He's not small. It's his bodyguards that are pretty big, they are ogre sized. See this image from last week's tournament, the Alghul is surrounded by humans models (Matriachy band from a friend). On the last tournament last week, I won the painting prize. As there is another tournament next week, I wanted to paint something new.
Fahim has 2 hyenas, so I decided to paint them. For the moment, I have all available Askari entries painted.

Recently I've watched Mad Max Fury Road, that I had never seen until then. It made me want to paint worn out cars, with rust and dust.
I had already painted one sooner this year, here's the second one. I also have two more that I converted today.









I love painting this kind of things. So much fun !

The next car I have to paint is a Porsche Spyder.
Well... a custom Porsche Spyder, with dozen of blades welded on it, and a frigging gatling on top.

The "trick" is to multiply the weathering technics. On this car I used stippling, masking fluid, blister foam, pigments, acrylic washes, enamel washes, streaking rust effects enamel and pigments.
Each of these technics are easy and give good results. When you start combining them, the result gets deep and rich. I LOVE painting this kind of stuff, beacause it has a random part, I never really know what I'm getting in the end.

Ah that feathers. I painted my band and went to the club to play them. And the friend I played with told me "yeah they look good but you should highlight those feathers a little more and they'll look even better". I hated him because the feathers had taken me sooooo much time. But I followed his advice, and guess what... he was right. It almost drove me crazy to re-highlight those, but the result has really improved so it was worth it.

I'm not sure he'll be really good on the battlefield (I generally don't get good dice rolls ) but he'll definitely look good.

After a second look at my robot, I added some black lining between armor plates.

I love the slightly greenish tint on the shiny bits.

Scorpion Green Gits. ^^
It's a color I have had on the paint rack for years and never used before. I tried it for the first time on my Cyriss models, because I wanted to use something different than Scaly Green (oh man I love this color) and Scorpion green works well for these kinds of effects.

However it doesn't cover at all, so applying a white coat previously is mandatory.

I use it a lot with my marines, but it's always going over a darker color, so the fact that it's translucent just makes for a more subtly blended highlight.

A small teaser :

I was experimenting with different mixes of varnishes, and I realized that your minis have the perfect finish that I've been looking for. I apologize if you've already answered this on a previous page, but what's your process? The best results that I've managed are from 2 coats of gloss, and a few more of thinned-down matte, but it looks like you have it mastered.

I also tried lots of different varnishes before I could find the one that I was looking for.
The answer is quite simple : I use Pebeo mat varnish spray, for acrylics. It's easy to use, I've never had problems with it. When applying it, it leaves at first a quite thick white-ish coat. It's a bit scary but don't touch anything, let it dry gently and it will be fine.
Now question is : is this brand available in the US ? I have no idea.


There is only one problem with this varnish : it reacts with soft plastic models and makes them sticky after a certain time. Don't use it on Zombicide models or so. Otherwise, it's perfect. I have plastic, metal and resin models that I sprayed like 6 years ago, and no problem with them.

I've never seen that varnish, but that doesn't mean much... they don't let me out very often.

Thanks for the info on the varnish. If I can't find that exact can, I still might be able to locate something similar.
Those cars are looking great as ever. Your eye for texture is incredible. An interesting technique that you might like is using tiny bits of putty to make weld marks between panels. It does look a little bit dramatic at this scale, but the added detail can really push the gritty aesthetic you're going for here.

I went for rivets this time, but I keep the idea of welding seams because it's really interesting !

As for the varnish, in France we can order it online on art craft webstores. Maybe you can find it on US websites, or even directly on Pebeo's online store ?

Those post-Apoc vehicles are 10/10 cool. Really awesome stuff.
