Those zombiecide minis look awesome when they are painted, and doubly so with the job you've done on them
I haven't used it myself, but there is a great tutorial on painting tattoos here:
http://www.bushido-thegame.com/articles/painting-tattoo
The main advice seems to be that when you highlight/shade, you mix the skin paint into the tattoo colour (e.g. if you highlight the skin with Elf Flesh and the tattoo's basecolour is Enchanted Blue, then the tattoo highlight would be a mix of elf flesh and enchanted blue), not the best example but you get my drift.

Thank you.

And now, the whole game is painted since my GF took care of Amy. It is her first time painting models. I'm really happy with what she did, and to be honest I'm quite impressed :
Right now, I'm working on something bigger. I mean, REALLY bigger. Pix to come when I have done enough to show.

That is impressive. I especially like how the shading of the legs make it look like she's wearing fine, black, nylons or some such. Did she paint a seam down the back of the legs too?

Your zombicide figures have inspired me to return to painting my own Very nice looking figures. Are you adding any kind fo matt varnish to protect them during play? Also, your GF's Amy figure looks very nice.

No, she didn't. I wouldn't have had the idea myself ! ^^
Nice idea though, I'll keep it in mind, just in case...

Good to read ! Have fun !
I always add matt varnish on my minis.
SilverMK2 wrote:Also, your GF's Amy figure looks very nice.
Thanks for her, she was happy to read this.
Okay, so now I'm painting something... way bigger. Friends of mine offered me the fortress of redemption. I love my friends.
I couldn't wait so I stopped everything I was painting and started building and painting it. Right now, only the angels statues are made :

I don't think I ever painted anything that big. Well, except my house's walls.
But Hobby-wise, this is obviously my biggest "model". It's very impressive when you start building it and realize how much place it will take on the gaming board.

I love mixing old models with newer ones in my army. It's quite fun to paint them !
My Fortress, still in WIP. The main colors are done, it takes longer than I would have believed. It's really big.
I think it starts to look good.

@ Casey's Law : nice avatar. ^^
Ok.
Today, I - really- needed to change my mind so I sat back in front of my desk, took my brushes and worked a bit on my fortress.
And I'm almost complete. I tried weathering powder and it worked out pretty well. I still have to paint a few details, but my fortress is almost finished.

Hi folks !
I've finished painting my Fortress of Redemption. I just have to paint the 4 heavy bolters, but it should not take too long. I've taken several pictures, showing the entire fortress but also some detail views. Hope you'll enjoy !
The fortress :
Zoom on the Utramarine markings :
The lascan bunker :
The other side :
The laser canon :
The entrance door :
The missiles battery :
The top of the tower :
On some of the images, we can see the Dark Angels symbol. I'll hide them later, but I haven't decided how yet.
Have a new years eve everybody ! Have fun !

Spectacular!! That is a masterpiece of a fortification if I've ever seen one. I love the muted blue tones it has, especially in contrast with the winged statuary.
How did you apply the brownish weathering to the outside of the fortress (near the base)? I just can't quite decide what I'm looking at.

Thanks Gits !
I'm really satisfied with the general tone of my fortress. The main color really matches what I wanted to get.
The weathering is a wash of weathering powders. I mixed Dark earth and orange rust from the Forgeworld range, and diluted them with water. I applied them like a wash, with no special care.
And when it had dried, I rubbed the areas with both wet and dry cotton swabs to remove the excess and smooth the transitions.
I had never used weathering powders before (except on one or maybe two bases) and it's quite easy and fun to do.

Thank you SilverMk2 ! @ Gits : I used the "wash" method because I wanted the pigment to remain mainly in the recesses. I thought it would be the most appropriate way to achieve this result. But I had never used powders for washes, nor for such big surfaces. After it dries, I had to smooth the transitions though, because on several spots I had a clear border with no transition. ^^ You should have a try. As you probably know, pigments are removable as long as you dont fix them. So if it doesn't look good you can erase and redo it all ( Ctrl-Z )

I wouldn't have tried this directly on my fortress without this property of the pigments. I'm crazy, but not enough to use such a big kit for crash tests.
I hope we'll see your trials in one of your topics soon, then.
Eldercaveman wrote:Any chance of some action shots of the fortress with your minis inside?
Yup !
I'll make shots during my next game and post them here.
Jormi_Boced wrote:Great work on Zombicide! It is a daunting task.
Thank you. It was a full time job, postponning any other painting project for a few weeks. But playing full painted games was definitely worth it.
I now have a brand new fortress, and also a bunker that I painted this summer. Some of my sceneries look old and dull beside these, so I have decided to upgrade some of them.
I had an old home made wrecked rhino, that you can see in this in-game picture :
I spend some time on it yesterday evening tu upgrade it to this 2.0 version :
Now I'll do the same with my crashed Aquila shuttle.
