Subject: Totally Storag - Synapse Syndicate first gear pieces (26/09)
Big thx for lurking that out LDD! They look authentic and kinda simple... In a boring and a bit ugly way =/ I boldly think that I can do something much more interesting with the abovementioned GW material
And Vik... you really are lucky

The sculpting session went well and I hope to bring some more § parts here soon. The Pulse rifle + hands set is almost ready, made a really lovely base for pulse carabin conversion and a good progress with first legs. I'm not using any sawed off IG parts for it or anything - only sculpting, only hardcore....
BTW I'm a huge HALO verse fan and I would gladly abandon 40k if there were some HALO based system/models... but world is a harsh place so I"ll try to actualize some of my wild dreams with this Syndicate...

By conversion I mean the end result and before I do all the lovely details there are some steps to take. First of all I take an element I want to change and do some alterations to it's silhouette according to the concept I have in mind. This is my basic rule for convertions and it's based on Gestalt psychology basic rules - our brain firstly comprehend the geometrical patterns that form the shape of an object and only then the details. We all have some "tags" inside our personality based on previous experience that tell our brain what is what. Like when we see a flat board with some supports of an appropriate size our brain tell us that this object is labled a table. But when we start to see the details things can change. If our expectaitions based on first impression contrast with the second one we recive an interesting puzzled effect called cognitive dissonance. Our brain perceive such wrongness as a puzzle and automatically tries to solve it - the positive outcome brings joy, the negative - frustration. Pure phisiology... The trick is to make the puzzle solvable, to give the brain clues to tie things together - this is what a good conversion is all about.
Hope I didn't bore you with my ramblings Vik?

Well, I did not get board and actually makes sense, when I used to draw a little the first stage was to break whatever was the inspiration down to basic shapes, then adding details to produce the finalised piece.
I take the same approach when sculpting now a days, it makes it easier to get the general outline first.

@ LDD & Vik
Good to know that somebody actually read posts without pics
@ RW This is one thing you won't expect spartan to do
And I brought you some pics. This is one of the hands with pulse rifle from FW set. I plan to cast it and then use the details to convert other versions. Sculpting the shoulder on all of them would be to much a pain.
§ M004 FFG Shoulderguard mounted Force Field Generator
The regular shoulder pad was replaced by an experemental portable force field generator. This technology is in a field testing phase and offers only a fraction of supposed functionality. The protection factor is very limited and energy consumption is too high, but none the less this system proved sucsessful in evading non-direct damage.
§ M007 APSR Anti-personel Sniper Rifle
Based on tau pulse rifle design this rifle was modified to use common to imperial space lasgun batteries that proved durable, cheap and easy to aquire on mission. The most advanced targeting system was a logical addition to make most use of pulse rifle's great effective range and accuracy. The targeting system is linked to § M001 TH's HUD but features a scope for when helmet's systems are damaged or somehow unavailable.
BTW The new Dredd movie is a great Necromunda film

hmmmm!!! i like that!... the description of yours made me realize that you used the standard lasgun mag on that pulserifle... very clever!!! i was always thinking that when you want to move behind enemies lines that you have to use enemy weaponry as you won´t get your own kind of amo any more if you run out of it... so that mixery is a very strategic thing to do!!!
the more i see of that project the more i want to see what other stuff you come up with... by the way.. as this is a very mixed up army concept... will you incorporate other species too? like orks or ratlings or even ogryns? some totally teched up big grunts would look good together with tau and human sized soldiers of fortune...
and... you already watched that movie? online or what?
Oh Vik I don't dare to think about futher additions to this army as I have to many unfinished projects as it is In theory I want Synapse to act as a core like tau and compliment them with themed gangs of mercs like vespids/kruut. Thus I might make use of any munda gang I'll make and get a highly customisable army.
The Syndicate is not just a mere merc bunch and their agents are few and expencive, so it make sense for them to hire up different mercs to do their biddings and send agents to watch over the mission.
I've been to the cinema. The movie is quite decent and refreshing.

First of cant wait to see it (although I did enjoy the first one ) Now down to the work I WANT ONE I WANT ONE got that out of the way, please build these for me this concept is so dam cool LOL
Second love the idea of adapting an abundant powers source to be used with a highly technical weapon, like Vik said makes sense to have a power source that is readily available.
The sculpting is spot on as usual and the eye to detail is spot on, and the fluff to back it up which is a great touch.

well i have planned to watch it soon... atm i am watching prometheus... and also resident evil... two of the movies on my must see list^^
and well... don´t go too wild in mixing up munda gangs for this one... i can see van saar working for this scheme... but scavies or goliaths, heck anything else would look weird compared to the high tech stuff you do with your §´s... be careful...
I mean the munda rule set not the atual gangs from the list all my grots are a gang, my orks are also meant to make a gang for munda-scale gaming. Imagine a situation when a shadowy organisation hires a band of mercs to keep their hands clean or to use as living shield or distration - that is a Syndicate's way. Their own men role on the field is to provide coordination and surgical strikes.

Sorry I will break it down the dread film i cant wait to see (although I did enjoy the first adaptation).
I WANT ONE I WANT ONE = the Syndicate army you are building it is such a cool idea I wish it was mine, the sculpting and designs you are creating are going to look pretty dam cool and so unique.
I hope that makes more sense If my dad was still alive I would have gotten him to translate it to Russian for me.
