Heh, must have been thinking of the Suzumiya second season.
Also, I have to ask, what is with Anime and School Clubs? I mean, Plastic Sister has a club, Suzumiya is about a club, Kill La Kill has a lot of clubs (they are more or less military detachments that answer to Satsuki), Higurashi has clubs... I mean, are clubs obligatory in Japanese School systems? I feel I'm missing a bit of cultural back ground here.
Yeah, Higurashi is pretty good. What I like the most about it is that all of the characters are pretty likable, so it's all the more horrifying when they go full psycho. Also, the fact it starts off as a typical moe slice of life flick, then turns that around and makes it disturbing. Very effective technique.

I'm not an expert of their school systen, but they are not obligatory, but yes, they are considered very important., "Serious Business" style as it's a kind of training for the adult world: loyalty, hard-work, responsabilities . According to some anime I saw, they even have a particular name for people who aren't in a club, they are people in the "Go-Home club".
(No idea if slacker-clubs really do exist like the one we see in D-Frag )
And yes, that's what happened to most people that watched Higurashi. I was already aware of how it was going to be, but it caught many by surprise. Hell, I knew how it was gonna be and the first time I saw her with a fething machette I went "Woooaa... gak just got serious."

I see, so they aren't like the clubs in western systems then; they are considered to be a big deal, albeit not one that must be participated in. Interesting.
I just ask because in none of the systems I've been in, there was never any pressure to join a club. In fact, I can't remember if my schools even had clubs.

No idea where that came from, tbh. It was thanks to the 2nd season that I started understanding WTF was going on. I guess it's because it isn't 100% mystery anymore but you must see it. ALL OF IT. And there's a certain background story that's brutal, but in the manga? I tried looking at it and after a certain scene I just went "NOPE, NOPE, NOPE, NOPE, feth IT, I'M OUT". Damn, Higurashi is awesome.
And speaking of awesome things... "No Game No Life" once again shows the MC has his priorities straight:
Spoiler:
An entire nation of beautiful animal eared women?! TIME TO CONQUER IT, BITCHES!
Yeah, I watched it I love how even after the ED, the show remains hilarious.
Chaika was pretty good too, it just keeps getting better. The foreshadowed twist finally appeared and the humor just keeps getting better
Spoiler:
So, now we have a kind and loli Chaika (White) and a Tsundere-like Oppai Chaika (Red). I wonder what the others are like and if they are gonna show up. I'm expecting more colors and different personalities

I believe (may be wrong, though) that part of the difference is that Japanese schools have a portion of their budget that gets split among the clubs for spending money- so if you were part of the Anime/Manga club, you'd be able to use School/Club funds to buy anime and manga- whereas if you're in a school Anime/Manga 'club' in the West (as I was in High School), any and all anime and manga you have must be brought in by someone in the club who owns it, and leaves when they leave. So a Club is more Officially Supported, and can have better facilities for whatever activity the members are participating in than the members could afford individually.
Also, I believe there's official Club Rooms that schools will designate/give to the clubs- spaces that can be just for Club activities- whereas in the West, you're basically hoping that one of the teachers will let you use their classroom after school, and you have to pack up everything afterwards.

Watched the first episode of Nobunagun. It is pretty hype. Not as full out nuts as KLK, but still pretty ott. I like the creature designs. Those outfits the protagonists wear...not so much.
I like how the protagonist's weapon of choice is a gun this time. Usually in anime (at least in anime set in Japan) it tends to be a sword. Also, Nobunaga is nuts. I like him

Yeah, pity the action doesn't seem to go nuts like in the first episode. The third and fourth episodes were a bit meh. It might get more metal later on, idk. Also, there's something about the animation and design that's beginning to bug me...there's something off about it. I'm not sure what it is, but it just feels...odd. I'm still liking Ogura though.

Things get a little better as it goes on, but yeah.
I think (and I don't know anything about the people who created it) but Nobunagun looks and feels almost like a "First effort" Anime- it's a relatively simple story, they started it with a big all-out action episode but then had to 'lower the budget' on the middle ones, there's good points and bad points...
It's a good, enjoyable anime, but it definitely feels a little bit more 'raw from the brain' than something from people who've got more experience.

Yeah, I can understand that.
I guess it would be a bit unfair to compare it's style to KLK then, since that was made by a fairly experienced crew, iirc.

What the heck was up with the dragon/dragoon chick in Chaika this week? In her premiere episode she was pretty chill, saved some strangers from monsters, and was quite reluctant to reveal she was a dragon. One episode later and she's leaping from rooftops and instantly changing into a dragon and getting really excited on the prospect that she might get to kill some random people. Seemed like an instant massive personality change.

Oi, spoiler this mate, people may not have seen it yet
Spoiler:
Yeah, it was ... odd. Very, very odd, since she didn't look like a bloodthirsty type. She wanted to fight a real challenge, that's for sure, but not random killing stuff. Still, the bitch-slap she gave him when she was in cat shape was awesome .

Spoiler:
She was probably acting reserved and doing just about EVERYTHING to preserve her mistress's reputation and honor. She was mourning, and had been since her cavalier died. Going out into the woods and killing some monsters, besides being enjoyable exercise, would only do honor to the cavalier's reputation. Now that she's "off her leash" so to speak by having been defeated, given real challenges and a sense of purpose no matter how small outside of being a cavalier's dragoon during the war, it's normal that she'd be a little excited, and without the cavalier to reign her in, it's not shocking she's not overly enthusiastic.
In other news I can't force myself through any more of Nobunaga the Fool. I wanted to like it, but I just can't. Someone let me know if he hooks up with Joan of Arc?
I beg of you sarge let me lead the charge when the battle lines are drawn
Lemme at least leave a good hoof beat they'll remember loud and long

Ok, turns out they didn't say Heinrich Himmler in Obunagun after all. They actually made a reference to Albert Heinrich, a character from Cyborg 009. That makes that scene so much less uncomfortable.
Seems I watched an incorrectly subbed version of the anime :/

A bunch of characters LOOSELY based on historical figures (ex Nobunaga, Monkey King, Joan of Arc, Caesar, King Arthur, DiVinchi, ect) living on two neighboring planets and fighting a war between them over necklaces that grant magic power in giant mechas. It actually sounds cool when I describe it like that, but they manage to really screw it up. Watch Nobunagun for a somewhat similar story idea but which doesn't take itself nearly as seriously and is this SIGNIFICANTLY better.
