A RETURN TO RYNN'S WORLD

With Black Library Live 2013 looming ever closer, we thought we’d reveal one of the exciting new products that will be exclusively available at this and other Black Library events this year. Traitor’s Gorge is a Space Marine Battles story by Mike Lee, and is the first in a new range of event-exclusive novellas that will only be available at Black Library sales stands. The book is a hardback novella, complete with hardcover in the colours of the Crimson Fists Chapter, a dustjacket featuring cover artwork by Clint Langley, and a colour section containing everything you’d expect from a Space Marine Battles title, including a campaign map and beautiful character portraits by Sam Lamont. Not only that, but each copy is numbered and we’re only printing 1,000. And with the story being exclusive to this format for at least a year, this is a seriously collectable artefact.

Packed with action, Traitor’s Gorge sheds new light on a piece of lore from Codex: Space Marines. Here’s what it’s about:

It has been half a year since the Crimson Fists were laid low by the invasion of their home world and the loss of their fortress-monastery. In that time, Chapter Master Pedro Kantor has led his battle-brothers in the fight to reclaim their planet from the greenskin menace that plagues them still.

On a mission to wipe a pocket of aliens in the Jaden Mountains, Kantor and his small band of warriors find that the orks have gathered around an influential leader and are greater in number than the beleaguered Space Marines could ever have imagined. Vastly outnumbered and surrounded by the foe, the Crimson Fists prepare to sell their lives dearly in the name of their world, their primarch and their Chapter.

Well, you've got to give them credit for the originality of the plot; pretty sure the Crimson Fists have never been in that kinda situation before.


Also, 10 bucks says their mysterious saviours are the Soul Drinkers.

Actually I think that story is just expanding on.. I think it was one in the latest marine codex.

Pedro and co. are clearing out the orks after the Rynn's World incident when some eldar show up to help. Then get all eldar-y and turn on them because at some point in the future a Crimson Fist steps on a blade of grass, which upsets a bug, which bites a dog, who chases a cat, who upsets their owner, who kicks that particular farseer's puppy.

The mass-market paperback will be released 6 months after the trade paperback, which means 'Angel Exterminatus' will be out in June this year.

I'm still trying to figure out if the audiobook for exterminatus will ever drop down to £20, instead of £22.

Even amongst the eldar, the Harlequins are a capricious, mysterious breed. Want a signed hardback of Space Wolves: Blood of Asaheim? Want to get it before (almost) anyone else? If so, here’s what you need to do: come up with the name of an original 40K character and tweet it to my address, plus a mini-bio for it. Add the hashtag #BoAComp so I can find it.
You’ll have to be concise – that leaves you only around 120 characters to play with. It’s worth making it good, though, as I’m currently planning the second book in the series and thinking about what’s going in it. If I like your idea enough, I’ll add the winning character as a brief cameo, thus immortalising your creation in print. Here’s an example (that is neither original nor very good) to give you the idea:

@wraightc #BoAComp Ragnar Blackmane: youngest ever Wolf Lord, heir to Berek Thunderfist; rash, brash and impetuous; called the Young King.

If that sounds good to you, start thinking, and then start tweeting. I’ll keep the competition open until just before BL Live – midnight GMT on Thursday 28 Feb – and any tweets received before then will be considered. You can send as many in as you like, but bear in mind that if you spam me with dozens then you’re unlikely to win – try to limit entries to two or three ideas at most. I’ll contact the winner the following week, and I’ll publish the results, and the best runners-up, here.

You can suggest names from any part of the 40K mythos, but it’s worth pointing out that the factions represented in Book II are likely to be Space Wolves (naturally), various bits of the Ecclesiarchy including Battle Sisters, and Imperial civilians, governors, etc. There’s also a fair chance that servants of the Dark Gods will turn up, who may suffer from a fair degree of plague, pox, rheumatism, etc. If the winning character name isn’t from one of these factions but is amazing enough, then it’ll have achieved the mighty feat of actually influencing the plot.
