You know what they say, better late than never...

mawloc is looking good... i don´t think the pins for getting the stones into position is much of a problem... if in doubt you could always sculpt some tiny stones around the pins to obscure them even further...IF!

Well as I said to RW, I'm probably being overly picky tbh...

what i am not totally sold of is the pose of the head... for maximum threatening look i imagine it would look down rather then up... but that depends on the moment of time this model features... if it is just "bulleting" through the surface then the head probably would be facing up rather then down... so well...^^

The post is, "I've just burst through the ground, hear me rawr" aka "boo"

my second ? is for the shape of the debris... is it more softer silt and earth or is it supposed to look like solid rock? if the later it could have been a bit rougher looking... if the former... well done... all will depend on your paintjob then i think

it's 50/50 lols... anything that has a flat area will have about 3mm of it painted to be concrete, then the subsoil will be just that, soil.

i bet that took ages to sculp mister... the best feature by the way...the stony surface you did on these debris pieces... that will be the major seller for that model!!!

Well I can't take all the credit I'm afraid. I used to a model railway mould for small rocks. but, as I didnt want repetition of them all, I took to moulding sub sections of the mould and began sticking two halves together and creating "new" peices.

but, thank you for he words of praise, its always appreciated

lone dirty dog wrote:Well, I have to say it looks pretty dam fantastic and the dynamic pose is bloody awesome so much so I wish I had thought of it.

Well I always loved the artwork I linked above, so it seemed natural for me to try and do it as a model. Plus you know me... never leave a model unconverted

Now as to the picky points, the pins are not that visible really unless looking for them, however as Vik mentioned you could sculpt some smaller rocks or even add some PVA and use small grit to disguise them further.

Well firstly once painted, the little rods will be black, secondly, I think If I added grit or small rocks it would draw attention unnecessarily to those areas... I guess time will tell when it comes to painting it.

Maybe add some small grit to some of the bigger ripped ground sections as well, how are you going to design the other Mawlocs will they be displayed in similar fashion ?

Well I only plan on one more Mawloc, unless I get rid of the Trygon-Prime out of the list and have Mawloc-spam.... but to answer your question, I plan on the second one to be hurtling through the air, beginning its impact into the ground to burrow again. and If I keep the Prime, I will be extending its tail considerably to make it more serpent like to make it different to the Mawloc's

Great work mate and glad to see you are feeling better.

Thanks for the kind words. Well I'm feeling a little better... Got my ECG today lols, so time will tell

I think I need to go to spec savers I missed that, will you be using the out stretched tail on the second for the support to the base then ?

When you said it will be flying through the air I kind of figured it will be in an almost curled up position, if you see what I mean as to get more impact to the ground.

Also I praised you on the rock shapes but you used a mould …….. CRAFTY however I have to ask who ate they made by and where can I get them

Also a while ago you gave me a link to some resin supplier that had resin like FW, I don't suppose you still have it I lost it

Well good luck with the ECG mate and hope you get better soon

No it'll actually be the head... when possible I try and do "pairs" in opposite poses. So where the first is bursting from the ground, the other is plowing head first into it.

When you said it will be flying through the air I kind of figured it will be in an almost curled up position, if you see what I mean as to get more impact to the ground.

I see where your coming from, but the logic of something like this is more snake like. It's already used the power it needs to launch itself into the air, so now it is aiming itself as well as creating aerodynamics to better manage its speed for impact.

Also I praised you on the rock shapes but you used a mould …….. CRAFTY however I have to ask who ate they made by and where can I get them

lols, I honestly don't know the maker. BUT. you can get them from Hobbycraft and Model Zone. look for the scenery sections in the model railways.

Also a while ago you gave me a link to some resin supplier that had resin like FW, I don't suppose you still have it I lost it

It was probably Alec Tiranti iirc. If you google the name and do a sub search on his site you'll find it easily enough. they have different types of Resin on there, just search for what type you need. but they do do a booklet for sale which gives advice and a guide on resin and silicone use. Its worth checking out and getting even just to keep on a shelf.

if you want a general resin, just search for GP (General Purpose) resin.

Well good luck with the ECG mate and hope you get better soon

Thanks dude, had it now, just need to see the doc monday for results

Thats very true... the mould cost me £10 some time ago, and I've never had need for it until now. I tend to buy things that I might find useful at some point, even if that means I don't need it right now... tis a bit of a throwback from my uni days lols.

Lols yup, thats half the idea... but, I am planning doing some "Burrow" Markers for thematic narrative during games. I want to have markers for when they elect to burrow, so I can replace the model with the marker. I was also possibly considering having some 5" blast marker damage scenery things, for once its popped up, kind of like an evolving narative for the game. I have always liked the idea of putting difficult terrain markers down each time a blast marker was used.

No smaller ones or some dust lol.

Also, started taking pics of the swarm last night.
Found out ive got 195 termigants, 90 gargs, 120 horms and 150 stealers with 12 broodlords.
Troop choices, im now fine for a while

There are smaller rocks there. I did the legwork on this and researched blasts/explosions, the size of the debris is proportional to the cause of the blast. Large creature = Large Rocks.

Also. doing dust debris is nigh on impossible to do on a model. I have yet to find or see a way of doing it that is realistic and doesn't look utter GAK.

btw, anything positive to say about it?

Lols I'm always a billion steps ahead of myself... currently my head is planning my FW cathedral that I want to make... the second mawloc is being thought about as well as the Trygon and Shrikes...

I honestly think cotton wool looks absolute GAK... except when used as smoke, when done properly and time is taken with it. But the major downside with it is, it crumples, it gathers dust, you can't clean it at all in any way... there's just too many negatives to it to zero positives.
