The "Volus Bombing Fleet" is nothing new.
It's existed since Mass Effect 1.
So no matter how it's spun, the Volus were a completely inappropriate choice for Retaliation.
Plus they're Ultra Rare and ruining my freaking Typhoon chances.
Wait, they are actually Ultra Rare? I think that might just kill this game for me. I've said as much on the BSN forums. It's difficult enough to grind out credits to get Ultra Rare weapons you actually want. Putting in a class option that I have no interest in makes it even worse.

I have the Volus Adept/Engineer both with two customization options.

I agree somewhat about the volus. I would have preferred them staying with the engineer only and *maybe* the adept as a homage to the long running biotic god joke but the two additional biotic volus classes are an insult to the salarians (a council race with a previous ME companion!) and the drell (previous companion) whom they will outnumber. Devoting 4 slots in the probable last DLC is ridiculous when 0-2 would have sufficed and satifised all but the most ardent ME minor race fans. As for them being ultra rare, they supposedly don't take up "weapon slots". If you would have gotten a class in that rare slot, you have some % chance of upgrading that "rare class" to an UR just like with weapons. I can't give you a quote but a dev posted that in the first day or so after the DLC was released.

All you guys moaning about not getting your ultra rares, while I'm still grasping for rares.
I seriously think ME3s unlock system is bullgak, there should be the crate system, but also guns/characters for sale, at the same price as their respective crate, so you can forgo the extras to get something you really want.

I think this Volus must already have some super-Volus suit. They're definately faster than any Volus I've seen. Anyways I like them but I guess if they're ultra-rare I'll never get to play one. You can't get ultra-rares from the 20,000 credit pack I assume?

You never, ever, ever see a Volus move in a combat situation before.
You just see them move around in the Citadel/Omega/safe zones.
But yeah. You can't really get them from Veteran Packs, but once you max out the Uncommons KC, you'll want to move up to the next step anyways (which for you would actually be the 99k packs to unlock the most Rares as quickly as possible) and they have a higher than normal chance for URs.

Kanluwen wrote:I cannot get classes, at all, anymore aside from the commons. So they're taking weapon slots. No, they're not as you're still technically "getting" classes even if you don't see them. If you can't get regular rare classes because you have them all unlocked at max customization, the class is replaced with a level IV ammo instead. It doesn't default to a weapon or gear or any other card for that rare slot if the randomized pack has determined you "got" a character card. If you roll the virtual dice and end up with an ultra rare card that isn't maxed instead of a regular rare, you get that instead of the level IV ammo that would have normally dropped. That's how their random store system works.

Actually that's exactly how it works.
Priority goes to Weapons/Characters.
Once those are maxed out they are taken out of the "pool", and the list of random items goes to "supplemental" items such as Weapon customizing items (barrels, scopes, etc) and both permanent and consumable Gear mods.
Ultra Rares, as you mentioned, are "rolled for" but what you're failing to recognize is that they recently applied the same "Weapons/Characters" formula now to the Ultra Rares pool.
Which means that you are going to be consistently receiving "upgrades" rather than actual new items.
I.E.:
I bought 4 Premium Spectre Packs today after doing Golds for a bit.
From those 4 PSPs, I received the following items:
Medi-Gel Transmitter II and III (same pack) with a Volus Adept character customization option.
Survivor Loadout III and Responder Loadout III with the Uncommon being Adaptive War Amp V.
Assault Loadout IV, Sniper Rifle Thermal Scope III, and an UR in the form of a Volus Engineer customization option.
Shotgun High Velocity Barrel III and Assault Rifle High Velocity Barrel IV from my last pack.
Now, why does that matter?
Because ever since the introduction of the Volus(last Tuesday) and I received them in packs(Engineer and Adept both in the same package) ...they are the only Ultra Rares I have received.
So yeah. I'd say it's pretty conclusive that they are in fact "replacing weapons", because I am not the only person that this is happening to.

