Depends on who you ask. Anyone who things Avatar wasn't influenced by Anime is fooling themselves, but some people consider Anime to be Japanese made animation.
Personally, I think Last Air Bender and Legend of Korra count because of their similarities but that's me.

Actually disagree, Anime is quite specifically Japanese, otherwise it'd all just be cartoons and we could just throw the word anime out of it entirely.
For me an authors opinion as to their own work is always relevant, especially if you're trying to figure out what a story was supposed to mean. I mean we don't ignore Victor Hugo when he says the Hunchback of Notre-Dame is a story critical of the church's ability to help the people who need their help the most. However the key part for death of the author as a concept is that the author is not the end of meaning. Any writer can probably tell you that people have found meaning in their work that they never intentionally put into it (it happened to pretty much everyone in my creative writing class). At times that meaning can completely overshadow what the writer intended (as it did in Evangelion) and whether that is a success or a failing will depend on the work imo. Evangelion is, in the respect of conveying Anno's meaning, a radical failure as a piece. Obviously though it succeeded massively as an interpreted artwork given the vast amount of literature dedicated to defining its meaning outside of Anno's intentions.
Stories can't just mean whatever random gak someone makes up, they're actually in the text. If you want to argue that a work means something you actually produce an argument to that effect using the piece itself. It simply means that a work will often have meaning beyond the author's intentions and the author's intentions are not the end of meaning i.e. the author is not a tyrant who can dictate what their work means to others.

i know its not anime, but manga...but did anyone read the latest Shingeki no Kyojin chapter? So much going on! I don't want to spoil it but it was great.

Hobby Goals and Resolution of 2017: Paint at least 95% of my collection (even if getting new items). Buy small items only at 70% complete.

I really liked SAO... First impressesions SAO was better than this new one as well. Also liked SAO better than .Hack, if for no other reason than it actually had an ending I got to watch, since I didn't play the games.
SAO episodes 1-14 were pretty good. 15 was okay. 25 was sweet and kind of exciting. 16-24 were boring. Except for the bit where Kirito went beast mode. That was kind of cool. The whole sub-plot with his not-sister was blarg in its entirety.

SAO is a bit like Eureka Seven. The romance sub-plot kept it afloat for at least the first 14 episodes. Unlike Eureka Seven though, one member of the romance sub-plot, Asuna, got reduced to standing around all day (right after the sub-plot became the main plot no less) and that silly sub-plot with Sugu started and the series spiraled into blandness. That and it did pull a deus ex in episode 14 which was just cheesy.
