Ok, as promised, I'm going to throw in a bunch of pics so beware

But first a little foreword on why the hell so long
The reason is pretty simple, at some point I just found myself out of ideas... I mean I had countless cool concepts in my head, but little on the side of practical ideas for all those small details that make a mini go live. Thus I turned to different media for inspiration and one I would like to mention in particular - the 2002 He-Man animated series. Those off you who somehow missed this marvel should take time and watch at least the opening arc.

To complete this "assassin" themed ork I used pieces from some of the most noted shadow stalkers: Chest plating from predator, hood and stance from Assassins Creed, pants from a generic ninja and the mask is obvious I think

Please comment on how this mix looks to your taste!

hmmm.... i am not really sold...and i will tell you why... as you obviously put a lot of thought and deed into that mini...

first... the hood/headsection...it reminds me a bit of Shredder from the trutles and then again from mortal kombat of one of these baddies... i dunno which one but they are blue, green and yellow...

then the wristounted sword... as such quite cool looking and the GS work looks really superb...just on the brim of the gauntlet it lacks a bit...this might or might not be later on solved due to the painting...
also the lil details all over the sword really help bring along this cool weapon...

what i don´t like and what keeps me from is the right arm... that fist clenched pose...that is somehow making the whole mini look akward... i dunno what the guy wants to show us... what is he doing.... just flexing his muscles? maybe you could alter the pose of said arm a bit... add a claw like shredder has? or something more woverine like? and tho the SM shoulderpad is as such good looking on orks... i would rather have a more symetrical look concerning the shoulder section...and i would then opt for the more archaic looking one on the left...even tho your orcs are more civilized...

i hope i wasn´t too brutal in my views now...

@ hood/mask - did tou like it? Or not? "coz I'm not really sure... The mask I took from Nolan's Bane, but ones you've said about Shredder... It was unintentional But I always loved him as a kid.

@ Sword arm - this is a mech arm and the sword isn't mounted. He just hold it backwards. I'm going to add some cables to the brim to make it less boring. Plus this sword will have a cable conection to the backpack.

@ Right arm & shoulders - SM shoulder is a must for this gang as this is their trademark and they have to kill a SM in 1 on 1 combat to get one to count as a full members of the gang. The Idea is that this shoulders be painted with different chapter symbols with alot of weathering.
I see that the arm moved while I was taking pictures. The fist is supposed to rest on his hip in a classic Superman pose. I thinking about this guy as a Deadpool style show off jerk, his pose is meant to be relaxed and intimidating, showing that he know he's good&cool and he want others to know that as well. At my table it doesn't seem akward so it might be my "mad photography skills" that make it look so :(

ah.... your more indepth ideas and thoughts sure help me understand the mini much better... you know fully explained to me the need for that shoulderpad... and i like the heavy weathered idea behind it... yes... that´s the way to go...

the hood i do like... and the bane referrence escaped me as i only saw screenshots yet... the film i have still to watch... once of these days but i understand your direction now much better...

and i´d be the least guy on this planet to say that a deadpool in classic ballsy pose like supes would be not worthy to be build... so that is understood now too

as for the sword arm... i saw it before as a wierd arm... now with your description perspective explains your ideas and dirction much better... yes... with additional cables and the mentioned backpack this will be a great addition...

don´t think i step away now fom my C&C... i just see it now more clearly how you inteded the mini and can see it a bit clearer how this one will be shaping up...


(one minior thing to your fluff... you know you are killing the supersoldier mythos with this one? and for clearing that one up early...i like that!!!)

This ork has my permission to die.. but I think the mask would work better on a Nob, compaired to an assasin, also im not a big fan of the sword arm

I don't think I'm going against general 40k fluff somewhere here. From my point of view 40k orks vs humans is much like humans vs predators in AvP-verse. Both alien species are generally superior to humans in physiology but non the less a skilful human has enough chances to take them down. A well known catachan hero Arnold i.e. Same goes to orks vs SM, an average ork boy has little chance to take on a space marine 1 on 1 but an aged, tempered nob? I think that's more than fair play. The way I see their fluff they only undergo such a test after years of gang wars experience in the underhive. While most of the gang roam space as mercenaries a small number stays at their home village to teach younger brothers the ways of da gang. And it is only when casualties force the gang to come back that the youngers are taken to undergo the trial. I think that's a fitting trait for someone grown in a close community to care for their own and not treat them as cannon fodder.

They all are nobs in both fluff and mini size and they share gaming stats so all the cosmetics are only to underline the personality and to buff overall variety. I'm not happy with the sword arm as well, but when i started it I could not make it from scratch. Not the best choice off parts and rather akward execution... But it will remain to remind me of my mistakes.

Here is some more stuff from my work table...

The WIP of the backpack power generator for my ork's. the idea was to make something in what I call junkpunk style. It's generally like steampunk but more messy and can incorporate any type of tech. Hope you'll enjoy...






And yes, that is the thing I've been riveting. One of them at least It still lacks the "smoke" pipe on the right and a hose from upper tank down to the convertor on the left.
I plan to cast the basic shape and then personalize them for each ork individually.
Any suggestions?

gotta agree mates that backpack is looking damn fine... my personal favorite is the lil grillsection... and the lil lever on the dial - looking thingy...

if you do the smokestack i would suggest doing it like an exhaust for a car... curved and rather going downhill than upwards... for steampunk definatly upwards facing... but your "junkpunk" a term by the way i instantly like, i think would do better with something looking like this:

Great sculpting work (as always), especially the hood and loincloth. Attention to detail, like the boots I love the subtle dynamics you get in your models (in this case, the slightly raised foot). And, for the record, I'm still a huge fan of the Storag Pattern Ork

That being said, this isn't my favorite work of yours. I've looked at him several times since you posted trying to figure out exactly what it is (or isn't) about him. The biggest thing is the arms: I know you've had problems with the sword arm, but I still don't like it, even at a concept level. The other arm is fine, but doesn't mesh well with the rest of the pose, imho. I think the right foot would have to be in front of the left for it to work right.

I hope that wasn't too brutal, but I think you can take it.

Great idea for the pipe! I'll think how to use it here and I even came up with a rule/fluff for it in mind =) like the side effect of this generators that produce lots of smoke that is stored in a tank and can be released at will to create a sort of smoke cloud for distraction or/and demoralisation. Kinda like ninja's smoke bombs...

It seems that I just can't leave his arms as it is... Probably I'll have to resculpt the right first to better fit the idea, and the left hand... Doh, I'm so tired of this one really... I think I just have to admit that it just not good enough for the rest of the mini so I just leave it till a have some ideas how to redo all the hand...

i never watched this for some reason... and when i was the "right" (?) age for the first run my mum was dead against the whole thing... but you never be able to shut away your kids from all influences^^ my friends back then had the figures and so on^^

I keep working on the Aztec SM chest piece and here are some pics of the progress. Not even near final so bear with possible roughness.







The idea was to add some suare ornament to the neckband and lower border plus make the armor look like a styled worn scaled leather by adding scales... Next things I plan to do are scales on the back, some kind of aztec ornament on the belt (not squares this time) and a belt plate with some ethnical symbol...

Any Ideas on your side? And thanks for staying with me.

I like the neckband, and I think its looking good so far, I cant waite to see him all done