So... your personal anecdotal "evidence" of maybe a couple dozen packs covers the entire possibility of the millions of randomized game packs? Please... you're smarter than that. Just for the record, I've had my rares (gears, characters, and weapons) maxed since before the DLC and have gotten almost a dozen UR weapons since it dropped disproving your theory. Either way, you don't seem to be listening to the reasons I've given because they contradict your personal view of the magic behind the RNG curtain so I'll just post this link to a Bioware devs saying the same thing I've been saying to you:
http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/343/index/14424612/3#14425416
How's that for "pretty conclusive"?

No, the post from the developer who does indeed have knowledge of the mechanics disputes your incredibly tiny anecdotal experience slice of the RNG store pie that you're stubbornly sticking to. My own experience agrees with his post as do the other friends I've played with that have gotten both UR weapons and characters during games we play. Frankly, I don't think anything will convince you except actually getting an UR yourself much like old Doubting Thomas story.

Except the whole point I'm making is what contradicts Bryan Johnson's statement.
Since I received my Volus, I have not received a single Ultra Rare weapon.
Prior to receiving said Volus(Saturday I received the Engineer and Adept both) and their "fix" on Thursday of removing repeat Retaliation characters past maxing their customization options, I received a Talon IV, Javelin IV, Scorpion V, Black Widow III, and Wraith VII.
I am not alone in this. The group of individuals that I play with regularly have all had the same experience, in that upon receiving a Volus their UR rate has significantly dropped and the few URs they have received were customization options for said Volus.
We're not playing "one or two matches" here either. The person who I regularly played with all this weekend, we saved up and bought slews of Spectres/Premium Spectre Packs each day from Thursday onwards.
Between my three titles/banners earned this weekend (Survivor, Death Guard, and the absurdly easy to obtain Mathemagician) we raked in some 15 Spectre Packs and 8 PSPs.
The individuals that I played with on Friday evening alongside of a developer as well all reported the same issue to said developer. The reply was "We're looking into it, but it shouldn't be happening".

Technical Question
THIS is my inventory.
Should I keep Retalliation uninstalled until I get some more stuff, or just download it?
Ho would that effect my chances of getting stuff?

I'm not sure how multiplayer matching works exactly but I suspect from my own experience (with patches and balance updates not allowing players to join matches) that you'll only be matched with people in games with the exact DLC loadout you have. If that is the case, you may have trouble finding a match since the community is smaller now than before and you're limiting even more severely by not downloading the DLCs. One piece of advice I've seen floating around is that, if you desperately want items from one particular DLC, then save up your credits and delete all the other DLCs before you go on your spending spree. That way you still can play with everyone but you only get unlocks from the base game and that one DLC. The downside to this is that you spend time deleting and redownloading those DLCs.
In your case, I'd probably still recommend getting the DLC as it really does improve the overall feel of the game. If anything, I'd personally stick to almost exclusively buying veteran packs until you max out at least one uncommon weapon that you like in each category. It may not be as glamorous as getting a rare every purchase but having a Mattock X is still better than a rare rifle at level I both in terms of efficiency as well as looking good on your character when joining lobbies. Once you get some of them up to X, then switch to regular spectre packs for rares and the occasional ultrarare.

Welcome back! The new DLC is definitely the shakeup the game needed (although some new objectives would be nice as well some point down the line). Just don't be surprised if the game is harder than you remember. If you haven't played for a while, it may take a bit of time to get back up to speed in addition to the actual increased difficulty the game has now since the DLC. I'd probably recommend trying out the collectors first despite them being the hardest opponent out there currently.

Bought the "Groundside Resistance Pack" to try out the two new guns and have the MP guns in SP.
Insanity is a joke with Garrus and Vegas toting Typhoons.
The new "Venom" Salarian Shotgun is absurdly awesome. It fires rapid, low damage grenades if you just fan the trigger.
If you hold the trigger down and charge it up? It releases the same single sized shell...which upon impacting a target or a wall, bursts into five more of those little grenades. It was hilarious to use against Guardians/Cerberus on the other side of hallways/corridors from cover on the N7 mission in SP which was the basis for Firebase Giant.
The new "Executioner" pistol is a Blood Pack design...and makes the Carnifex look like a peashooter.
