS-PROOF shoulders?

Ideon is pretty sweet, though I found the early part of the series kind of slow.

Like a certain other show, you need to see the last movie to get the actual ending though.

IMO watching the show is ok and the movies are better. The 2 movies make a lot of sense if you watch them without the TV show. It actually amazes me when compilation movies are that good and actually improve upon the original even if the show gets cancelled.

Oh so the movies are compilations like how some of the Gundam Series have compilation movies? I might try that out, bc watching each episode in multiple parts on youtube is kind of annoying. Well more so youtube is really annoying, it has got to be one of the worst sites for streaming videos lol

Yeah I suggest just watching the movies. It cuts a lot of stuff that really isn't important. Ideon has a lot of guys who show up with a new uber weapon which is then defeated later in the episode. This gets repeated a lot throughout the show. The movie touches on everything that's really important and they are really enjoyable. Especially the last movie.

Mhm.. Think I'll rewatch the first anime I've ever watched (and got me into it. ) Tekkaman Blade! God, that series was not made for 7 year olds, but boy was it great.

And valerian, I am amused that an anime not being released in America is apparently something that would hinder me from seeing it. I don't watch dubs and I CBA to wait for official releases to come here 5 years after the fact.

Yeah, they are a bit like that though the last movie builds a lot on it, changes a few things and actually has the ending.

The soundtrack is also one of the best and uses the leitmotif really well.

Compilation movies don't always work so well. The Gundam one was quite good, as it covered a lot and gave a good summary; the Ideon one turned out really well. But the Zeta Gundam one apparently wasn't so great, and the L-Gaim ones miss off a lot of stuff, and I didn't like the standalone one that much (it might work standalone it seemed odd in the continuity of the series as it happened midway through the beginning but if it happened I think later parts in the series would be affected, and some characters seemed to act a little OOC).

That depends on your point of view; I actually enjoyed it, especially the alternate ending it presented to the Zeta Gundam saga.

I haven't seen the movies, but that was what I heard. I think it might be because the movies aren't bad per se, but make no sense if you haven't seen the series perhaps? (I dunno, haven't seen it).

Oh, L-Gaim is also for fans of Jet Bikes. It's how people get around in that show.

No, you can watch the movies even without watching the series beforehand.

I completely agree with you although I haven't seen the L-Gaim ones because L-Gaim was so boring to me. I got tired of all the sillyness.

Let's not talk about the 0083 movie. That was one of the worst pieces of garbage ever along with the SEED ones.

Just finished the last three episodes of Dangan Ronpa. Very excellent, despite the fact that they had to cut out a lot of stuff from the game to make it fit into a twelve episode format.

And this was an awesome little tidbit at the end of the final episode:

Follow up on this. The Shin Megami Tensei games (Devil Survivor/Devil Survivor 2 on DS, SMT IV and one called Soul Hacker on 3DS and I believe another called Perfect Journey) are all available on Amazon, translated and official. I also believe that the SMT Devil Survivor anime is on CR, or at least part of it. http://www.crunchyroll.com/devil-survivor-2-the-animation
