Unit 731 was the Japanese army's bioweapon research unit. They committed some unethical medical experiments right up there with guys like Mengele. Their CO, IIRC, died a free man, in the US, for having handed over all their research.

The Japanese in WW2 did things that would have made the worst Nazi blanch a little. Look up the Rape of Nanking and some of the other battles in China from the invasion of Manchuria to the end of the war. The perversion of bushido that the generals running Japan had installed in the hearts of Japanese soldiers, blended with long standing traditions of nationalism, and of course adding a little xenophobia/racism for flavor resulted in incredible horrors visited upon the peoples the IJA conquered.

True to the first, and false (IMO) to the second; I keep getting irritated/outraged by the blatant MS plagiarism in Destiny.

You couldn't stand the Gouf Ignited and the Zaku Warrior? They weren't too bad design wise. Its not the first time an AU series literally rips an old MS design from UC though.

So you don't think only 5 hours Destiny is better than the full series? ;P

Mobile Suit Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny are effectively retellings of Mobile Suit Gundam and Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. Their point was to plagerize older MS series XD.

And like Zeta Gundam, Destiny had us following a whiny little baby for half the show while he whined and complained and gave us an unsatisfying ending

The difference was that Kamille became likable and the previous cast didn't push him out of the limelight. Also Tomino is a far better story teller than Fukuda and it shows because Fukuda makes a lot of characters useless like Lacus. XD

Imperial Japanese Army Bio-Weapons Research and Development Division, although unlike the Nazis their research actually had scientific basis (although they were just as cruel and inhumane), so much so that the scientists were granted amnesty by the Americans after WWII in exchange for their cooperation and the research data.

I don't mind tributary designs, heck, the Reborn Gundam from 00 resembles the Hi-Nu Gundam, but Destiny was just ridiculous.

In the case of the CC, I can understand because the CC is supposed to take place in the distant future of the UC. Char would be dancing with glee over the fact that most of the spacenoids had modified their space colonies into generation ships and had left for deep space, while the Earth-born elite had regressed back to a pre-industrial civilization.

Yeah, and Kamille eventually grew up, and the characters from the original series didn't really change their characterization. Cagalli was so damn different in Destiny I could have sworn that she was replaced by an imperfect clone during the time skip. Not to mention MASSIVE holes in the story; seriously, they fight to create a free world, but in the end, the Clynes and the Athas end up creating an oligarchy between them over the Earth Sphere. Talk about hypocrisy man; at least in UC the protagonists had to choose a lesser evil by supporting the corrupt but democratic Earth Federation over the fascist Principality of Zeon/Titans.

Not to mention that Athrun essentially went backwards as a character and then went through the same characterization as the original SEED. I completely agree with you on Destiny.

Going back to Reborns Gundam its fun to mention that that thing is the biggest troll because its one giant reference to the original MSG as is Ribbons Almark. Reborns Gundam was originally supposed to be 3 MS in one (this is all part of 00V iirc). Notice that it looks a lot like the RX-78 and the Guncannon. Can you guess what the 3rd MS was going to be? Yup the Gun Tank. Also Ribbons is voiced by the guy who did Amuro Ray in the Japanese version and it gets even funnier when you realize that Amuro Ray's Voice Actor is Setsuna in English.

O Gundam looks like the RX-78 because Ribbons is Amuro in the 00 universe because he was the original Gundam pilot. I loved all of those nods that 00 had to original UC.

Lol...I remember in the last episode of the second season where Ribbons spots the abandoned 0 Gundam, and says "This is fate!"

Finished Cowboy Bebop and Ninja Scroll reruns, now I'm on my second viewing of Basilisk and I'm beginning, for my first time, to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion.

My buddy who is an enormous Mega Man fan gave me his Casshern Sins anime. I saw the live-action film a long time ago and thought it was okay, apparently the animated series is better. I'll watch it after NGE.

I wish you best of luck with it. Personally, I love the series a whole lot, but it is either a love it or hate it for most people, considering the director, Hideaki Anno, essentially put his heart, soul and personality into it while having to go through his depression, and the later part of the show shows that with the much darker turn. Also the Main character is what ticks everyone off, but if anyone had to go what he had to go through, most everyone would go through the same exact thing almost....

Also, I got getting around to Utena and a few others. Utena is good, but not for the causal watcher at all....

Nah, you just watch the scene where Destroy Gundam blows up the city a couple of times.

Official Title - Beyond the Horizon
Alternative Titles - Kyoukai no Kanata, Kyokai no Kanata
Description - The dark fantasy follows a high school sophomore named Akihito Kanbara. Although the boy appears human, he is half youmu and invulnerable to wounds because he can heal quickly. One day, Akihito meets freshman Mirai Kuriyama when it seems she is about to jump from the school rooftop. Mirai is isolated because of her ability to manipulate blood, which is unique even among members of the spirit world. Disturbing events begin to unfold after Akihito saves Mirai.

I thought the first episode was pretty good. Nice animation quality, interesting characters, and some good style in the fighting so far.

I second the series. Looks interesting. Hopefully it holds up to the epicness of its opening.

Finally finished AoT.

As epic as I expected, although again the pacing is a little off. The ending seemed a little rushed. Given how they had drawn out the story prior to this it seems like they wrapped it up a little too quickly.

The first question you needed to ask was;

Is it an Anime?

If yes then the second question is; Is it based on an ongoing Manga?

If yes, then there's a 75% chance it'll have a crap ending

But that could have ruined his character. His whole deal is that he's a "normal" guy who's stuck in with a bunch of thugs.

Not saying it couldn't work, it definitely could, but it would change the mood of the show. its sort of a diary of a normal guy just trying to survive in the criminal underworld while at the same time not being corrupted by it.

Spoiler:
I have not seen the anime, but in the manga it gets to the point that so much as threatening Rock is a surefire way to get Revy to put bullets in you

Also found the opening:

This ranks up with my favorites, being a connoisseur of anime openings
