Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

Affton, MO. USA

Here I think I forgot to pick that book up with all the hardback nonsense. I remember calling and having the local Barnes and noble set one aside for new, but forgot to stop and get it.

Was it any good, can you give quick synopsis. Or is this the book where Sigmund gets the reprimand from dorn? In which case I read it and just forgetting the curse bit.

Sword of Truth turned up today, finally. It's really well produced, well acted, good variation of cast etc.

But the plot, it really is the most obvious plot ever, even worse than perfection. By the time the characters are all introduced, you know how its going to end.

It did help that the 'twist' was the same as "Perfection" and to a lesser extent, Bloodquest.

From yesterday's blog, more on the Black Dragons..

The Black Dragons date from the so-called ‘Cursed Founding’ of Space Marines and this has left its mark on these loyal sons of the Emperor. Literally. Twisted horns and vicious bone spikes protrude from their bodies, but these Space Marines have learned to adapt what others may consider heretical mutations into tools for dispensing Imperial justice.

David Annandale’s new Space Marine Battles novel, The Death of Antagonis, highlights the duality of this Chapter. Even as they struggle valiantly to rid a world of an insidious Chaos taint, wading knee-deep in the bodies of fallen cultists and plague victims, they are constantly under the suspicious gaze of the Inquisition and the Adepta Sororitas, desperate to prove that some taint exists among the Chapter.

As with all Space Marine Battles novels, The Death of Antagonis contains a full colour map section and some evocative art pieces. In this particular case, Rhys Pugh has done some fantastic work portraying these fearsome warriors. You can see why there might be some doubt about their loyalty, mind you.
The tattoos and scars on their arms hint at the less than salubrious backgrounds these warriors may have had before their indoctrination into the Adeptus Astartes. The terrifying mutations that their enhancement has wracked on their bodies have become almost a badge of honour for these Space Marines, and they now modify their armour to allow them to use these retractable blades in combat.

Quite looking forwards to this.

... Probably going to lock this thread...oohhh... week's end or so, start up a new one.

... so.. did anyone take the plunge with regards to the Mephiston book then ? was tempted when payday ( finally!) arrived but..well... £35 for a one off by a unknown ( for me anyway) author... I passed.

Speaking of Yarrick. After getting my copy of Chains of Golgotha, I went online and purchased the ebook Survivor and the eshort Evil Eye.

I was really pleased with Survivor (highly recommended) but after opening up Evil Eye and realizing that I just paid $1.25 for a 6 page story...I was mad as hell.

$1.25 is not a lot of money but seriously?!? Only 6 pages and you are going to sell that?

FROM SIX FRICKEN PAGES PEOPLE?????!!!!!

Welll ... it would have to be extremely focused. There wasn't enough space to do character build up or even have a proper "story arc".

About the Mephiston book... the price was more than a bit outrageous so purchasing never even crossed my mind.

Anyone else hoping the Mephiston thing tanked hard so BL might get the hint that people want novels, not limited hardback novellas?

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Funny, I was actually hoping for the same.

Likewise, but I fear it would take many more 'tankings' before reality kicked in. Just look at the amount of wretched e-books they're putting out at the moment - I don't think they're in the slightest bit interested in printing proper sized novels at the moment, espicially paperbacks (and not those stupid trade sized ones either).

Another Path of Victory book ...

http://www.blacklibrary.com/exclusive-products/shadows-over-sylvania.html
In Shadows over Sylvania you take on the role of a Vampire thrall of one of the bloodthirsty rulers of the accursed county of Sylvania. Your adventure takes place in the years following Count Vlad von Carstein’s failed attempt to become the first vampire Emperor. There are no Colleges of Magic, Konrad von Carstein is yet to seize control of the realm, and the legendary battles of Grim Moor and Hel Fenn are still in the future.
Looks good. I have all the others but have only gotten through half of Hive of the Dead. It's okay. Thing is, there seem to be too many "dead end" choices in HotD.

all the novels on the advance order page of GW's site went up for sale on iBooks today...

at midnight i got two...
The Death of Antagonis: $7.99 versus $12.99 in print...
Van Horstmann: $7.99 versus $14.00 in print...
very nice savings...

Chains of Golgatha has gone digital, but no Mephiston book...

Angel Exterminatus was $15.99 last month, and has now dropped to $7.99...
strange...
now i'll wait a month and see if the price drops on Betrayer as well...
strange pricing issues, but i'm happy to save some dough...

a short story from The Mark of Calth anthology went up a couple days ago, months before we will see the book...
it's the Anthony Reynolds story, called Dark Heart...

lastly, the short lived books that came out with each big box game are now digital, such as Space Hulk, Dread Fleet, and Dark Vengeance...

cheers

In further Anthony Reynolds news he has a competition on his blog

http://anthonyreynolds.wordpress.com/2013/02/11/wanna-win-a-signed-copy-of-chosen-of-khorne/

" So, here’s the deal. To score yourself this copy, I want you to tell me who, in a Black Library story/novel/audio/whatever, you would most like to see Khârn fight, why, and who you reckon would be the victor. 30k, 40k – whatever. Bring on the smack-down!

I’ll leave this comp open for a week, so will pick my favourite response next Monday evening, Sydney time. Make sure to leave your details so I can get in touch and find out where to send the signed audio if I choose your entry as the coolest/funniest/most generally rad. "

Also, Antlers are still dumb...

Black Dragons have always been cool to me, being a Salamanders successor chapter...
the new art is not to my taste...
the Index Astartes stuff was cooler...

the book, however, was a great read...
much more dragon-like in description than the art implies...
good action, nice plot twists, and very Grimdark...
a refreshing new author...
he's got me thinking about checking out the Yarrick book now...

That's the suspicion

but then again maybe the 'pure' geneseed they manange to tithe is from the slamanders (but never actually used in the chapters marines)

and their real gene seed is from somewhere else (let you imagination free!)
